1. The wowwww-effect
I have warped around on sisi alot these days, and have also made alot of screenshots. I have uploaded the screenies in my photobucket album, see here
http://s298.photobucket.com/albums/mm242/Staatsschutz/
I have also posted my screens in my usergalery at mmorpg.com. To my surprise, the following screenshots got the most attention (they made it almost instantly into the top 24 favourite photos of the week section there):
Currently Rank 6: 1
Currently Rank 14: 2
Currently Rank 15: 3
Currently Rank 16: 4
Currently Rank 17: 5
Currently Rank 18: 6
This isnt very representative though, especially since few people on mmorpg.com even vote on images, and also those 6 images above were among the first i uploaded there. Its clear, that the ones that i have uploaded later, dont have that much votes yet.
But i think its safe to say that we can still do a basic analysis why its these 6 images to make it in the top24:
Pic 1: Its the w-space background that does the trick. Its obvious that the planet is very little on that photo due to the distance between camera and planet. But still: The w-space background matches perfectly.
Pic 2: People like Lava Planets. Thats for sure. And those new Lava planets DO look good.
Pic 3: The MANY different shades of blue, along with the impressive geological anomalies and geotectonical peculiarities do the trick, and make this planet so stunning to look at
Pic 4: Dont know why this made it into the top24, but one thing is clear: An earth-type planet does NOT need to have the shiny standard blue and green colors attached to it to look beautiful
Pic 5: Well, its a plasma planet. Alone the name "plasma planet" is ubar. People like things like that, no doubt. But from my point of view its especially because the blackish colors in combination with the blueish plasma spheres make this look ubar.
Pic 6: The typical earth-type planet. But this one has an exceptional good color composition. Its mainly the many different shades of green which do the trick here.
(someone was faster than me xD. My Feedback is being continued in the 2nd reply)

Good job CCP - haven't had the time to go check the planets on SiSi, but looking at the pictures I'm pretty convinced you guys pulled a really awesome update there. =======================================

3. Geotectonical special features:
Atm 90% of the new eve planets have either only their texture, and no geotectonical special features attached to them, or only one geotectonical special feature.
The linked planets below are a good example for one special geotectonical pecularity, that has been added on top of the pure texture:
1
2
The geotectonical feature im speaking of here, are the stripes around the planets. Sooo, instead of having just another planet with a texture we have already seen so often, the stripes do generate a whole new WOW-Effect for the visitor
Below is another good example for a very stunning geotectonical feature (its the lines that are spanning and crossing all over the surface):
3
Now, what will make planets uber, is when you combine several geotectonical features in one planet, as seen on these two:
4
5
But sadly these are among the only planets, and they are VERY RARE, which have more than one geotectonical feature
SOO: Its ok for some planets to only have the texture, and/or only one geotectonical feature, but to make the new planets even more stunning, several different geotectonical features on one planet would do the trick here.

4. Thunderstorm Planets:
They clearly need alot more work put into them. Atm every thunderstorm planet looks basically the same. Ok i have seen one whose color tone was a bit more blueish than the olive-green all the other thunderstomr planets, but my proposal would be:
Alot more different shades of brighter color-shades, darker color-shades, and maybe more colors in general to the thunderstorm planets.
Its ok that some of them have an uniform color scheme, but some of them should definately have several contrasting color schemes (not yellow, or red. But lets say for a blueish thunderstomrm planet, i could take light blue, dark blue, white, black, grey for its color palette

5. Sandstorm Planets:
The picture below is a moon, but its a good example what can be done to sandstorm planets too:
Moon
The keyword here is: Diferrently colored areas, with a seamless transitional between the areas of the planet.

6. Gas Planets:
They are nice and the color range on each one is well thought out, but what im missing:
For example pure BLUE gas planets, which consist of nothing but various shades of BLUE.
The same goes for red gas giants, green ones, grey ones, and what not.

7. Ice Planets:
They do already come in many and stunning variations, but still: Add even more and different geotectonical variations to them, and they sure will be godly to look at. In my point of view, the strongest wow-effects can be produced out of the ice-planets, if done properly.
Example:
Ice Planet 1
Ice Planet 2

8. Summary:
The w-space Backgrounds match perfectly with the new planet graphics. Scrap all the old nebulaes and replace them with the w-space nebuales for dominion. You can still add the new nebuale that you are going to design for the k-space lateron. But in the meantime we would be saved from the ugly current k-space nebulae.

I'm not a fan of eye candy. The patch for Sisi is 654MB which must be largely graphics.
I would much rather have more options in the client to disable current graphics than more intensive graphics added that the EVE client is required to load and display.
I wish the developers of EVE could understand we want the game and client improved and fixed but we don't need more graphics. Almost all long time customers of CCP playing EVE never see any ship graphic unless they dock. The bright clouds in the 'sky' hinder play by obscuring the poorly lit active modules. Moving sphere surface graphics from multiple warp disruption spheres drag down client performance (known sometimes as lag). Loading capsule graphics and automatically adjusting the client view when your ship explodes helps you lose your capsule.
Graphics kill. If this is not the case please remove client options to disable effects and all graphic content settings. Also audio options should be removed. Leave everything on. The decrease in complexity of the option menus will help all players. == Support fixing the EVE UI |

maybe you should play in the system map mode, so you dont get any eyecandy anymore.. well at least, you should say "we dont need more graphics" i like the new graphics very much and the game is also about its athmosphere and its experience...

Most likely because there's a HUGE hurricane/typhoon swirling across a good portion of the planet? I like it.
