This really has nothing to do with the game, but in a way it does. I'm working with a few friends of mine and modding a game by the name of Freelancer. I came across your Orca model on a website downloaded it without really knowing it was The Orca from Eve-online. I was told that from another buddie. So My question is, CAN we use the ship in our mod? I do not have the real Eve-online texturing for the ship as in the game here at eve-online.
Also I'd like to note, After going though the models that I have got from random download sites, I also have a passable Drake, Caracal, Cormerant, Raven, Rokh, Charon, Kestrel, Condor, Ferox, Phoenix, and the Orca. I have zero textures for theses ships and will use the Freelancer skin textures If allowed to use them.
Also this mod is free from charge and I will credit the ships to the rightful owners of CCP. I do not know if theses are exported from the game, If that is even possable. Or if someone took the time to painstakenly make them from scrath. Eather way I'd like to ask for permission to use said ships to avoid any troubles later down the road for me, and my fellow moders.

You have my permission to use the Veldspar, but really doubt you have CCP's, in other words my permission means nothing.
While the answer most likely is no, you're better of petitioning this than asking on the forums which to 99.999% has post by the users rather than CCP itself...

There is no petition category for it really. Better to send wrangler a email and ask about it. If he doesn't know the answer, he knows who to ask.

Well first off I'd like to say Bravo! I look forward to seeing that mod. I will keep an eye on the appropriate forums and sites for it.
For specifics.
It a free mod. So you are not a commercial venture.
You got the meshes in public domain.
Your a modder and thus not worth suing as you are a basement dwelling, jobless geek who spends all day writing game mods.
So while it's the polite thing thing to do to ask if you can use their meshes, I don't see that there is much they can do if you go ahead and use them anyway.
There are already Star Wars and Star Trek mods and I don't see Lucas Arts or whoever owns the Trek franchise going after those modders. I see it as advertising that CCP doesn't have to pay for. As long as you credit the models properly, everyone wins.

Yeah, why slave tens of minutes with even basic 3D modeling skills to build up a basic EVE-like starship mesh, when you can run industrial espionage instead

Paramount was at one time pretty well known for sending legal notices to modders demanding the end of projects involving Star Trek copyright material. Not sure if the same was done with Lucas arts.
Never saw one go to court though. Generally it shouldn't be an issue since one of issues in a copyright infringement suit is who is/isn't profitting from it.

ccp already gave the go ahead for a homeworld eve mod, so ask them you never know you might get a positive result.

Yea I reamber that, I wonder if I would be given the go ahead to make an eve-online version for Freelancer. It is much like Eve-online in game play. As you control one ship and can trade from system to system, go fight npc's, or even become a pirate. So a total conversion to a eve online ships can really easly happen.

As for the mod, I have not started it yet, as I wish to get permission before I start anythng. BUT if thinks go as i hope they will, I'll make each house one race, and then change all the current pirate factions into the proper pirate faction that are within each race spaces, and mod weapons that are close to what we see in eve. I'm not going to be able to do beam weapons at all, But I'm sure I can make do with what I have and easly make missle lunchers and the guns. I'm also most likly going to be doing all the work myself so it may take a year for it to come out. And I promise now. If I'm allowed to step forward with this project. It will not fade away like the Homeworld mod did. I will keep you all informed.
