I have been doing invention for shield modules, like Invulnerability II. I have done 4 where I used a meta 0 module and got 100% success and 12 where I didn't use a module and got 33% success. I have all the science skills at 4. Does anyone have the real probabilities?

This should help you figure out the success rate. Fly safe

Thanks. Meta 0 don't help at all.

Unless you like losing ISK don't use items at all. It's a complete waste.

I suggest that you need to work it out in each case. Meta 4 increases success percent substantially, and is in some cases worth it.

Some items like T1 1MN afterburners cost 3,000 isk. Even if the difference is small, it DOES increase your success rate without increasing the invention cost. So you end up gaining more isk...
It's a case by case question.

T1 = meta 0 Meta 0 = no increase
Keep wasting ISK.

Try setting up buy orders in busy stations for meta 3/4 items below the average market value. You will be surprised how many people sell loot without checking the value of the item. If you can get them cheap enough then you can increase your success rate and decrease the cost of the job. Good luck Admiral

My meta 3/4 items are free (cheap) because I bought them via low priced buy orders! Nevermind the babysitting of the orders involved...
This is actually a gray area, since t2 items usually sell a lot quicker than meta 3/4 items. Still try to consider the costs what you would get from a sell order in whatever nearby trade hub you're operating from and see if it's a profit to use one even then. If it's not, consider selling the meta 3/4 item itself.

Exactly. However you get them, those meta 3/4 items have a value and if you would make more money selling them on the market directly than the increase in profit from using them on your invention jobs, then you end up actually reducing profit by using them for invention.
