Edited by: Bud Johnson on 17/11/2009 19:44:25 Agony unleashed has a pvp classes. You can see the enrollment info here:
Also you can join red vs blue (cant find their recruiting page...) which are two corps who are constantly at war and live 2 systems apart. I think they also have rules of engagement to keep from blobbing each-other.

Alternatively, just fly out into 0.0. Eventually someone will find you, attack you, and maybe ask for ransom before podding you. Or you'll get your face melted off and end up in a clone vat.
The quality of lessons learned vs. ISK output is probably the same as, if not better than, paying some player to hand hold you.

First learn to travel. How to stay alive when defense gangs are chasing you. Especially how to run gatecamps. Know when you can get past a camp and when it's better to jump back out the way you came in.
Learn to make sniping spots, unaligned spots 230km off gates and stations, scan spots about 100,000km off gates and such.
Get a rough idea of what each ship can do EHP (tank) and DPS (gank). Size them up quickly and know if you can take them or need to scoot.
Learn how to disengage at will. This is probably more important than killing IMO.
It's *ALWAYS* bait. That doesn't mean don't engage, it means plan accordingly. |

This being EVE, i think you are more likely to be scammed then taught anything (unless you chalk that as learning experience ). In my opinion anyway, nothing beats experience when it comes to PvP. Just grab yourself a stack of your favorite frigates and go lose them.

Save your money. Get a bunch of frigs fitted out and go join Red Vs. Blue. http://rvb.tech-pc.com/
The best way to learn is by doing.

No expert here, but I tried that PvP training thing -- maybe it works better for you than for me, but the big problem I had with it is that it's very unlike "real" PvP (no twitchy fingers because you don't need to worry about losing your ship and pod). I tried the lowsec-with-frigs, problem there is that with low SP, unless you get really lucky, all you learn there is how to escape, often without your ship (a valuable skill, but not very rewarding).
I think a nice way to get into it is can-baiting or flipping in a very busy system. Buy a couple of mining cruisers, set yourself into top belt, and at first just go nuts and attack anyone and everyone that flips your can; it'll teach you about other ships capabilities and once you munched through enough ships it'll take the "omg red stuff shooting at me!!" panic away. If you manage to blow something up, chances are high that they'll be back in something bigger (use the scanner to figure out what exactly -- if it's a ship that hopelessly outclasses yours they're wannabes, feel free to convo the others and ask pew-pew related questions; chances are you'll get good advice).
And you'll learn the most important part of PvP in Eve: patience =).

I love this idea! Just sit there, look vulnerable, then go ape-**** when someone steals your can even if you're hopelessly out gunned.
If nothing else it will give can-flippers pause when they say that miners are spineless.

If you're going out to 0.0 to learn, that is.
(never thought I would say this about a goon but) This is well and true
But i have to add one thing, according to me the most important thing is to have somebody to share your experience with, join a corp, get a friend or something. Space gets a lot less dark whey your two

Also depending on how much you want to pay Agony Unleashed courses are a good deal for getting some solid fundamentals. Their classes have lots of reading, a good lecture followed by a roam to put everything into practice. |
