I was wondering how people feel about this subject. For as long as I can remember, I've heard pirates cry about having no targets - and a common counter to this is that lowsec is overfished. Perhaps sitting on a gate gankcamp killing 100% of passers by has deleted their pool of targets in the long run? Consider if gates could only be camped a fraction of the time - then there would be more targets of opportunity?
I've also heard many a tear regarding blobs. Does anyone other than the FC of the blob have fun in these situations? Would the fights be more fun if there were some mechanic to limit numbers?
People complain about the outpouring of ISK and loot from highsec L4s. If this influx of income were dilluted, would the game be better for it?
My mother always told me, everything can be good in moderation. Are we gorging ourselves on the virtual feasts available in this game, only to find ourselves either sick and bloated, or addicted and craving ever more delicious morsels of pleasure to content us?

What you suggest is very unsandboxy and unlike EVE. Moderation is a good thing, but CCP shouldn't be the one deciding when people have had enough.

Most of us regular eve players have these thoughts you've written going around our heads on a daily basis, especially about blobs.
However it's not like we haven't talked about these things many times before and in your case you've brought pretty much nothing to the table in your OP except state questions.
All very well asking for ideas but when most of us have the idea we tend to post it anyway.
Personally I avoid fights with more than 100 people involved, major lag and zero fun.

Greed is the fuel that keeps EVE running.
You can't nerf greed, and nor should you. It would kill the game we all love to hate.

You know, what you say is true and I can't really disagree with you there. But... I have a problem when say, for example, gatecampers camp a gate 23/7 for months on end until they devoid the system of targets and then come b**ch and moan on how CCP should do X and Y to hi sec in order to bring more targets into lo sec. Of course, they never truly state their intentions (more easy targets to pew pew). Their whines are always in the form of "hi sec is too good" or "hi sec is too safe".
This to me is also not within the spirit of Eve. But anyway, just wanted to expand a little on what you said. If things ended at that then it would all be fine. But after scraping the end of the barrel for fish, they usually follow up with whines for more free fish.

Moderation does nothing as long as people that actually go to lowsec use scout ships the pirates can't catch. Truth of it is I have yet to see a gate that is camped anywhere near 23/7...or for that matter actually has ships on it for more than an hour unless there is a pos bash going on in the system.
What the pirates are asking for is a way to get "dumb" people into lowsec that aren't ready for its challenges and can't figure out how to get around them. Lowsec is not "overfished" The problem is that the people that do go there often know how to avoid gatecamps, and no amount of changes other than the removal of gate guns and allowing the use of bubbles would fix that in pirates favor.
What I'm saying is the pirates that complain about that need to go to nullsec.

Does anyone in WoW have fun during a 40 man raid other than the raid master?
The game mechanics are different in EVE but sometimes people prefer being cogs. Nothing wrong with it.
If you want to break blobs apart you need a new game mechanic weapon like a smart bomb like weapon that does more damage the more ships are together.

Well considering only about 3 losec gates (that don't border a 0.0) are camped often I'd say no on example number one.

People will always fly together and try to gather numbers. You couldn't reduce the number of people in a fleet, lets say to 50, people will just create more fleets and still all fly together. There's no other solution than making it boring and it already is, big blobs only catch bigger blobs.
Anyway, there's really not that many pirates camping gates in lowsec, they usually roam in 5-10 man gangs or go solo.
