Sweet! So does this mean that they're moving the moons closer to the planets? It always was a bit wierd to me how each moon can be so far away from their planets

Isn't that picture a bit too dark to be from EVE? Every system I remember recently visiting has some magical glow, that makes black the rarest color in space and planets are clearly colored even on the night side.

Moons in the solar system can be quite a distance from their parent planet - take a look at http://btc.montana.edu/ceres/Worlds/earthmoon.jpg for a rare image which contains both the earth and the moon.

Edited by: Shas Shadow on 11/11/2009 01:20:32 I do not really like it to be honest, not "fantasy" enough and the strange structure just looks awful on my screen. I hope they will change it as it has been pointed out i think it looks too dark, doesn't make you want to play the game.
A picture would be better because i do not have AA turned on (i am on a 500$ notebook from 2 years ago) so the planets look like crap for me (i mean the moon of course.)
Personally I prefer the current apocrypha style of background, that should be applied with Dominion too but in a red colored theme as it is the color of blood , war, rage and hate :) ( Red is a vivid color and would therefor stress the breath taking new features and changes that will be seen in Dominion) and well i would make it more of a 'painting' instead of an "animation".
I Wrote more then 5 words!!!!
edit: Damn it some people are going to tell me Red is the color of love [:nocomment:] Caldari FTW lol |

The point is you can't enable it without special tools. That said, your statement is also wrong. AA can be set per client, not only per machine.

In Eve, moons can be a few AUs away from their planet.
Of course it's not like they absolutely must be closer, after all it's not like sun's gravity will destabilize their orbits if they're too far...

One of Jupiters more recently discovered moons ("S/2003 J2") has an orbital radius of 28,570,000KM (~ 0.2 AU). It's pretty far out, but it's also just a tiny little rock harldy worth calling a moon.
I'd say everything with a round shape (aka all EVE moons) should fall within the first 2-3 million KM. More than 1 AU is just ridiculous.
edit: Not that it's really important or anything. Just saying it's wrong :) And of course it would only take all of 11 seconds to change the generator scripts max distance variable... *shrug*

Edited by: Grez on 14/11/2009 02:16:51 AA cannot 'only be set per client' unless it's some magical way of enabling AA. AA is set via the graphics card, and enabled through it (games that have the option just temporarily set the graphics card to enable it whilst that game is running). AA can only be enabled in full screen. AA is made of pixies.
Also, AA has nowt to do with static images (JPG's). So you're both foo's.
That all said: Me likey. Has a nice darkish ring to it! ---

nHancer, with the right options, forces AA on for window-mode EVE quite well.

The login page is animated: the sov logo is rotates. Is it being rendered with the game engine?

ccp have done a good job on the splash page Signature - CCP what this game needs is more variance in PVE aspects and a little bit less PVP focus, more content more varied level 1-4 missions more than just 10 per faction high sec low sec and 00 |

First of all let me be sure we are talking about the same thing.. I've been offline a long while. I am talking abou the "LOGIN" screen splash page for Dominion which shows the lower limb of a planet, in reds, with city lights visible on surface. A south pole sunrise (or sunset) is occuring. The whole color scheme is reddish. Is this what you are all talking about?
Cuz if so, the naysayers are swoll idiots.. This is a very attractive and dramatic space scene.
If we are refering to something else.. then sorry.

heh, you just necroed this thread but hey-ho...
I liked the old one they had with the mainly grey theme, the lone structure next to the moon etc... It showed off the changes made to moons/planets, and gave a very lonely feel to the game.
When they changed to the new red-ish theme that we have now, it was originally fighterbombers instead of the ships in the picture. That too, looked pretty awesome.
But when they pulled the plug on fighter bombers at the last minute, you can tell the art department was rushed to sort out the splash screen and replace the fighterbombers with the Brutix' etc we see today. Personally, i think the lighting of the ships doesn't tie in with the lighting of the scene and it all looks very "shopped". They should've rolled back to the grey/moon screen when they pulled the fighterbombers IMO.
