I come from Asheron's Call and therefore I am spoiled by this games monthly content updates. Yeap, every month something new. Some months it's quite paltr, but after 3 years of AC I can't say that it was a bad idea. And there's lore too! An attempt to shove a bit of history into the game as well, to flavour things
Will EVE have new content too, not just bug fixes? So far all "lore" I've read was in the manual. And is the plan to have content that goes beyond mere fixing bugs and adding another item?

I would like to see ANY content. Not just the random pirates out there, I want to see a storyline that evolves. --------------------------------------------- 2004.08.12 14:50:32combatYour 720mm Carbine Howitzer I perfectly strikes Guristas Destructor, wrecking for 543.9 damage. |

Me too..
This game offered so much promise. Now I just feel like a sucker.
It's okay though, I share my pain with others. _____ m0o

Content seems "dissapointingly" to be limited to role-playing excuses for bugs atm.
There is no content storywise at all atm and even content in terms of functionality and items in the game is very limited atm. Certainly much less to buy and sell than in most MMORPG's i have played which I hope will be addressed with an immediate introduction of Tech Level 2/3 items, some kind of story would be nice, variations in the universe that arent related to servers crashing!
I come from AC2 too - that is very content rich and still gets my sub fees months later However it does lack the depth of involvement that Eve has which is why people tend to get bored with ac2. I am getting a little bored with Eve atm because there does not seem to be any kind of driving force behind the game at the moment. Its the depth of involvement that keeps me - but that will only last so long. The game is just about up to what I would call functional now, time to step it up a gear i reckon with some disaster, invasion of Jovians, or something to bind the players together in a common goal. ---------------------------------------------------

hey we are the content here. We are the player events. CCP provided the game, the surroundings, the world, the tools, now we ought to use it. Like this piracy/m0o thing, quite a nice event? ok maybe not for all but its something :)
Your the news, now make it :) do something interesting if u want, make a nice RP around it
no matter which way u put it, mining/NPC's are quite dull, they wont propose any 'thrilling' events. u have to make it yourself Its not enough to succeed. Others must fail. |

I agree Seer. It is time to get some ongoing and involving backstory. I think the Polaris Aurora Program ist going to bring such kind of content into the game.

I come from AC2 and I'm also used to the "monthly content". However AC2 was a disaster and that is why I eventually left. I probably would of stayed longer if it wasn't for some of my RL friends that play Eve. My first MMOG was AO(BAD EXPERIENCE). I understand AO is a GREAT game today. My little bro started playing it again and it's awesome. However I played it when it first came out, understand my "Bad Experience" now? lol. Eve is my third MMOG now and I've just come to accept the reballancing / bug fixes, TO AN EXTENT. The type of bug fixes / reballancing that AC2 had to do(and is still doing) is just plain flipping crazy. That game is an embarrasement to the MMOG community. Sorry for being so harsh but I'm pretty bent since I played it from day one. |

Chee, but at the moment, there is no content. We have minmatars that don't care about amarrians, caldaris who don't care about gallentes, we need some history, some storyline, something interesting to add some flavour.
Have peeks of the week and stories about npc corporations, trade negotiations break down, a rogue minmatar faction starts terrorising amarrian stations. Terrorist attacks, etc. The gallente discover arms shipments from caldari npc factions to the serpentis which starts a war, something to add some spice. Something that shakes up the eve universe basically. Main Everlasting Vendetta Veteran Member of the Stain Alliance |

well then the problem lies with the people, there are just too much selfish boring people who mine and fight NPC pirates. Cant blame ccp for that imo. Moo on the other hand is giving it a very good go Its not enough to succeed. Others must fail. |

