It's the same thing as when you fill up the reply window, at some point the text will scroll up after each character you type. Dunno why, just seems to work that way.

That point is after 4000 characters. It's an intended feature.

The search feature used to be very powerful, flexible, everyone wanted to use it, the epitome of usefulness. Then CCP decided that it was too useful and so it got nerfed so it would be more useless. I hear the Dominion expansion is going to install an isk sink into the search feature if you want more functionality out of it.

A good way to search the forums is searching like this:
"salvage drones" site:eveonline.com
That way you tell google to only search the eve online site 
Loads of other keywords you can use for google but that one is great. You can use it on a domain aswell like: site:.se - so that it only searches through swedish domains for example.

There's this little button in the IE8 window called "compatibility mode", I suggest you click it.

There is no EVE forum search. The "search"-box you see in the upper right corner is for the whole EVE Online website, not just for the forum. Which is why when you try to find a forum post with it, you get devblogs and short stories as search results, instead. An extension of the "EVE is a sandbox"-concept: You search for your toy soldiers, but all you dig up is cat poop.

Well maybe, but they seem to have stopped the spam mail so credit to them for that. WOW are getting it now (the Wii one) and I suspect they had a considerably higher budget to deal with it.

The EVE forums haven't been updated for IE8. If you want to get it to work right, use the "compatibility mode" button next to the address bar to get the editbox to function normally.
