How many of you will be getting a Supercarrier once Dominion is released, if for no other reason than 'just because you can'?
I've never owned a Mothership before because I didn't want one of my characters to become entombed in a Mom. But now since we're going to be able to dock them and use them just like a conventional carrier, what's holding anyone back (besides the cost possibly) from utilizing one?
For what I use a carrier for (transportation mostly) a supercarrier is better in almost every respect (save jump range). It can haul more, hold more, and fight better than a regular carrier. I think we're going to see a massive proliferation of supercarriers fairly quickly, particularly with their reduced build cost/requirements.
How do you think this will affect the battlefield? We're already seeing large numbers of Moms spider tanking. Will this continue to scale upward until we're stuck with impossible to break spidertanking mothership fleets?
While the new changes will make things easier for me in the short run, I'm wondering if the changes will be best for the game in the long run?

Weren't CCP saying that docking them would require a specific outpost upgrade? Did that change? I haven't been following the super-emo-threadnaught all that closely

Well
There was this
Originally by: CCP Abathur A few quick updates:
Supercarriers will not be docking in Dominion. If this ever happens it will be the result of a very expensive infrastructure or outpost upgrade.
The Hel has had its hit points adjusted to reflect a primary shield tanking role.
All Supercarriers have had their base jump drive range increased from 4LY to 5 LY.
But then Abathur got tucked away in the basement or something. I'm guessing they threw away the key
Originally by: CCP Nozh Hey,
The changes on Singularity now, are intentional. The drone control units are however broken at the moment, and are being fixed.
New stats for "Compact Citadel Torpedoes" (launched by fighter bombers):
Explosion Radius: 3500 Explosion Velocity: 45 Damage Reduction Factor: 6.5 (magic number) Damage: 3600
Super carrier build cost, reduced by 40%. Estimated build cost around 5-6bn.
What we want to create is an anti-capital ship/role, which is more effective than dreadnaughts against moving targets. They can currently reach 7200 DPS (9000 DPS on the Nyx), provided they are fitted for damage and are being supported by fellow pilots. To put this into perspective, the old motherships used to deal 2000 DPS, 2500 DPS (3125 DPS on the Nyx) with drone control units, additionally they've received a huge hit-point boost. The main advantages everyone seems to be overlooking is that Super carriers don't need to commit to a battle like Dreadnaughts nor do they have to be stationary while dealing damage, and of course the fact that they're immune to Electronic Warfare.
By fitting drone control units, pilots are increasing their damage potential greatly while sacrificing survivability. It becomes a hard choice, but being capital ships, they should reach their maximum potential when working together as a team.
There is currently a devblog in the making which should clarify the big picture a bit.

We've made some further changes to super carriers after taking your feedback into consideration. It's quite understandable that the changes made were a disappointment to many of you, but I wanted to remind you that Singularity is a test server and all changes, even these are subject to change.
Compact Citadel Torpedo Changes:
- Explosion Velocity: 60
- Damage: 3200
Super Carrier Changes:
- Can deploy 2 additional Fighter or Drone per level
- Can dock at stations
Furthermore we're looking into solutions to reimburse current mothership pilots for the drop in construction cost.
That's all for now.

This.
It's weird to see all of seleenes finely crafted plans thrown away by nozh, the same guy who brought us the largest ragestorm ever by proposing the carrier nerf twoyears ago.

I'm thinking the docking bit of the dev poast is a ccp troll just to annoy the moar vocal members of the mom club. However if they really do make it dockable then sure thing I'll get one.

If they let them dock? Ill prolly get Aeon and maybe Wyvern for alt. Cheap, better than faction battleship (even with best fit), hard to catch, able to gank on POS or play docking games in lowsec. What else would you need from ship? And with recent EHP boost you need like 100 dreads to actually hotdrop it and kill before it can redock :)

LOL i love this thread. its either a attempt to say "yeah its a good change look at how many will fly" or "yeah look how many your gonna have every where" it does not touch on the fact the changes are fundementaly flawed and will need more nerf's and balancing.

I won't be buying one, I'll be buying two.
Nyx and a Hel, as I've always wanted both, but again, can't be bothered to pay for two extra characters to hold them when I won't to go do something else on this one.
The cost changes are a bonus but doesn't bother me so much, neither do any of the other changes, I don't really care and all the whines are hilarious but make them dock and hell yeah I'm in.

Think of all the poor SC-alts that no longer has to be active in order to sit in the ship when they dock... they will be quite bored... possibly even cancelled!!

CCP needs to plan ahead.
Most of the talk around super carriers involves people gigglig about docking games. Docking timers need to be looked at now to preempt any such thing. Carriers should be increased slightly, dreads more so and supercarriers most of all. I'd like to see a 5 minute aggro timer on docking for supercarriers. This way if you want to gank and dock you better be damn sure theres noone waiting for you on the other side of a cyno.
You can RP it if you want, it takes Scotty a long time to get ready to dock such big ships.

There is already a major thread here discussing Super Capitals. Having multiple threads on the same topic is not necessary.

Or sold for a lot less then they used to be worth...
But actually, I will just get another SC for my main, keep my supercap alt in a SC also and dualbox them
Yea, that does sound kinda silly doesnt it? Nicely illustrates the inflation of SCs we are looking at, I will go from 1 to 2 personally, in my corp we will increase from current mom count to then SC count by about factor 10 (!) at a conservative guess, doubt it is much different elsewhere.
Maybe rethink the docking part...
