I dunno, I'm as biased as anyone but the game shares as much UI elements with X3 and BP as EVE, and that doesn't say much because EVE borrows UI paradigms straight from win32.
Visually, the only thing that comes close is the art style of some icons, like the CPU are ores.. but none of those are particularily unique to EVE. Other aesthetic elements are pretty generic across many sci-fi games. Right now this game looks very similar to how EVE looked in alpha and early beta, with the old Neocom UI across the top, not the current game client.
So perhaps its a ripoff of EVE beta? What makes it obvious EVE was used as inspiration is the feature set in combination with the visuals, and even then, that isn't something to get worked up about. EVE did not survive because it had a market, single persistent universe or time based training. They can rip those all they want and it won't get them anywhere. But if they can repeat a successful formula to show it wasn't just a lucky fluke, then all the power to them for bringing some competition.

One thing I forgot to add is that, because I played EVE that UI doesn't scare me. But if they were intentionally borrowing from EVE, then they aren't very smart about it because its been proven time and again that the UI is mainly responsible for the steep learning curve in this game. New or prospective players are going to look at that, go 'wat..' and glance over to something else just like they do with this game.
Oh, and I am getting seriously tired of fuzzy bloom graphics.

lack of any effort to come up with a half arsed storyline depresses me. Lack of Proofreading/Spellcheck Also. Well, maybe it'll get rid of some of the drooling Idiots who are in EVE, and we'll end up with a better game.

Exactly, good luck trying to sue anyone for any kind of rights infringement when they are based in the old Eastern Bloc.
A couple of points though. One: There's the old adage that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Two: Eve is where it is because although CCP may have borrowed heavily from what came before, they realised it means little if you don't put your own slant on it and push it further than the other guys. I'm not seeing much of that so far. If they have so little imagination that even the backstory is so similar, what does that say for the people leading the business? If they are constantly one step behind, it's fine while you're the only one in the market, but it only takes someone else to come along with a little imagination to start seeing your world crumbling around you.
I wish them luck though, might even get on the open beta myself.

Quote: It has been brought to our attention that the client installer has been flagged by a small number of antivirus programs as malware. These hits are false positives and most probably happen because of the client self-update system we have in place. We have contacted the developers of these antivirus programs and sent the client for false positive evaluation - this means that after the client has been checked by them it will be added to their database and their next updates should recognize it as safe.

Looks like EVE, but in 2 dimensions rather than 3. I bet they have time-trained skills, orbit, approach, missiles, lasers, projectiles, drones and some form of jumpgate to get from one area to another. Getting rid of the 3rd dimension and using Mechs is quite a clever spin on EVE really, especially because you can then gain the benefit of prettier and more interactive environments.

Why would Eve players be interested in Sharded crap with little PvP?

I thought the exact same thing =s
gotta say this could be interesting IFF (thats a big iff, I wish I new how to increase font size so I could emphasize how big an if that is) they add some unique stuff to it and don't just go massive copy paste of eve ideas. I'll look forward to trying out the beta and most likely dumping it as I get sick of it's lack of inovation.
will be interesting to watch though and I wouldn't count it out yet after all eve started small just look at their first trailer after release OH GOD LOOK AWAY DO NOT CLICK THAT LINK IT IS PHYSICALLY PAINFUL TO WATCH. ------------------------------

First off, get a dictionary. For crying out loud.
Secondly, Sharded means having more than one server (Like WoW) Whereas Eve is a persistant single universe. No Shards.
Both of the MMO's that you linked (And i use that term lightly they are closer to vapourware than anything else) are going to be (heavily) Sharded according to the information the developers have provided. Meaning the happenings on one server are completely split off from the next, and the next, and the next....
Going by the tidbits of information given to us, Black Prophecy and Jumpgate Evolution are going to have nowhere near the amount of risk as eve. Meaning no thrill. They're going to be soft on the players (One more liken to WoW)
If Eve players wanted WoW in space Eve players would not be playing Eve. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

I still play Transport Tycoon because the gameplay rocks, and few of the similar themed games that have come after it have been able to add anything more than just shinier graphics. So I wouldn't jusge by graphics. People will play some horrendous looking games if they're fun

Right there with you. Try finding a decent present day X-Com for instance, nothing has beaten the orginals yet on fun and gameplay.

Hmm judging by the responses in here we can safely assume that most of the eve players are ripoffs of one another... or you haven't played any other mmo out there.
To say that WoW has clones when there were mmo's pior to WoW with concepts that WoW took in.. or better riped off from other games stories and concepts... lol
Just because EvE has mining and capacitors and cpu usage tracking and this kind of details does it mean that Perpetuum is a clone? Perhaps if you looked at Mechwarrior were tracking speeds, angles of fire, etc etc.. oh wait ripoff! Perpetuum is a ripoff of Mechawarrior.. oh wait that makes EvE a ripoff... oh wait..
You people are really.. ugh.
Kudos to this guys for bringing something to the market, it isn't exactly new and revolutionary but damn better than what the majority has present the gaming comunities with. _____________________________________ Retribution and Death! |

We;re not talking about the statistics (Though if you look at it, almost everything is the same in the fitting screen stat wise). "HIghslots, lowslots midslots" the Layout of the UI, minus the sidebar now being a topbar in Perpetuum, The market UI, Hangar UIs... The Chat...
Linkie
also note the placeholders for the "Slots". Eight of Each... _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008
