I'm skilling my alt towards a Chimera. Because I fly mostly Caldari and the Chimera just looks so great.
My problem was: I'm the only shield tank in my corp. Majority is Amarr, some Gallente. Until now I've had doubts if a shield carrier is really useful in my corp.
Btw: we want to do WHling, class 3 and 4.
After debating with one of my corp mates we found a shield carrier is the better carrier even for armor tanks - in our situation.
Armor tanks would fit a shield buffer (hardeners most important, DCII in low slot, LSE, Field extender maybe) with good resistances to get best benefit from the Chimera. A Megathron fitted that way and supported by a Chimera gets >3000 omni defence. It takes ~10 seconds to rep one BS completely.
Result: Free low slots! -> For much more damage and range and tracking. If necessary also some cap or speed mods.
It's a win-win-situation, isn't it?
If not - please tell. I'll finish my carrier skill in january. I could still switch to an Archon :P

sort of offtopic: If I recall correctly, when you enter a capital ship into a wormhole plex, you get +2 deadly BSses added to the spawn...that hurts.. Im not sure you want to plex with a carrier...

I can't confirm this by experience but aside from the mass problems of fitting a carrier through a wormhole (and through a class 3 or 4 at that), I heard a rumor that if you bring a capital ship into a site, the sleepers upgrade their combat ability significantly - by which i mean, they drop like 10+ battleships on your sorry ass.
As for your idea, I've seen sleepers get out to ranges in excess of 100km and stay there for a while, so the BS may want to leave midslots open for sensor boosters and tracking computers (although I suppose their lowslot alternatives of signal amps and tracking enhancers would be sufficient as well).

I think u might find that its 6 elite BS for the first carrier and then another 8 for a second. no more spawn for a 3rd or 4th carrier unfortunately. Make sure u clear the 6 before warping in the 2nd coz an extra 14 all at once wud hurt alot

@Range: should be no problem. Here some stats of said Mega:
- 3x Mag Stab - 2x Tracking enhancer II - 1x Signal Amplifier - 2x Tracking Computer -> 117km lock range - 2x CDFE, 1x Hybrid Collision - 1x Invul, 1x EM hardener -> 46k EHP - Defence (boosted by Chimera with one capital shield rep): ~3000 omni
Damage: - 7x 425 Rails II with Antimatter I: 700DPS @51+30km, 0.024 Tracking - 7x 425 Rails II with Lead I: 530DPS @102+30km, 0.024 Tracking
I didn't check it yet but I guess a beam Geddon or an Apoc would work similar.

Also remember that sleepers hate
1:ECM 2:Logistics 3:Drones 4:high DPS
...in that order. So you're gonna get off 1, maybe 2 cycles before 6+ very angry BS's will start showing extreme dislike towards you and your carrier. And yes, that can make you sweat.
We would have 2 scorpions hanging near our thanny in WHs just to help keep the aggro off him ~_~;;

46k ehp is also not much. Unless you intend to permarep every bs you have (which isn't many in triage, possibly just one with Chimera iirc), that ship will pop from a moments inattention. The guardian bs's that your carrier spawns, will by themselves finish a 46k ehp ship in a matter of seconds.
Now, I dunno about C4's, but 3k tank isn't enough for your proposed method in more difficult C5/C6.

The 6 bs spawn isn't going to instagib your carrier or anything, but considering the added time it takes to kill them, the rather low dps a carrier adds over a decently fit rrbs, and the difficulty of getting a carrier in a wh in the first place they're not really worth using.

Edited by: Gamoth on 24/10/2009 21:50:11 I donĘt think itĘs possible to get a capital ship into a class 3 or 4. But if itĘs anything like a class 5 or 6 it spawns an extra 6 Advanced Battleships , which are worth 120m before salvage which imho makes it worth bringing a capital if you can.
With a relatively poor chimera tank (think 4.5kish sustained) I found sleeper dps from the 6 ant-capital ship spawn easily tankable, just donĘt expect do ANY dps to them with fighters. Your battleship flying friends however might not last long under 4-5k dps, which comes in volleys of six 2000+ damage (after resists) sleeper missiles.
Oh and if your gang armor tanks, let them there is no law stopping you from putting an capital armor rep on a chimera it is kind of hard to accidently drift 15km while webbed 5+ times.

Confirming that an old corp I was in lost a chimera in a class 6 WH and the sleepers DID NOT change targets until the carrier was dead, plus they scram and web you from 40km+...the bs that is.....

you know, i have been in 100 man rr bs gangs that have failed to crack a single chimera because there were like 20 armor carriers giving it armor
you could armor tank the chimera and it wouldn't be as horribad as you would think, just focus on resists and ignore local repair because local repair doesn't do anything anyways
