Agreed.
It's better to give new players useful info than to feed a troll. And in a way it's better, because we both expose them as a troll and inform the community, so everybody but the troll wins.

Yes. If you look at a post you suspect belongs to a troll and can see a point in commenting for the sake of any new people coming along - that is worth while. I've done that.
I guess it's a judgment call as to when you're doing something useful and when it's time to just let it go. Here, a lot depends on what's already been said before you get there.
The other thing is ... the trolls (specifically the ones who are good at it) aren't always that easy to tell from someone who is just an idiot. I'm not talking about people who are just ignorant of some aspects of the game or are simply adamant about defending their views. I've probably spent more time than I should have defending some point I was trying to make and I'm certainly ignorant of a lot of aspects of the game - but there are some people who are just idiots. They aren't trying to be a troll - they're just to stupid to see beyond their own POV. These are exactly the kind of people the clever trolls are pretending to be in the first place - hoping to start an argument and waste some more people's time. I could probably call troll on someone every day if I was inclined to do so but after a while ... it gets to where I don't see any point in it. Especially if someone else has already called them on it.

The blatant trolls aren't the problem - it's the subtle ones that are so good at pretending to be morons that they suck people into wasting their time on them.
If CCP really wanted to get rid of these people - they could do it. They can see the posters IP's. They can know if the same person is cycling accounts/characters. But - unless the person becomes really bad in the things they say, as long as the troll is only out to waste peoples time - rather than say things that are politically incorrect - CCP isn't going to do anything.
Of course ... I'm just compounding the problem by even talking about it. Nothing makes a troll happier than to see someone take some time from their life (which they will never get back) to comment on trolls ... 
In the end of course, it's kinda like ... being a troll is it's own punishment. Anyone who is so screwed up as to gain amusement from simply wasting someone else's time ... has already done more to themselves than I or CCP could ever do to them.

Like I said ... this isn't going to do any good ... I can't PROVE this guys a troll - but he sound exactly like the same guy that's been doing this for over a year now.
