Howdy,
Can I get some feedback on this: link.
Yes, I did have way too much fun making that. Just an idea to create a one-stop shop for functions on EVE that you would find in the right-click menu when you click on an empty area of space, and when you right-click you're ship. If enough people think it has potential I will work on improving it with your input, then maybe we can propose it to the developers. The main idea is to create a menu that feels a bit more sci-fi but is also as functional as the current menu.
There are several other things I was going for:
Large buttons so you can click them easier; I always find when I'm in a hurry I miss click the buttons on the right-click menu.
Six directions; up-left and then up takes you to planets, up-left and up-left takes you to stargates, up-left and down-left takes you to stations and so forth. Once you've remembered the movement you won't need to even think about it.
User customisable layout; if you don't use a particular button you can replace it or move it.
Just a note, the menu would be hidden until hovered over the centre (unless you chose otherwise), linked image shows several all over the place but that was just so I could show it expanded in different ways.

nice man, looks intuitive and fast - the right click menus have such issues being so fine and such, and this layout seems much easier to use. Also, the way interfaces are going these days, the future is touch-screen. Definitely a forward-thinking approach.

It would be so cool to have a more icon based menu structure.. the current listing system while efficient is very unelegant and repetative
if you have repetative funtions that require scollint through multiple tiers in the right click menu, it can be so frustrating
for example ratting, it would be so nice to have a "next belt" and "Previous belt" option. but thats another idea entirely
Please CCP make the UI more intuitive and easier to follow
Also a bit more scifi visually, wouldn't hurt :)

It could be set so the next belt location and the previous belt location appear in the same button position every time, which would be like having a built-in next and previous button, same could be done for all types of location. As well, it might be good to have different menu setups for particular tasks such as missioning, belt ratting, pvping, to streamline the menus for your current needs.

Maybe try to insure that the "next" interface, however it will look like, will be usable with multi-touch technology.
it will be standard soonÖ

If you can bind keys to each of these action points then i would definately like to see something like this. Eve-au.com News Reporter |

Edited by: nardaq on 18/11/2009 07:13:00 its a nice concept
But that menu is one of the first thing i "disabled", when i started playing eve. (where is the option "disable"?)
Because, i had to many "miss clicks" when i was rotating the view and excellently did some unwanted actions.
i prefer more shortcut key binding

I agree and there are already keyboard shortcuts for most of the options in the right-click menu, which I would suggest adding to if anything. It should definitely be left up to the player. I think something any massive multiplayer game needs is to be highly configurable. So that you can choose to only have visual buttons in there that you actually use or, if you only use keyboard shortcuts to do every action, to disable the menu completely.
My initial suggestion is more about the visual look and mechanic of the UI then about keyboard shortcuts. On the subject of shortcuts, what I'm all for is using keyboard shortcuts in conjunction with the visual aspects. Meaning wherever your cursor is located, or whatever it is hovering over, changes the result of pressing a keyboard shortcut. I think a combination of both would greatly increase ease of navigation. Of course, you should be given the choice to use either or both.

if you get a chance, you should come up with a complete mock UI, and make one big thread that integrates all the elements you've come up, I must say, I love the 'sci-fi' interface, it seems like the current eve interface is Windows in Space.
here are the ideas I had for the UI their not as good as your but maybe they'll provide some inspiration. feel free to use anything there you want. __________________________________________________ All Glory to the Goat Gods! |
