Setting another group blue helps you police your space and avoid the mishaps of shooting friendly pilots.
It is kind of hard to understand in the abstract. Should IT have the opportunity to hold any space of ITS own, you will come to understand the value of standings and resets.

tl;dr molle and babby atlas got into a limp-wristed slapfight over who gets the pile of crappy ex-pet corps and IT got reset.
