I have been playing around with making my Tengu unprobable:
[Tengu, CURRENT unprob] Caldari Navy Ballistic Control System Caldari Navy Ballistic Control System Caldari Navy Ballistic Control System Warded Gravimetric Backup Cluster I
Pithi A-Type Small Shield Booster Republic Fleet 10MN Afterburner Caldari Navy Invulnerability Field Caldari Navy Invulnerability Field Conjunctive Gravimetric ECCM Scanning Array I Conjunctive Gravimetric ECCM Scanning Array I
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Scourge Fury Heavy Missile
Medium Warhead Calefaction Catalyst I Medium Warhead Rigor Catalyst I Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
Tengu Defensive - Supplemental Screening Tengu Electronics - Dissolution Sequencer Tengu Propulsion - Fuel Catalyst Tengu Offensive - Accelerated Ejection Bay Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
This has a sensor strength of 160 vs a 215m sig radius - which gives a ratio of 1.34. How probable is this, its quite a bit above the 1.08 target ratio, so I suspect its pretty easy!
If I switch to CN Scourge ammo instead, it drops to a sig radius of 157m, with a ratio of 0.98, however the DPS drops 10%
If I overheat the Scanning Array's, I can get the sensor strength up to 209, which with the T2 ammo gives a ratio of 1.02
However, I have never trained Thermodynamics on any character before, so I dont really know what affect this will have.
I know that my modules will take damage, but is there any way to see how many hp the modules have?
How long am I likely to be able to overheat something before it needing repair ? My impression of overheating, is its something you do sometimes, not have it as the default state of your modules !
Given the price differential between Scourge Fury's and CN Scourge missiles (nearly 1k ISK/unit) if I can get away with not having to use faction ammo that would be great! (I am discounting the basic Scourge missiles here, since that is almost a 30% DPS loss over the T2 ones)

Thanks, but I knew how to turn on overheating in EFT =)
My questions were more along the line of the duration I can reasonably expect to run the modules overheated before they take too much damage and shut down.
Is it in the order of several minutes, or will they run for an extended period.
ie - can I go to low-sec to do a mission/escalation and run them the whole time I am there, or will they only run a few minutes?
If the latter, then I think the repair costs associated with the overheating will probably be less than the cost of using faction ammo.
If on the other hand, they will only run a few minutes, then that renders the point moot, since that isnt practical, and in these situations I'll just have to suck up the faction ammo costs.

Edited by: Norwood Franskly on 20/11/2009 10:29:05 I'd say don't be a wimp and quit worrying so much about getting probed. I used to run level 5 missions in low sec, it's mostly deserted (this was in Black rise area, just near entrance to cloud ring), got probed once or twice, never lost a ship. If you suspect someone is trying to probe you just dock / hop safe spots till they get bored or fit a cloak like all the 0.0 farmers.
Keep an eye on local channel make sure you have a safespot book marked in the mission system and you should be fine, if you suspect someone is trying to probe you keep spamming the directional scanner, should give you enough warning to align to SS / celestial and gtfo. (unless prober is in a force recon), then you just need to rely on being aligned and you shoul warp before their decloaking penalty.
Also don't sit on the warp in gates at 0.
Flying a ship like that your far more likely to get killed in a gate camp or suicide ganked then to loose it getting probed down in a mission. ~~~

If you overheat the module in EFT it tells you
But yes, a couple of minutes with good skills

Someone made a very detailed post on it a while ago showing what was needed to probe something regarding skills, ship, rigs and implants but my gut feeling says that you're quite easily probable.
In your case I'd use the sensor strength implants (Talon), this will help you tremendously and you won't have to focus your attention/fit/overheating so much on the issue.

And here we have yet ANOTHER tengu thread. There is a big tengu thread and its still active, why dont you try directing your questions there instead of flooding the forums with un-needed threads

But but but you have a 'vested interest' in that thread!!!!
Also; would take effort for people to actually read a thread of more than 1 page. Having said that, as this is a very specific fit/question I can see why he'd want to isolate the answers/discussion.

Any questions about the Tengu are welcome in the thread, thus the name "Tengu thread" Make the Beership a reality! |

The fact it is regarding a Tengu is only tangentially relevant - my questions were really more about the overheating side of things! The fact that the tengu has a small sig radius is really irrelevant.

Where? I right click, and it displays a flame icon, but I cant see anywhere where it indicates how much damage the modules take and how long they will last before failing.

You would probably be better off looking up the items in EVEmon's item browser, information regarding module hp is there. EFT appears to provide heat damage/emission but not hp oddly enough.
Quote: and how long they will last before failing.
You have stated you know how to overheat in EFT but if you look near the bottom of the window you should see a scroll bar, drag that across and you should see the "heat" column.
Hope this helps

Thank you!
I had no idea there was a Heat column there, nor to look for it!
However, having found it, it does indeed tell me what I needed to know.
Once again, thank you!!
