So, i scanned down a Guristas Provincial HQ plex in Venal. No faction loots from the Dread Guristas Ursuper, but instead: An Escalation! Holy S***, i had never seen one of those before. Quick googling told me it was really really hard and dropped Pith X-Type mods in the end. Ok, i got my Ishtar/Basilisk team to the first part of the escalation, which was easy. The second one was in a Morsus Mihi outpost system and as Morsus Mhihi don't really like me, was kinda hard to do. They actually got me in a camp, but i got out with hull damage. Again, no faction loot in the second stage. But what did it matter if X-Type was to come in the end? The third stage was 15 jumps away, in a populated system in Venal. Still doable with some rewarping and cloaking on safespots. Dread Guristas Conquistador in here, but no loots. Who cares... Hmm, maybe i would like to do something else than EVE now and calm down a bit? No way, 24h time limit or all will be lost. So we started the last stage in the evening. The last escalation, luckily, was in a rather empty system. We had to get epic dps to kill the boss npc, so we asked some corp and alliance mates. Two of them failed in NC camps, but two eventually got through. So we had a Blasterthron, Ishtar, Basilisk, and Hound. We lost the Ishtar in the first attempt because the Basilisk came too late and got a new one. We came back, overloaded our guns till our ships were glowing red (and so did our faces) and finally broke the tank of this Overseer. I think you can imagine what comes now: The Overseer Loot for which i ignored my real life for two days and for which we lost 2 HACs and a bomber.
-Named Invul -Named 425 Rail -Named BCU -Dread Guristas Tag -Some Guristas Torpedos
Seriously WTF. The hardest Guristas escalation site and nothing, really nothing in the loots. We worked on that for two days, in the most dangerous areas, killed NPCs that hit for 300 damage on 96% resists, even brought a Blasterthron to Venal, lost ships and just bought new ones without thinking, and then: nothing. Please CCP, do two things:
1) Extend the time limit to 7 days for each part of the escalation. I mean, i am on vacation at the moment and still got serious time problems although i played like 5 hours a day to get it done. What should someone who has to go to work do? It is rather impossible for someone with a real life to do this stuff. 2) When there is an Overseer that tanks 2k dps or more and requires a remote repped ishtar to tank, please let it drop a 23rd Tier Overseer Effect and give it 100% chance that at least some deadspace module drops (be it C-Type or A-Type or anything).

Did an explo site the other day ( in low sec ) got 4 escalations, Domi spawn in each, only one dropped faction loot ( rubbish at that ) with the 4th escaltion going to 0.0 and the overseer dropped nothing...it's hit and miss i think, but yeah sucks to waste a day or two for little reward.
On the other hand i'm sure there are many people who did get the X-Type loot you were after, just keep trying i suppose.

It works as intended, otherwise everyone would be flying faction fitted ships... If it makes you feel better i did 4 signatures yesterday one of them being provincial hq and havent got a single faction loot and in one of the didnt even get Dread Guristas spawn. But i know the feeling, when u spend so much time/effort and get nothing.

aye, i (the hound pilot) was amazed that a 30m BS having such a harsh tank and dealing so much damage would drop NOTHING.

I agree with this.
Almost every time I get an escalation, it's at the end of an evening's play when I know I won't be able to play again in the next 24 hours. My fault for having work, family and a social life, I guess.
Even 48 hours would be a big improvement.

I feel your pain, did the Angel version of the same thing and was soooo excited when we got the escalation pop up. That escalation series really is the toughest site in eve, it ate one of my corpmate's Ishtars, the one he used to solo lvl 5 missions and 10/10s with.
At the end (after no less than 4 seperate Domination Battleships that dropped either nothing, or crap) we did get 1 X-type mod...a 100mn afterburner. made about 100 mil off of it :( . Talk about disappointing.
Luck of the draw I guess, did the same escalation last month and made like 3 Bil off of it. |

The only problem is that you don't know what you're doin.
1) You can take as long as you like to complete an escalation. Just refresh the timer.
2) The wiki for the plex clearly says the boss *CAN* drop nice loot. Do you really not know the difference between "can" and "will"?

Basically, Deputy has the correct response. You can extend an escalation until next year if you want and random loot is *gasp* random.

If you're referring to resetting the timer by e.g warping to the bookmark, I've not always had that work past downtime.

Wow, thanks for telling me that in such a nice way! I really didn't know that, but I guess I won't be doing anything like this again. Maybe this knowlegde will be useful for someone else.
And yes, I am able to read and i saw that it said "can" drop nice loot. But i think it should not be this way. Getting an escalation in the first place requires you to scan and do very many exploration sites (statistically). Doing these escalation sites requires much time, many skillpoints, expensive ships, much experience and you need to take extremely high risk. Especially when you happen not to be an NC member so you operate alone with all this expensive PvE fitted stuff in hostile territory without scouts (because everyone who can help has to be in a bomber for additional dps...). It says risk -> reward, doesn't it? Well, when I take this risk and this effort it just sucks to get nothing. Which is why I will probably not do escalation sites again. If I had used the same amount of time for ratting, I would have earned more isk and probably wouldn't have lost a ship. This cannot be the point of doing escalations. |

Plex Drops, Broken?
Well at least you don't live in Angel space, where 90% of the deadspace A/B/C/X type loot have crappier stats than T2.

Or perhaps unlike other entities we don't have 95% of eve blue.... (in other words, pretty much everyone in eve does their best to kill us wherever we go)

Yes. And it works most times, but not (in my experience) 100% of the time. So you may occasionally lose an escalation as a result. My alt was very sad when this happened to him early in his exploration career, because there was Pithum C-type loot waiting for him (escalation off of an anomaly, to a Guristas Scout Outpost).

Pith X-Type loot costs as much as it does because it's so rare. Sorry you got bad luck - one time, a blue and I had the end of Hired Gun in the same system at the same time, and where he got 800m of drops I got 40m worth of salvage. It's life, and you get used to crap drops pretty quick.
How was your Ishtar fit that it died before the Basilisk could get to it, though, especially given that an Ishtar could solotank the thing if it can afford to devote all slots to tank? Also, toughest escalation? Look up the Dread Guristas Fleet Staging Post or The Maze - no, that 180,000 EM damage torpedo isn't a typo, and in The Maze you don't even have the option of dropping a capital on it like you can the DG FSP (or No Quarter 3 and 4, for that matter). If you had gotten that, would we be getting a "Our tank got instapopped because our logistics failed and all we got were sweatsocks" rant?

2 LSE II, Kin Hardener II, Therm Hardener II, Damage Control. No tank rigs because there were Sentry Damage Rigs in it. And yes, I know I failed at warping my Basilisk in correctly. It was just a mistake. But I strongly doubt that an Ishtar can solotank this site. Especially in the third part where the EM Missiles hit me for 1000+ damage even with an EM Hardener.

I agree to the random drop part, you shouldn't always get 3 bil at the end of an escallation.
What I do object about is the randomness OF escalations. Each site SHOULD escalate to the final stage and not have a random chance TO escalate. Thats the thing that is really wrong with exploration. If you spent an entire evenening racing across hostile space only to get denied even the chance to reap ANY reward even the low 15 mil drop because a rand(0,100) method just had a bad seed is utterly crap

It can drop nice stuff (dropped some nice stuff for me 2 weeks ago). As with all exploration/escalations, the drops are chance based.
