People who would get arrested for doing what they needed to do to get their child under control when verbal instructions failed.

All Dad had to do was take the belt off.
And I hold no grudge.

Have people completely lost there minds? How can a fully grown man have trouble with a 10 year old girl? There is no way that using a taser on a CHILD can be justified and as far as "that taught her a lesson!" what kind of Mental trauma do you think something like this will have on (again) a child.
Note the keyword here being -> Child <-

It sounds like she was on the road to ruin. Maybe this shock (no pun intended) will put her on the right track.
Next time she throws a tantrum at bedtime, all mummy has to do is threaten her with the taser and the tantrum will stop.
Granted, she will probably wet the bed for the rest of her life and suffer black outs every time she sees a policeman, but such is the price of progress. She was given fair warning.

It's ok, the 10 year old will be leeching off the system herself in the next 3-6 years with her own child considering the atmosphere she's being raised in.
Further proof that people should be required to obtain a license to procreate.

That isn't so much a shock. I've heard stories of people calling over worse. There is usually a non-emergency numbers you can call with all kinds of crap without getting in trouble. Hell, at work I've had customers come in and demand I call it because there was someone sleeping at the bus stop.
The question is, what police force sends an officer to a house because someone can't get their 10 year old to go to bed?
The truely sad part is that a parent doing that would be in a ****load of trouble and possibly getting the kid taken away.

And yet the child thought that violence was the solution to going to bed.
And yes, a 10 year old child can inflict serious damage. They have that perfect ratio of having the size to deal damage and the lack of compassion that they are doing harm to another. If you don't know this, you have never dealt with children, or have dealt with them very little.

Originally by: Garreck Tasers are terrific in their compliance utility...they're less harmful than almost any other compliance method beyond verbal commands, and yet sometimes more effective even than a firearm. I think every law enforcement agency should be issued them, and I think a taser in this instance was far more effective and less harmful than, say, an arm bar or some other physical compliance technique that could have actually caused physical harm to a struggling kid.
It's so easy to second guess the use of a taser and say "he should've been able to take on that kid." Sure he should have...are you suggesting, then that he punch a 10 year old? Strike her in some way? Use some submission hold or something? What exactly are you suggesting he do? The implication that a taser is more harmful or a higher use of force than any of the afore mentioned is flat incorrect. Tasers are terrific in their flexibility and application across the full spectrum of force.
This kind of an opinion even on an internet spaceships game board should warrant a RL sterilization for the purpose of preserving the human race.
You should be joined in this sterilization by the child's mother. While i have been belted a few times when i was at that age and in the present being belted is considered harmfull to the child, i'm flabbergasted that a parent would ask for her child to be tasered; are we 60-70 yrs ago when everything even close to be considered weird behaviour was 'admonished' with shock treatements ? --- I smack just for myself. Parenting failure. It's nonsensical to blame the kid when they should have been taught proper behaviour by their parents.
IMO if the officer had started arresting the mum instead for wasting police time the little girl would have shut up pretty quick.

My opinion is based on training and experience; your comparison of taser use with old-school shock treatment is indicative that your opinion is based in flat ignorance.
In your haste to throw insult, you failed entirely to address "what should the cop have done as an alternative?" Verbal commands and soft-hand techniques don't work on a flailing, out of control 10 year old. Hard-hand techniques leave more physical trauma than a taser. So a taser was used. That's what it's for.
*edit* I should be more specific, though: epic parenting failure for sure. I'm not defending the decision to call the police to handle an out of control 10 year old. Parents need to discipline their children, that's not a cop's job. But the cop was called out to handle the situation and he had a responsibility to do so in a way that minimized harm to himself and others, to include the kid. So that's what he did.

Love how everyone just assumes bad kids are a result of bad parenting.
NEWS FLASH - THIS IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE.
Oh, and the fellow that related tasering to shock treatment. Wow ... just wow. Do some research buddy.
