Hey.
I've not played for about two years. Last time I was on the following was quite good for ratting, and I want to know if anything's changed. I used to use this setup to crush rats, and it worked quite well...
Am I in the wrong era? Fighting a blitz with trench warfare tactics?
Lows: 2x Medium Armour Repairer IIs 1x Kinetic Hardener II 1x Thermal Hardener II 1x EANM II 2x Cap Power Relay II
Mids: 2x Cap Recharger II 1x 10MN Afterburner II
Highs: 6x Pulse Laser II w/ Conflag 1x Medium Nos II
EFT says this gives me 427 DPS, cap stable at 33% and 353 DPS permatank with the lowest resist being EM at 71.5 and Kin, Therm and Expl at 82.6% or higher.
Anything I would need to change? Ta.

Put in 2 CCC rigs and replace the 2 cap relays for HS's (and perhaps the EANM as well).
For ratting you really don't need a fully cap stable tank unless you are prone to disconnects. --- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs |

I just recently hopped into an Absoloution and this is the fit i use.
6 Heavy Pulse Laser I - Soon to be T2 (2 Days)
2 Cap Recharger II 10MN AfterBurner II
1 Medium Armor Repairer II 2 Sansha Specific Hardners ( 1 of each ) 1 EANM II 3 HeatSink II
5 Hobgoblin II
Add to this 2 CCC's and you wont be cap stable - have like 9 min of cap life but thats all it takes to kill the rats, i dont even turn the repper on in some spawns and then activate it when flying to the next belt to regain the armor.
Works beautifully - and im sure it will work alot better with T2 Pulses.

You don't really need much tank for ratting, you want damage and range to make it faster.
This means I'd drop the 2nd armor rep and a CPR or two for heat sinks, while also swapping from conflag to scorch. In general t2 short range ammo is pretty much crap, you're better off using faction short range ammo instead.
Finally, you'll probably get basically as much value out of a harbinger for a fraction of the price. There's not really any point in using expensive ships to rat in most of the time.

Thanks for the feedback :)
EFT says:
1x CPR II, 1x HS II = 506 DPS up from 427 DPS; 2x HS II, 2x CCC I = 589 DPS up from 506 DPS.
Both are cap stable at 43% and 49% respectively if I cycle the second MAR II.
Changing from Conflagration to Scorch with the latter configuration it goes from 589 DPS to 481 DPS but the range is then 23km with 4.8km falloff, rather than 7.5km with 4.8km falloff.
Removing the second MAR II, leaving the two HS IIs I get a 177DPS tank with the cap stable at 54%; adding another HS II takes the DPS with scorch up to 530 from 481.
Is that looking better? Also, does NOS still work on NPCs?
All of the ratting / missions I'll be doing is in 0.0, since my sec status is -9.something, and because it's been so long since I've played I've forgotten how insane (or sedate) lowsec rats can be.
I would fly a Harbinger (I have two or three fitted with T2 stuff from last I played) but I think they are fugly, and since money isn't an issue I'd prefer to fly an Absolution (since they look good).
On the topic of fitouts and ratting ships - I can fly a Sleipnir and with 4d 15h training fit it out completely with T2 (just need Tactical Shield Manipulation IV for T2 hards). These any good for ratting or are they still just a mean PvP spec ship?
Cheers for the help :)

I use this for lvl4 missions, so I imagine it will be fine for ratting.
low 1 MAR II 2 active hardeners of your choice II 1 EANM II 2 Heatsink II 1 CPR II
mid 1 10MN Afterburner II 1 web 1 Cap recharger II
high 6 heavy beam laser II 1 heavy missile bay of some sort
rigs 1 aux nano pump 1 CCC
+ 5 t2 light drones
would be better with t2 rigs, but it does the job

Why would you rat in an abso? You literally do more dps using a harb, not to mention a geddon or abbadon. Please don't say you're actually worried about tanking rats, I rat in a shield harb and tank 3 bs spawns fine with just the passive regen.

Aesthetics, my dear ;)
Yao: Thanks for the config. I've found a setup that will give me 653 DPS (using Conflag) and a decent Permatank.
Lows: 3x HS II 1x MAR II 2x T2 Active Hards 1x EANM
Mids: 2x Cap Recharger II 1x 10MN AB II
Highs: 6x Heavy Pulse II 1x Med Nos II
And 2x CCC I's.
