Edited by: Neuronai on 17/11/2009 00:12:23 Apart from the Dominix and Ishtar which can launch a full rack of sentries, the Myrmidon and Vexor seem a little...Out classed by the other race's respective ships in fleet fights. Sure, the Myrmidon and Vexor excel at small gang/solo PvP but the limited use of less than 125mb bandwidthed ships is annoying me. We all know sentries are the best bet for a drone boat in fleet fights, but when you're flying one which can't effectively use sentries (75mb ) what are you to do? Because we all know how long it takes scout/heavy drones to get to each target and most of the time they're dead already! Personally, I just take a Harbinger out. But that conclusion seems a little sad :(
It's probably all part of the balance, but it would be nice to get a Myrm out for a fight flight and use it effectively..Oh, and is it me, or does using railguns to do well in fleet fights where blasters are ineffective not achieve much? I'd rather use a pulse and load with scorch

Droneboats can be great anti-support ships.
Aside from that, not every ship can, or should be effective in every situation.

Not all ships are SUPPOSED to be good in all situations. Called flavor.
See: Caracal solo (fail) and Vagabond as a sniper as examples.

Edited by: Hoodat Bee on 17/11/2009 01:39:09 T1 cruisers will never be a big player in a fleet op. The more ships in the fight, the greater the advantage of heavier ship classes.
Also, lest we forget, sentries and heavies are bs class weapons. Vexor and Myrm can already field the heaviest sub-bs/hac drone setups, so they're pretty powerful as is. And don't forget that as drone boats they have an enormous amount of "on field" versatility, with the ability to shift between limited ewar (hornet ec-), dps (2xogre,2xhammerhead,1xhobgoblin) and anti-tackle (5xwarrior) all in the time it takes for their drones to come home and the next wave to head out -- and all without using a single slot. No non-drone ship can manage anything like that.
And if you feel like your myrm would be more effective with lasers, go with lasers. It's just as viable with remote reps or all out neutage as it is with blasters, pulse lasers or projectiles.

If drone boats were as good as turret ships in fleet fights there'd be no reason to fly any ship other than a Dominix...ever

I don't get why there aren't medium sized sentries.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

Isn't this already true? The Domi can almost everything well, at BC prices. Snipe, BB, logistics, nuet, even decent ewar. Sure it is not the best at anything, but it is pretty good in every role not needing torps or missals. ------- "Because the Dominix is the Chuck Norris of Eve!" |

Domi is not so great at warping near the enemy POS/fleet, aligning and sniping before warping out.

This is a different topic, but I agree.

Just stick some valkyres II and somemodules to increase your drones speed (yess they do EXIST) Same way other ships have to dedicate slots to achievec their full potential, but drone uses are not used to think like that.
Put 2 droen speed modules and your medium drones will zap trough field coverign any range of medium weapons fairly quickly.

The question has answered itself.
How much dps would you get on a battlecruiser/cruiser class ship with 5 sentries?
EFT suggests 450 dps with 5 sentries. EFT suggests that a myrm with 3 sentries and 6 250mm railguns will achieve 500dps. which considering you're range.. is quite considereable.
It's about scale, the vexor also does large amounts of damage with guns and drones.
The vexor achieves 500dps too.
They may have completely nerfed their tanks but it clearly shows the dps on 75m3 launches with 3 sentries is considerably more than you're giving credit for. -------------------- "this is the templar fighter used by carriers" Originaly quoted by Shania Eria.

There once was a majectic class of ships that was very effective in fleet fights using both AI commanded 'drones' and piloted 'fighters'. You may never have seen one though, they are extremely expensive and rare and a prized asset to any fleet. Some of the veterans may have told you stories about these behemoths, these..motherships..
