1. COSMOS. You've apparently completely given up on this, since you're canabalizing the name for your Facebook social network. What happened to our extensible mission architecture?
2. Alliance logos. I understand the person in charge of this had some time off. This feature has not worked for nearly a year now, maybe Applebabe could stop moderating the forums, and start working on the massive backlog of logos?
3. Sound. You screwed up the sound big time with the Apocrypha expansion. You said you were aware and were working to fix it. When can we expect functional sound again?

That, in and of its self, is a reference to "The Money Pit" staring Tom Hanks. --

The cloaking/decloaking sound has been broken for over a year now. For this, CCP is utter fail. Nothing else they do will compensate until it is fixed. Let me repeat, CCP YOU FAIL FOR NOT FIXING THE DELOCAKING SOUND THE NEXT WEEK LET ALONE OVER A YEAR LATER.

SOUND
Sound isn't unfinished or broken; its there and it works. Its just extremely lacking in both quality and variety, since it hasn't really evolved from where it was when the game launched.
The sound overhaul you mention is just an engine upgrade, and its not even the first time that has been done. The same problems with sound exist with the Trinity graphics engine: they remove old limitations and introduce new technology but two years later we still have relics of the DX7/8 era because they can't author new content at a respectable pace.
COSMOS
The original goal was to paint the empty canvas of EVE with unique local content. For empires areas it started out as a single constellation where the main focus is in-space agents. For 0.0 it was gas cloud harvesting and booster manufacturing (there is some in bordering lowsec areas too for snyth boosters). There were some other ideas thrown about too, but it basically stalled because CCP realized what a monstrous task it would be to create unique content *everywhere* and then constantly balance it. COSMOS is a great vision/ambition but enthusiasm can cloud reality, so now everyone has to settle for much less than what was discussed.
Oddly enough, even though the word COSMOS applies to something completely different now I think the level of integration and functionality they want will also fall short of ambitious expectations.
LOGOS
The alliance system is currently used for protection against war declaration more than anything, which is why you have thousands of them. Even without that, there are no real drawbacks to creating one and there would be hundreds 'just cause'. That is way more than the two dozen or so CCP originally estimated and why the custom logo system was not sustainable.
Its wholly unrealistic for CCP Applebee (or whoever) to somehow sort that mess out alone. In a perfect world they would code a better ingame logo generator to work on both corporation and alliance logos at the same time.
OTHER
You missed a lot. Almost every "feature" in the game has an area where improvement or expansion was promised and it either never came or came at such a slow pace that nobody noticed or cared. Every time I hear them say something like "we are going to introduce this in a limited way for now and watch how people react so we can build up and expand later in a good way" - I know its usually just a cover for not being able to do more within the given time and resources.
That isn't to say things come out bad or lacking, they just focus way too much on hyping expansions by either adding more features or making changes that always sound great on paper. You could do an expansion where nothing was hyped, no new features were added, and every change sounded boring/trivial to an outsider - and it could still end up being the best expansion ever.

SOUND
Sound isn't unfinished or broken;
I'm in a mission, firing lasers. I don't change the camera angle, I don't change sound settings, I don't retarget or touch any modules.
Half of the time the laser sound will play, half the time it will not.
How, exactly, is that not broken?

Edited by: DigitalCommunist on 18/11/2009 03:30:51 I can only report on my own experiences, space friend. In the rare case that I turn on sound, it works fine for me. It just isn't worth turning on.
No doubt many bugs in sound exist, but the same could be said of any other aspect of the game. And arguably its not even noticeable or relevant when a sound that should have played arbitrarily chooses not to.
Originally by: Higgs Bison Actually, in a perfect world they wouldn't discontinue a service with absolutely no notice. Since they are still claiming that the online submission is "broken", they obviously have some commitment to the process.
This is even more true since the TCU will project alliance logos. Currently, this means TCUs will just be hilarious monuments to CCPs failure to serve their playerbase as advertised.
So you want them to announce every case of hindsight? Good luck with that.

CCP feels this post warrants a 14 day forum ban. LOL. Apparently, they do not feel it is okay for their customers to voice their opinions or concerns.

Yeah, the Mega Pulse Laser IIs on a 4-speaker setup (for me) do not always play the firing sound, but they always play the hit sound -- at 100% volume.

Although the sound may still be horrifically bugged broken and of very poor quality when it does chose to work, I am thankful to CCP that firing my turrets with audio enabled no longer crashes my machine and causes an automatic restart. |

The usual problem with release cycles. If it doesn't get finished in time it's never going to be finished :-/ Probably even worse with scrum (guessing) unless they assign some sort of cleanup team that works on the remaining issues of the last cycle.

The legacy issue in this game are endless, I could list but I don't have all day.
Most games companies like to have a feature website up for an expansion at least 6 months before release. CCP is the procrastinating teenager at exam time of the games development world. Case in point: less than a fortnight before release the dominion feature page still isn't up not only that, the apocrypha feature page still has incomplete sections in it.
If I was a senior director of marketing in CCP, I'd be embarrassed.

SOUND: summed up perfectly
COSMOS: on the nail though I'd summerise it as CCP's idea's factory is born to be driven by ADS push's.
ALLIANCE LOGO's: Sad they dont do custom's nowadays, sounds like a nice part time job given its a isk sink.
Basicly well said (as usual :). Might explain IT alliance's poor logo

Originally by: CCP Abathur | 2009.11.18 ...we want to again say that the new sovereignty system we are introducing is a very big first step in what we want to be a continual iteration process. The upgrades we are making available in Dominion are just the beginnings of a system that we plan to expand upon...
