I have a research/industry alt that I want to get flying a transport. He has minor Amarr ship skills, but it would only hold me back a day or 2 to go some other race. Who has the best transport ship for a toon with very little shield/armor skills.
All other things being equal, I will probably go Gallante to get Inty V on the way.

You are in luck. The Amarr transport/ blockade runner has the largest cargo bin with Tech II cargo expanders and rigs.
Armor and shield tanking skills are a non factor. Your defense is your cov-ops cloak. Jump into the system, hit warp to the next gate, as soon as you uncloak simply recloak and you're gone.

*shrug* wouldn't want to touch the impel with a barbecue fork as long as there's iteron V, which doesn't have the huge weight and thus align time.
the only nifty thing gallente doesn't have is the two high slots on the prowler (minma runner) - putting the gist back into logistics |

The Iteron Mk 5 isn't really useful considering you can get almost the same capacity with an Occator. And an Iteron Mk 5 is a gank magnet, never carry more than 75-100M worth of stuff at once.

Need more input.
Do you want a deep space transport or blockade runner? They are not all the same.
Is your goal to survive 0.0 bubbles camps or avoid being podded by a lowsec BS smartbomb camp?
Do you plan to use it to can flip or support a cov ops gang? Do you just intend to transport valuables through high sec and want to reduce exposure to suicide ganks?
There are many options and reasons to choose one over the other.

Agreed. You need to fit the Prowler for agility and speed. At that it is the best of the lot. Then you don't need to worry about shield or armor. And if you fit any Blockade Runner with more than one cargo increasing mod or rig then you probably deserve to lose it.
Additionally, two high slots means you can take the Prowler into wormholes and be able to probe your way out.

I want something to move stuff around in null sec. Or hisec during wardec. Mainly moving things from the system I rat in to a system with a station. The more I can haul and the more securely I can haul the better.

In hisec the best hauler is anything flown by a three-hour old NPC corp alt. This will get your stuff from A to B safer than anything flown by your player-corp hauler during a war.
Bestower is best up to level 3, Mammoth best at level 4, Iteron at level 5, then you get into Transport ships: Prowler or Prorator for blockade running, vs Impel for sheer carrying capacity.

Minmatar has the best t2 transports (and tied for the best freighter as well)
The Prowler is fast and the most agile BR (5.3 sec align without mods/rigs), carries enough for any trade runs, and is the only one to have two high slots so it's usable in W-space.
The Mastodon can carry 30k+m2, which 2nd only to the Impel.
Furthermore both Minmatar t2 transports have no resist hole in their shields, and thus are perfect for shield buffer tanks. If you fit the impel out for 36k cargo you might as well just use the itty 5, it's made of paper, whereas the Mastodon can be sufficiently tanked (without any obvious resit whole either) at max cargo capacity.
The Fenrir freighter is the fastest freighter, and is by some calculations the best freighter because of this.

Prorator is the largest capacity BR, however fit for cargo it is also the slowest and least agile BR, which makes getting out of bubbles tougher. Of course you don't have to fit it for max cargo, which is another advantage of the Prorator.
I went Caldari myself, as freighter capacity was more important to me. My Crane has 10,241 m3 though.

You specifically mentioned that you have low shield/armor skills. Since you can't risk getting hit, Prowler is the way to go. It has the fastest align time, which is critical to getting away from teh gank. Fit it with a MWD and nano's for escaping bubbles. It can be tempting to go for inertial stabs, but that blows up your sig and makes you easier to lock. If you do get locked, you can't cloak. Not always a problem, but it could get you killed if you run into an interceptor gang that can deploy multiple bubbles. Side note: it is the only one with a second high slot, which means it is can fit a probe launcher. That would make the Prowler the best choice for WH space. |

Really depends on how you fit them.
Cargo capacity wise they are unimpressive when fit for max cargo, but they have the largest base cargo.
They also can be fit for the highest EHP thanks to their mids and Caldari being shield tanks, which doesn't use low slots that are valuable for cargo expanders.