Hi all, just ste my opinion on this subject from one who I bleave has experience on this topic. I have played virtualy all commercial online rpg's ( AC, AC2, AO, E&B, UO, PlanetSide ) other than Ac & AO I gave up on all of the pretty quick I gave up on E&B & Planetside after 2 days they were pathetic. AC2 lasted 1 week just to basic a game aimed at those who dont have time for depth in a game more aimed at those who have an hour here & there not 15 hours a day.
EVE so far I agree like most others its basicaly a mining sim, there is huge depth to this game once its all working properly, such as a stock market, huge corp wars & battles, bounty hunting MOO :)
This game has huge potential, great graphics & sound the few things which would make it better.
1) I think would be STATION creation - build your own corp station have your own factories & research labs no one but you can own or buidl in that station but any are welcome to trade at it.
2) Autonimous sentry guns auto firing at anyone with a WANTED on there name tag - these could bee placed at all important sections of the space your space station is located in.
3) they say corp wars would be prohibitave caus of loss of ships but as long as they are insured you get back 95% of the ships value so its not a huge loss, i think once more people are in cruisers & battleships these will be more prominent - just needs corps to advertise the fact so people can enjoy buy watching from a distance or something. or pick a side and help out.
4) the main boring part so far thats very prominent to me is mining - I know there is trading for cash and fighting for cash and some other ways but mining is the mainstay of most peoples income, and when your employed by a corporation and you are mining 100% for them and they pay your bills its a bit hard to be enthusiastic about mining full on.
its easy to be solo and mining you keep all you earn the harder you work the more you earn - like real life its why more & more people work for them selfs at home ( I DO :) the harder i work the more i earn but when u work for a corp its all given to you just as long as you give them all the ore you mine - so there are 2 elemts
1) your unenthusiastic about mining ful on for a corp caus you dont keep what u make.
2) you dont feel like you earned whats given to you caus you didnt pay for it yourself.
its a catch 22 - I like to solo but know I want get to be involved in the fun stuff like wars & battles unless in a corp, I also need a corps access to factories to build stuff to make purchasing cheaper.
SORRY for ranting hard to get across a clear point - my points are as many as the depth of the game theres alot of em. I like the game and so far on the surface of reading the NDA lifted restriction of STAR WARS GALAXY it has the potential of beating that game. but it does need more in the game.
I know we are basicly still in the first month or so and there is aways to go yet to the prime time of the game give it 6 months or so and it may have huge potential. but why do these game manufacturers over look the obvious we all judge a game based on when we play it - and those who are going to play the game will play it at the release of it. so we base our opinions on a contentless game :(
LOL i can find a finsihing sentance i keep finding more things to say :)
In closing - I like the game enough that if i dont pay to play after the first free month i will come back after a few months and give it another go - i still have 3 weeks togo on my first month, i doubt i will see any improvments in the game before then so if nothing comes of this game well we still have SWG to goto next.

I believe the plan is in Eve that the `history` will start quite soon - then there will be more events and content that will evolve as the players act. If you look there is already quite alot f history - on this site for instance there are stories ets to read and history articles that can give you a good groundig to roleplay. Also have a read of the role play forum - the people there and some of the threads may point you in the directions you want.
I read that there are about 40 new ship designs waiting to go in that anrt in the game atm. So I assume at some point we will start to see new content - oh and dont forget the Jovians havnt arrived yet either.
I think at the moment ev1 is finding their feet - we are getting a player base settled - and hopefully things will start to get more interesting soon. (I myslef love it now so dont mind too much :)

Well I have played all those other MMOG and alot of the smaller ones not many know about.
And I am actually content with the speed things have been going.
However the only thing that has peeved me is the reverse engeneering thing. Supposedly it is in game but noone is able to do it. I am sure if CCP would tell us how to do this a whole new door would open up. But that alone wouldn't be enough. It would be nice to see some Jove stuff in the market and flying around in Jove ships.
Heh the story seems to be moving if somewhat slow. I dunno, I try to be content with what I have now so when the new content comes out I will be doubly happy.
But so far I can't complain.
And no I have not mined a single roid ;) |

Wrangler, will there be a possibilty that polaris will start to become the storyline, example, minmatar terrorists make a daring hit and run on a large amarrian convoy with escort where both parties are flown by polaris members i.e. some sort of predefined scripted event? As I was told by a GM. Hang on to your knickers because after 2 months it will hit the fan in terms of storyline and content. Right now they are fixing any problems they come accross in playability and bugs before initiating any of the storyline.

I got the same word from a GM who ambled through our system in the first week of game play. They said that the first 3 months was to let everyone get built up and settled in and then the content would start flowing.

Am I the only one who doesn't WANT the devs to spend their time cluttering up the game with silly backstory content?
For me, all the interesting content in the game comes from the players. The stories of piracy encounters, big fights, exploration, savvy business ventures, and corporate politics... that's what I like to hear about, from the players.
I have absolutely no interest in NPC storylines. I don't care to know the difference between a Minmitar and a Wookie. Only the player content interests me. ___________________________________________

Sorry, Setec, but npc content will come. It'd also affect faction reactions, etc.
This is, for me, the biggest attraction EvE has. The backstory :))

Well yes a background story could be annoying but, if not played with a heavy hand, could also be interesting. If Galente and Ammar go to war how would that affect trade? Stuff like that or reports of a huge planet sized ship somewhere in a region could be fun if not forced down our throats.

Setec, in case it ever crops up in conversation, a wookie is about 7 feet tall and very hairy, and a minmatar is a weak little slave creature.
I could go wither way with the backstory and such. I'd like to be involved in it, but even the little snippets are all good. Gives me something to read at work.
Some of the items have already been snuck in. Serpent's coil being one of them. The coil got a lot of visitors after the potw. .

Hi there.
We add content in our patches and the graphics team is busy building models for stations, ships, environments and new character heads and costumes. Some of it has trickled into the game already and some will be added in the coming weeks and months. Expect the storyline to start unfolding as sightings of Wraith Frigates become common.

I really could care less about a storyline that I get forced to march along to. I'd much rather see all the features, skills, ships, faction and bugs get fixed. A once a month update to "advance a story" is a waste fo time IMO.
Life isn't fair and neither is Eve. Get over it. |
