I currently reprocess all the loot from my level 4's as I do quite a lot of manufacturing. Am I doing the right thing ISK-wise or would it be better to just sell the loot then buy the materials I need?

I collect meta 4s, sell anything worth more than 100k and reprocess the rest. Still yields good amounts of minerals and keeps some raw ISK flowing into the wallet to pay for those manufacturing fees.

Yep, you'll usually get more reprocessing than you will catering to the component buy orders in your region.

Unless it is one of the meta 4 cash cows I have been melting everything since I started building stuff. One of the few ways to get rare minerals if you don't have access to good roid fields.

I'll get a pile of 10,000k items. I'll scroll once looking for any good selling items and pull them out. Everything else is reprocessed.

Honestly, the answer to your question is yes.
You are loosing isk if you just refine everything but meta 4, however it also costs time to sort out what to refine vs sell, and the specifics change over time.
You might find it worth your while to save the time by just refining all but meta 4.

Agreed. At worst, stock pile the loot. Sort out the good stuff every couple of days or so. After a while the expensive stuff will stick out like a sore thumb so you'll spend less time sorting.

I keep all the Meta 4 items.
I reprocess all the ammo that I cannot use. I take the rest to market to sell. If within 10% of market value (i.e. max of 10% under current price) I sell. Whatever doesn't sell gets reprocessed and used for manufacturing.

I was astounded how much I made the first time I took my loot to a market place to sell it instead of melting it down. A fully expanded Mammoth hauling a belly full of loot to a major market hub can make ~ 100 Million ISK Just selling the things that sell for more than mineral price. Some things I make my own sales orders for if I can't get a decent price. Finally the things that just won't sell I melt down and sell the mins - again making my own orders to get high book prices instead of settling for low book.

Dump everything into a station warehouse.
Once a month, sort it into five piles.
1. Consumables you can use (if any)
2. Highest meta T1 items to sell (highest for some will be 3 or 2, most are 4)
3. Salvage (if any)
4. Rare meta 6+ faction loot (if any)
5. Reprocess the rest; sell or trash what can't be reprocessed.
Optionally, keep the second highest meta per category for invention.
Edit: I do pretty much this, but sort only two or three times a year.
