There have been many posts lately about the lack of a ship made for the sole reason of transporting whole ships. But this has had many issues with how much it should hold and what not. So while driving home the other day I got this idea.
Maver class ship transport
The Maver class ship transport is a modified Freighter that is about twice as long as a regular freighter but otherwise just about the same stats with a few exceptions. First of it has a cargo hold of only 100M3. Secondly it has 4 slots similar to the ones used by T3 ships known as an arm slot, but placing arms into them does not change the look of the ship. There is also a Jump version of said ship with 3 arm slots and a fuel bay style cargo hold
The arms
This is the main and unique factor of the Maver class transport is that it is reconfigurable. Each arm when installed created a new ship dock. WhatÆs a ship dock you say? Simple, itÆs like a cargo bay but instead of mass it goes by number of ships.
A large ship dock may hold 2 BS sized ships
A medium ship dock may hold 3 BC or cruiser class ships
A small ship dock may hold 9 frigate sized ships
(Numbers can be modified later for balancing and such)
In this format a Maver fitted for carrying BS sized vesselsÆ can carry a total of 8 ships fully rigs and fitted for whatever needs to be done

So you want a T3 freighter?

I was actually thinking about something along the lines of a T3 freighter. Basically you start with the stock capacity around 775,000m3 and depending on the modules you use, it can be divided up into maintenance bay that can haul rigged ships, a regular cargo bay and possibly even a compressed ore hold.

you will notice that i said like a T3 not is a T3. the main T3 pointy fact was that they where unique modual slots for the Arm moduals. i suppose if you wanted you could make them high slots instead.

Simple:
T3 freighter;
6 ship component slots; all 6 slots can take the same "class" of module. (T3's currently have an offensive module, defensive, propulsion, etc...)
T3 freighter should simply have 6 bay slots.
Each bay can fit with one of the following:
50,000 m/3 corp hanger 500,000 m/3 ship maint bay 175,000 m/3 ore hold 100,000 m/3 ammo hold 50,000 m/3 drone bay (for moving fighters - 0 drone bandwidth)
This would allow up to 6 battleships or up to 850,000 m/3 of ore or up to 300,000 of generic corp hanger space to be moved.
oh, and give it a jump drive.

Make the jump drive a module that you have to sacrifice some space for and I'm am fully down with it.

You could generalise T3 Capital industrial ships to allow a number of modules to be strung together - different types of cargo holds is one example, but how about an industrial core for ore compression, and a module that lets you manipulate cargo in space. Both would come at the expense of reduced cargo space.

ya, how about adding +ly to the base jump range per jump drive module you install?
