Wondered through a couple of wormholes and found a system with 2 sleepers' sites. I'm new to all this scanning-WH business so I just "boldly went" to have a look. Found some frig sized sleepers who did not hesitate to aggress. After I'd killed warp scrambling crowd some more and bigger sleepers appeared so I thought it would be prudent to say my goodbyes and warped out with just a few mil ISK worth of salvage and loot.
I was in a passive Drake with HAMs - not ideal setup as one top slot is taken up by a probe launcher, a middle one by an analyzer and a low one by a CPU to keep the blasted probe launcher going. HAMs (6x) were plain vanilla Terrors and were sorta killing the little guys reasonably quickly. The questions is would I be better off with EM damage - the sleepers ARE drones... of a sort.. hmmm..? Or shall I stick with Kin and 10% hull bonus on their damage?
Another question would be if the HAMs are a better option than plain heavies? They do more DPS but it's rather unnerving to sit and wait while little evil buggers get in range...

There is no best damage type. I think sleeper reistance is 70% on all. I found in class 3 the sleepers often hang out at 60+ KM. With HAMS I often could not get into range. ______ How to Passive Shield Tank T2

Sleeper are omnitanked. Use whatever gives you best DPS. With a drake stick with kinetic missiles. Also range is an important point. Some sleeper tend to go far away OR stay close...these little bastards sometimes switch their range... I prefer to go the fleetway: One drake (or more, C4+ RR BS) + a salvager/hacker (Hurricane with cloak/probelauncher/Analyzer/Codebreaker/MWD/3 tractor & 3 salvager or switch one salvager with resi ganglink) The drakes get fitted for max tank when in fleet, in a C2 and easy C3 Sites add some BC. I use T2 Launcher + faction ammo (T2 Ammo is just to bad. In fact i didn't hit any sleeper for more dps then with plain T1 missiles) and a core probe launcher if one drake get left behind as WH collapse or worst case scenarios. If you want to stay some days and also would like to clean the gassites use a orca or carrier (Orca get lot of cargospace and refitservice, carrier can transport replacement BC'S/BS, both could carry a covert ops for optimized scanning). For longer trips use a POS. Also check the sites in the resource threads. For most sites the triggers can get identified before you kill them. Nearly all anomaly's spawn 3 waves, each wave stronger then before. Best C3 site I had was a radar site with 5 waves, all together 24 frigs, 16 Cruiser and 12 BS with 4BS in the last group alone.

Unless you're doing a magnetometric site there's no point in fitting an analyzer. And if you are doing a magnetometric site you probably ant to loot the cans before killing too many of the guardians. New waves often spawn when you wipe out a class of ship (like all frigates or all cruisers) so you can thin down both groups to decrease incoming dps whilst you loot the site then kill them for bounties and salvage if you like.
You are using a core rather than an expanded launcher? Core launchers have much lower fitting requirements. You can also offline the launcher when you aren't using it which should let you skip the cpu (especially if you mainly scan with a covert ops then return with a combat ship and the probe launcher is just in case the wormhole closes).
