Also it's 100% optional.
Something optional can never dumb down anything.
An FPS game has an auto-aim feature.. only if you turn it on.
Is it dumbed down? Or is it perfectly ok, since its optional?
touche
all I can say to that is I'm wrong.
HOWEVER, this is still different, it's more (imo) the other way around. Like if an fps had ONLY auto-aim, and then added manual aim as an option. that manual aim would not dumb down the fps.
also to the other reply, you can just quit the fleet. if you don't like the fleet, you in no way have to stay in the fleet.
Also it seems like this amkes it more danerous to steal, and that isn't dumbing down, that actually going to create lots of fun drama.

We won't have to scan the cargo of every player in the gang to know what dropped? EVE is surely dying.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

On it's own this addition is doing almost nothing to make eve easier.
It's when it's added to the fifteen million other almost nothings that you realise EVE REALLY IS getting easier, ever so slowly, so slowly that you don't even notice it when you look at it in realtime but if you were to take a year off and come back to the game you'd think to yourself "WTF? It wasn't this easy before"
A comedic extreme would be something like EVE ending up having your ship target and pilot automatically to always be at optimal, PVP is a toggle and the only button is "Shoot" except it's not called "Shoot" because that's too long and not descriptive enough, no, the button is called "BANG!". And it's the spacebar.
This will of course never happen, it was an example but EVERYONE needs to step back, this change may not make the game easier but trust me, the game already IS easier and is continuing to get easier no matter what you believe.

Edited by: Triple Entendre on 24/11/2009 00:13:17 Is the game itself really getting easier? Or just easier to manage and take in?
Since making a new character and starting anew after a stupidly long hiatus, I've been confused so many times by many things, and astounded at the refinements and changes that have been made. But at the core of it, it's still EVE and one half of people still whine and gripe about the smallest of changes and 'dumbing down' while the other half are terrified by the sheer complexity of what they've got themselves into. And that isn't likely to change any time soon.

I just wish they would hurry up and "dumb down" the corporation and industry interfaces so, for example, it doesn't take 11* mouse clicks to put in every single manufacturing job.
[*] Not sure if this is the right number and not in a position to test it... but it's close.

This is true however it seems that the overall difference in ease of use over the last few expansions is much like either getting hardcore killed with a napalm strike from the last patch or only wtfpwn killed by a couple of guys with flamethrowers this patch. No matter what your still crispy toast.

Except you get auto-reinvited to fleet if you disconnect while in a fleet. If you need to ask for an extra invite you can probably bet you'll be on a list of "suspects" that will be scrutinized if some expensive loot mysteriously didn't turn up.

Man it strikes me odd that you wouldn't want the maximum tools to remove as much real world tedium like book keeping etc from a passtime.
Leave the mental efforts for making strategic choices, not struggling over user interfaces, database managment, etc.
Maybe my dishwasher and vacuumm dumbed down taking care of my household ... sheesh! Hell, maybe I should man it up and cut off my electricty.
Heck, if we got all this high tech space stuff, don't you think we'd have some adroid keeping track of the bookeeping stuff for us? They really should have more third party interfaces.. like i've seen in other games so your intent can get what you intend to do done as easily as possible. Rewards should be on your plan and decisions, not abilty or desire to sweat ledgers and key strokes. Like Backgammon not nitendo or microsoft excel skills.

When they finally 'caved in' and announced there'd be a skill queue soonÖ I just knew it'd be the end of EVE, say hello to WOW, level 80 etc etc. While the queue certainly made things easier (and easier being dangerously close to ret@rd proof) it did not make EVE into WOW and I was simply wrong; it's a very handy and logical thing to have, no more and no less.
Same applies to this; sure, from a "harsh sandbox" POV it's never good to be handed stuff on a platter and have game mechanics take care of things that could/should be controlled by players but it's not a game breaking issue in any way, it's just something that makes life a tad easier, not worse.
