Edited by: Symlin Raahn on 05/11/2009 08:00:59 When switching back to a previously active in-game chat channel window, I often find it difficult to know where I left off (stopped reading), before I left the window -- which I usually left to see the text in another chat channel window.
I think many of us, particularly those of us in private corps that are also in alliances, end up with 4 or 5 standard chat windows open, and, at times, have many more chat windows open.
When the tab for another chat window start flashing, you know there is a new message line (or many new message lines) in that window. So, you switch to it. The problem then is that there can be many, MANY, MANY new message lines from several players in that window. Now you are faced with this dilemma: "Now let me see, where did I stop reading??" So, you scroll up (usually up and down), reading hear and there, and trying to find the last message line you read. Many times you have to scroll way up to find it, and the last line you read can be VERY hard to locate.
The Trillian, Internet Relay Chat (IRC) reading software has solved this problem. With Trillian, when you leave an IRC chat window to check for new text in another IRC chat window, or leave the window so that it is not the active window, Trillian can, if the option to do so is checked, put a line under the last message line that was in the window when you left the window. This makes finding where you probably left off reading VERY EASY.
If, in some way, this could be a feature in EVE chat channels, I think it would make reading them a whole lot easier for all of us. It wouldn't necessarily have to be a line under the last message line that was left before you switched away from the chat channel window -- making it no longer the active window. It could be, for instance, a different colored text for the last line, or some other kind of marker. Personally, I would be glad to see ANY kind of marker.
I think implementing this would be much appreciated by all of us.
Example of chat with the requested feature is below:
Kroger> did you c where they went? Bond Gif> yeah.. they were neuts thou Sreggy> we can shoot them anyway Tiger> they weren't bothering us Kroger> NBSI Kroger> that the policy Bond Gif> ok, let's get em Bond Gif> x up if you want in the fleet. Kronger> x Tiger> x
OK. In this example, when you switch back to the chat in this window, you know the last line that was there before it was made the non-active window was from Sreggy. There is also a good chance that was the last line you read before you switched away from the window, or stopped actively monitoring it. You can easily spot it, and can quickly scroll to it without re-reading a bunch of lines.
I hope I'm making myself clear and am not being too confusing.
Thx!

I can't believe that there aren't a lot of people think this is a good idea. Did I type too much?
OK.
SHORT VERSION OF SUGGESTION:
Example of chat with the requested feature is below:
Kroger> did you c where they went? Bond Gif> yeah.. they were neuts thou Sreggy> we can shoot them anyway Tiger> they weren't bothering us Kroger> NBSI Kroger> that the policy Bond Gif> ok, let's get em Bond Gif> x up if you want in the fleet. Kronger> x Tiger> x
In this example, when you switch back to the chat in this window, you know the last line that was there before you clicked away from it was from Sreggy because the game is underlining it. ттт ттт ттт ттт ттт ттт т Growing old is mandatory. т Growing up is optional.
