A few friends have been telling me to get out of dollars and into hard assets or commodities. My question is...If the dollar dies as my friends are telling me within a year to two years. 1.5 years maybe from my research. If that happens will that affect GoonSwarm if they are mainly a US group of players? Will this affect Eve? Some comments would be appreciated.
Regards, Arbren.

I think the economy in a general sense has affected a large amount of players of Eve. I know of numerous people that have reduced their number of accounts, gtc purchases and reduced their playtime to work a bit more (or look for a job). I think if push came to shove Goons would pick Something Awful (even though Fark.com is better imo) over playing Eve, which isn't surprising due to their enjoyment of the lulz. They could get many more lulz in kiddiedom (SA) than in the ISS we have all grown to love and appreciate.

Why would they have to pick SA over Eve? SA is a one time fee, not recurring. Additionally, a crashed US dollar means higher unemployement which means more goons out of work with more free time on our hands. --------------- This sig has been censored in fear of recieving the ban hammer... |

A friend told me the dollar would be replaced by the euro, which will eventually become a global currency. He has a blog with some really interesting stuff about Obama.

The relatively low value of the US currency could force CCP to increase the price of a monthly subscription. This would no doubt hurt the players who pay for EvE using US currency. I do not think any single player community is better or worse off though. Knowing EvE players, most of them will be out on the streets turning tricks, stealing hubcabs and mugging seniors in order to get the monies they need.
On a somewhat silly note: - CCP may need to start taking Mexican Pesos or Canadian Dollah? - How many grams (we use the metric system in the real world,) of gold would a 60 day game time code cost you? - Power of Four offers? - Unemployed dollerdependant players grind ISK and emplyed players from emerging echonomies sell them game time codes.
Personally I think we are all going to die soon anyway, so there is no use worrying about how to pay for EvE

I don't know why i'm bothering but here goes...
The dollar isn't going to die anytime soon. The fact that global investors were running to the dollar and treasuries in droves during the banking crisis in '08 is the most solid evidence it is still the worlds reserve currency. One of the biggest reasons it is still the worlds #1 reserve currency is the U.S. has one thing the Europeans severely lack: an effective military. Without U.S. support, NATO would be an even bigger joke than it already is and the ability for Europe to respond to an invasion from say, Russia, would be extremely limited. Hence the euro is not as solid as the dollar from a long term standpoint. The dollar is experiencing pre-recession levels of inflation, but there's still significant deflationary pressure on the dollar because of the weak US economy which is why the fed can print all the money it wants and inflation still stays at about 4% year to year. U.S. banks are swimming in liquidity right now but it hasn't affected prices that much because they are still extremely reluctant to lend.
BTW, isn't the leader of IT Alliance SirMolle? Last i checked he was American, is the weak dollar going to mean you guys are out of a leader?

Molle's daddy is Chuck Norris, he just thinks about it and all EVE accounts covered.
Just kidding.
CCP won't increase subscription price, considering ISK (Iceland Krone) is significantly depreciated toward Dollar than any other currency.
Poor Reyjavik CCP souls getting paid with ISK so that we can play EVE with 14$ forever. I have no pod. |

Edited by: Del Mei on 11/11/2009 03:08:40 I doubt the U.S.D. is going anywhere, now or any time in the near future. How many countrys own U.S. Tresury bonds? China has a massive amout, along the lines of 500 Billion last time I checked. Now, as for the U.S. using the Euro or anthor currency, it will never happen. Hell, we are still the only country using the Dewy Decmial system. Americans (like me) are proud and set in out ways . Now, if we could get our lovley socilast pres out of office who is further dragging us down the tube of debt we would be doin just fine :).
Forgot to add- How many countrys including Iceland, just about all of Europe, Russia, and god knows how many African countrys recive aid from the U.S.? And just rember, we provide 95% of all troops in U.N. troop deployments and god knows how much we pay of there budget.

Your Right - but for mostly the wrong reasons. The dollar is going nowhere primarily because the USA has so many consumers. It has nothing to do with the strength of any army. The value of the currencies has always fluctuated.. I bought a nice dodge charger on my last visit when the ú was worth 2 $. Looks like a bargain right now.
I don't see the value of the $ having any affect at all on Eve, especially as CCP have the right to rhier charges at any time.
