I got stumped by a little kid 
The question was "Is Australia a country or a continent?"
So I asked the almighty Google and it said that it's both... how can this be?!

If Australia wants to be both at the same time, then it's probably a good idea to let it.

If Australia is a country, and also a continent, then what continent is New Zealand and Tazmania on? Are they both considered "Australia" when talking continents?

The australian country is composed of only part of the australian continent.
Think America/American continent, people are confusing this way.

It is part of a continent
EDIT: There is no world wide accpeted definition of continent. So many scientists consider all land mass of a continental palte as part of the continent even if it is under water. END EDIT:
It just so happens that what the areas on the continental shelf that would be lakes on other continents, are too low and are flooded in by the ocean.

Quite the opposite in fact, the mainland continent comprises only part of the country of Australia, which also includes Tasmania and some other islands.
