The black ships sorta makes sense. After all, space is mostly black, innit?
TBH the black ships are one of the things they've ruined. We used to have awesome black ships (the old Khanid ships, for example, with their beautiful black with blue lights), but now they're all turned into an ugly dull dark gray instead. |

Wait a minute. Are you serious?
I remember flying that thing around a couple years ago just before I quit. That police light was so important to the overall look. Everytime I heard "Gallente Navy Comet" I would think of the light. Same thing with the Slicer (it has two lights, doesn't it?). If they seriously removed that light.. what are they thinking!? I don't know how anyone could think that removing all these iconic and beloved quirks and designs is a good idea, and for what? We don't really gain anything from yet another bland out of place camo-painted ship taking the place of a once unique design. All I see is a big step toward Perpetuum, where all the robots are so samey and ugly I had no desire to progress in the game.
The vexor's smiley face, the comet's police paint, light, and GFPF stencil, the old helios model, why can't we have these things back? Why did they have to change in the first place?
Let me tell you, I'll probably never fly a comet again. The only reason I sought it out in the first place was "holy crap I can play a space police ship!", and then I learned to fly it and it introduced me to new playstyles and a lot of fun. If it were the current, dull camo skin, I'd have never taken that step in the first place.
The art team really seems to be doing the opposite of what they're supposed to. Before, the art design of EVE's ships drew me in and made me want to fly them for no reason other than that they looked really cool. Now there seems to be a quest to remove any uniqueness and make the only reason to switch ships numbers, which essentially amounts to the art team making themselves obsolete. |

This is a very good point. Why is the paintwork being applied look like the ships are Earthbound and planetary, not interplanetary ? Indeed. The only functional camouflage is, ironically, the bright and shiny coatings of certain Interceptors, like the Stiletto. Very different from terrestrial-based camouflage.
Honestly, the most effective camo is probably flat black paint. |

Unimaginitive dudes who arent really artists at all, they dont remodel anything so much as add more crap granular textures to surfaces as the abilty of video cards to display more stuff gores up. They do not so much make cool looking stuff as much as they put demand on graphics cards. These are not "artists" these are hacks, trying tocreate job security with lame-ass models and doing a mostly poor job of it. I will say i never really cared for the asyemetric caldari designs, and they are mostly ugly. Maybe the ships are gonna be able to land SoonGäó and sprout tank treads - That's the only reason I can think of that camo would be on a frikkin spaceship. Flying under Corporate colors is one thing but you can't tell me your Corporation's flag is Arctic Camo. *facepalm* |

On SiSi? Check the model in-game, it's long gone
And I totally agree with the comet. It and several other quirky and/or awesome looking ships are actually a lot of the driving forces behind what I've done in game. I'll look at a ship, decide it looks really cool and I want to fly it, and then I'll work toward it. It's led me to new playstyles, new aspects of the game, and all sorts of stuff I never would have experienced otherwise. I know I'm not alone in this, and the art team seems to be removing their own influence from the game by working toward some kind of space camo singularity. |

perhaps CCPs art department needs a lesson in what camouflage is and why its used.
obscuring visual features is pointless in an environment where targeting is done with sensors and computers
whats the point, its not like someone is going to fail to target you because they didn't notice your ship hiding in the roids
nevermind that dark, light absorbing colors run counter to the concept that reflecting colors keep solar heat issues at bay and parking a black ship next to the sun is pretty silly The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. I really don't like what the art department is doing with the T2 bits. It's worrying. They only seem to want lazy T2 reskins, and looking at Carthum and CreoDron they don't care how muddy it looks.
And at the same time the Caldari is totally moving away from its asymmetric modular design. The old Scorp and Ibis looked much more 'Caldari' then the new ones.
Yeah I was pissed about the extra engines taken off the crane too though I disagree about the Creodron skins...before the v3 they looked like some poorly spray painted plastic toy now they look decent. |

Bat ears need to stay, I don't even fly Minmatar but the vagabond hull needs to stay. I really wish they asked for community imput before getting rid of parts on a ship. They often underestimate how much people are attached to their ships (even if you lose it a million times).

Except that camouflage still relies on sight, EVE ships target things without needing to visually see things. |

poor example Dazzle was intended to confuse gunners as to the bearing and course of the target vessel, it's obviously not intended to make the ship invisible.
our weapons do not rely on manual input of course information, in fact navies don't manually input tracking data anymore, a main reason why dazzle and naval camouflage in general don't exist in the modern world except for perhaps small boats with no radar return. The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The typical "camouflage" people think of is worthless in a featureless expanse like space. Dazzle is a prime example of that. It's also a prime example of why camouflage as an indicator of being military hardware is a poor notion as well.
In short, our ships should be painted in attractive, pleasing colors, because it really doesn't matter in any way, shape or form from a tactical stand point. |

its only worthless if you don't need to know which end is the front and dazzle while not superb was still somewhat effective as designed.
and I'm fairly sure more commercial shipping and merchants used dazzle as ASW than military ships did
dazzle was a direct answer to a specific problem, that's why its a poor example

Actually, you made a joke about what's been a sore nerve of the community's for quite a while. Maybe you didn't realize it, but the community has been pretty upset for a long time about CCP replacing ship models with ones that are markedly worse. |
