Hi everyone.
Necroing a little guide I wrote a couple of years ago because YOU TOO can buy Obelisks for 700k like I just did.
CLICK ME FOR HOW TO DO IT
Got me one 3 days ago and the unfortunate individual claims to have quit the game because of it.
Thanks for the ISK CCP and it only cost you a paying customer.
Cheers for your crappy coding, Taikun
P.S. In fact I have bought at least a 1/2 dozen in this fashion. Nice passive income really. Enjoy.

I don't see a problem.
It's known CCP's UI usability is horrible and that in their ancient times they produced horripilant code to the point in *official blogs* they state they won't implement certain features because the old code is so indecent and prone to explode that they won't touch it with a pole. I am sure that if they try change that button, moons will suddenly start producing chocolate or something like that.
It's also known that this is an harsh game, where afking, not paying attention or just being below normal IQ leads to harsh defeats. - Auditing and consulting

Who cares, there are much bigger things to worry about, and hey, as a trader I love it when I get the occasional cheap item.
It's like a rare loot drop on the market!

Came in expecting a lost thread far from home, stayed due to dancing-stapler antics and the profit you can gain from them.
Would read again.

The method you suggest of setting up the highest buy order on a regional level to 'exploit' this isn't really an exploit. It's just a way of getting cheap items to trade. I do something similar myself. Looking at your graph of raven prices you see one ludicrously low value of raven price in an entire year. That's certainly not worth tying up a load of isk for. The act buying at 75m, selling at 85m 100 times during the year makes you far more money. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but you now get that dialogue box when modifying an order as well.
Finally, on the odd occasion someone does enter the wrong price and contacts me to try and recoup the losses on their mistake, I personally send it back. Much as I would like to buy an ares for 1m instead of 10m, the loss of 9m isn't that great to me, but makes a big difference to someone else. Although I might sell it back to them for 2m to make a little profit. Maybe I'm too nice, but EVE contains enough asshattery without me adding to it.

Point taken, if you want to maximise the isk in your wallet that is. I, personally, play the game for enjoyment in general of which making isk is only a part. I also enjoy being nice sometimes. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy. If you don't enjoy being nice for the sake of it, go ahead and keep their money, I perfectly understand your point of view. I just don't hold it.

I remember browsing the old contacts system and reading "Charon" freighter contracts, actually containing one unit of Carbon.
Ah, nostalgia.

Well, I got screwed like that only once, will always remember to check twice... But I lost only 200m so not really bad. And to my personal satisfaction, I found the guy while he was hauling the stuff he got from me for the silly low price and blew him up with my alt :)
Didn't get it back, but still, it was fun like hell... CCP doesn't prevent scams, but it also doesn't prevent revenge. So I guess everything is fine :)

Even though I didn't lose any money to this I'd appreciate a change of this. Yeah, of course you have to pay attention, and maybe they could even code it in a way that the taxes for the sell or buy order are lost when you retract after making a mistake but a potential loss of hundreds of millions for one wrong click is way too high. Have a look at the price history of Iteron V industrials in the Forge region, 10 (!) were sold for about a billion each in the last year.
Furthermore the "cancel order" button shouldn't be right over the change order button, costed me a some millions in taxes...

Hey, guess what? It's no different in the real world of trading, be it stocks, futures, bonds or options.
You hit "OK" on the sell/buy order and you get the price that you should have confirmed before doing so.
As said prior. Working as Intended.

and how much time does that take???
I mean to fake contracts or orders and spam them in Jita... with 314987 competitors.
maybe on the same time you could have grossed your wallet by 200millions doing missions.

Time taken? 5 secs... maybe another 5 secs once a week to ensure I am top dog on the 'buy orders'. Doing this crap is passive income and pays for two of my accounts alone. Anything else is just work.
Contract scamming Jita is moronic and time consuming. Mission running... hell why play a MMORPG if you are going toss about alone on missions. Naaa this 'game feature' is MUCH more enjoyable. And as pointed out by CCP and my guide... working as intended.
The bonus is it make others quit the game and CCP loses their paying customers while I buy PLEXs and continue on free of charge. LOLZOR!

IN any regard thanks for the tips on training marketing skills! Hope they leave things the way they are for the near future.

This makes it seem as though you actually enjoy actively annoying people. Is that true? It works as intended, you are right, you're buying low and selling high, good job. However, it takes me more than 5 sec to check I'm on top and change each order every week. Care to share your tips for speeding up the interface?

5 sec per order.
1. Obviously save the products in a seperate folder list. Makes checking each one much faster. 2. Use a standardised weird ending isk fractions like... .99 or .57 that way at a glance you would know if it is your order or not. I also use 40 jumps on my order rather than region. It's another differentiating feature. 3. Don't screw around with the 0.01 isk game. Slap your orders up by 20-50 million each time. Remember that these screw ups wont pay what your buy order is. They pay what they type in which is usally something stupid like 700k.
If you set it up right... 5 secs per order and you can go back to playing the game or napping etc.

Could you clarify what you mean here please? Where do you put them in a folder? I've always worked by checking my orders in the wallet then right-clicking 'view market details'. Then I use similar methods to what you mentioned to see if mine is on top. If you have to change the order I think 5 sec is still quite ambitious. But maybe you have a faster computer than me. I take it you simply right click your order in the wallet and 'modify order'? I'm still prepared to learn new interface ricks all these years on!

You can r-click items in the search market list window and add to quickbar, then create folders in quickbar, think that's what he means.

was my guess too, but I don't think that would be any quicker than using the orders tab of the wallet and r-clicking 'view market details', so I thought I might be missing something.
