I've discovered the 'public' option in the blueprint window for my POS mobile lab installation but despite going through all of the 'allow by standings' option and experimenting with a non-corp alt, I cannot find the correct configuration which will allow a non-corp member to use the lab.
Anyone know how to correctly configure these options? I'm not sure whether I'm missing a configuration option in the corporation or research options or if the public function is present, but just doesn't work...

'Public' means anyone in the Alliance your Corp is currently in. And then only for jobs that don't require or produce any materials (no invention / copy or some rarer ME/PE jobs) most ME/PE jobs will work.
There's no way to open a lab to the general public, and only reduced functionality outside your corp for alliance members.

I think the public option would be great.
It would force any corp that offers public slots to defend against a war-dec, instead of the current default, which is to pack up the POS in to super-reinforced mode (aka - inside a station hangar).
If you were to offer public slots, then there'd be an expectation that you'd defend the POS, or you'd be out of business rather quick.
So, as a means of getting people fighting, let's get the POS lab slots up and running in public mode and watch the war-decs roll in. We've already seen Goons going after the semi-public offerings of NER and the like. I'd rather it was smaller corps war-deccing each other, not Goons, but if it leads to fights then it's all good.
Those that think that public lab slots would be a license to print ISK, think again.

Blueprints cost some serious money, and I would be a bit worried placing one of mine with a complete stranger, who would be in position to cancel the job and walk away with my stuff...

If the public option worked like the alliance option the worst they could do is cancel the job. Your BPOs would be safe if your own hangar/corp hangar.

This would limit the public option to ME/PE, leaving out copy and invention. Still a benefit for a budding industrialist. Glad it does not work then, too many people competing with me already

Can you explain a noob how that work to get it back to the personal hanger. As atm (in my knowledge) the only possibility to research on a tower is to place the BPO in a devision of the corp hangar. I dont found out, how to do it from a personal one.
Is there any best practice how to do set all up, if you want to offer research for all your corp mates, but dont want that everyone can just cancel jobs and take the BPs?

Curently there is no option to use a private hangar - it must be a corp hangar.
Being able to use a private hangar in a corp POS would be a great leap forward - it would allow private builders access to a corp asset - of course the POS interface would need to allow directors to set appropriate permissions on this.
