I'm getting close to being able to fly a crow so I was looking at Battletech loadouts and I noticed alot of ships with Warp Disruptors and Webifiers. I wonder if thats really useful since you want to orbit around 20 km with the WD, Seems like if you wanted to use the web you should just mount a scrambler and rockets and go down town. Anyway, is there a good reason for the webifier I'm missing?

43 reads and no replies, I'm guessing that means I was right about the webifier, but it got me thinking so I went to eft and made a short range tackler crow. It does 700 with the mwd off, 5047 with it on. Does 102 dps ussing caldari Navy ammo, has the webber and a scrambler. Think it can live down town or is it doa?

Just because you can orbit at 20K doesn't mean that you should.

Seems like a tracking disruptor or sensor booster would be a better use of the slot to me.

The thing is, depending on the situation, the time it takes for you to close the range with only a scram will lose you targets.

Oh I'm a fan of the warp disruptor don't get me wrong, I think you take the interceptor inside 10 km and you're just asking to be scramed and webbed yourself and thats just quick death. This looks more like something I would try. Cap stable at 4777 m/s and everything running.

First, let's get something straight: the Crow is horrible. It has abysmal DPS and explodes as soon as something looks at it funny.
However, it can fill a tackling role rather well. The cap mod makes you look silly:

Phased Monopropellant I Hydrazine Boosters Warp Disruptor II Warp Scrambler II

Generally you do want to stick to a 20-24km orbit and just keep a point on the target. The scrambler is very situational: use it to get other interceptors off of your ass and to tackle other fast movers when the FC calls for it. Don't go out of your way to use it otherwise.

If another 'ceptor has entered scram range it usually means you're about to explode horribly.
If you want to make something slower, the webber is the better bet since it has longer range and multiple webs are better on a target than multiple scrams - if you're moving slower than a target you have webbed and you're flying an interceptor, there are larger problems present than what tackle mod you fitted.
The web is actually better at preventing scram-ceptors killing you than the scram in any case, as I shall show:
Taranis - dual prop OR Claw/Crusader with Scram + MWD: He has a scram, you are faster and have a web. Overload it; he gets webbed and is slower than you even he's overloaded his MWD. Unless you were heading straight for him, chances are good that you can turn and burn away.
Any 'ceptor with an AB but no MWD at all: Enjoy your free loot and make sure to bully him into the emo rage-quit he so richly deserves
Taranis - scram + web: You're screwed.
Try not to melt your webber before you're safe though or again, you're screwed. In general though, avoid flying the Crow. If you can ONLY fly Caldari then stick with the Raptor for tackling - it's better at it and it's cheaper - bring a Caracal or Blackbird if you aren't needed to tackle - both are considerably more useful than a Crow.
More nano's than overdrives is correct though - agility is king for a 'ceptor. Putting the 'irate' into 'Pirate' |

An intercepter doing a tackling role, has 2 jobs.
To prevent the target from warping AND to slow them down.
If you're in a tackling ship, and you can't stop the target from moving quick, you've failed at your job.
Having a web or scram prevents the target from getting enough speed to escape. --------------------------------------------
