With some recent discussion about drones, the mystery behind the rogue drones, the possible to link to Worm Holes, the sleepers, and the drones' propensity to collect Isogen, I would like to bring this to light.
This image, taken a few months ago, shows a strange drone appearing momentarily next to a rogue drone. I was sent by SOE to clear these drones out and they continue to plague many systems.
It was a bit tricky getting the camera drone to record this image, because this mechanical entity was apparently phasing out of view. Whether this was some sort of failing cloak, or perhaps some kind of cross-dimensional presence, I do not know.
Somehow, between this image and the other factors I mention, it all seems linked, but beyond that seeming part, I don't know.
After the rogue drone was destroyed, this entity appeared to be hanging around it, but was gone once I approached.

Camera drone glitch would be my guess. That or those pesky rogue drones are growing smarter. All the more reason to reduce them to scrap metal as swiftly as possible.

Highly disturbing.
Yes, there is a clear and present danger here.
When I return form planet-side duties, we will talk. There is much we need to discuss.

Edited by: Ghost Hunter on 26/11/2009 20:48:02 It is a visual 'bug' in the Camera drone.
This is usually caused by small groups of Autonomous Drones being destroyed together before the Camera Drone has the ability to process the information. It is a relatively simple malfunction that occurs more so because the Camera Drone's software cannot handle it. Occasionally secondary sensors might be confused as well until a local reset clears up the cluttered data. ______

How can a glitch come up with something that the camera did not see before? Glitches come in the forms of ghosting, freezing, double images, blank out, choppyness, and sometimes the camera drone sits there not looking at anything.
There is no way that thing can be a glitch. It does not look like anything that the camera has seen before. Unless that was one very creative glitch designing a whole new detailed image on its own.

Camera Drones themselves do not have a persistent memory of everything ever recorded, if my memory is correct. It is also important to note, that in computation that if an equation demands something whose values are improper, the glitch, it will produce an awkward result, the image in the picture.
Thusly, in this instance the Camera Drone most likely is trying to create an image for you that it is having difficulty defining. Once it reaches a result it can give you, it would send the product to you. As far as its programming is concerned, the task is done.
I have encountered numerous versions of Camera Drone related mishaps due to their rather expendable design. If secondary sensors tell you nothing is there, then the Camera Drone has encountered a glitch or other malfunction. If secondary sensors confirm any kind of readings, then the Camera Drone's imagery is valid.
The question is, have your secondary sensors registered anything? ______

The overview did not reflect this.
After that drone was destroyed, the entity did appear again, seemingly doing something to the wreck. Not sure exactly what and it was gone by the time I got into salvaging range.
Exhibit B
There is NO WAY this can be a glitch.

If secondary sensors cannot confirm its existence, then there is one of two possibilities.
You will need to supply more information on the situation leading up to your encounter with it if I am to determine which possibility it is. ______

Basic drone hive clearing was the situation. SOE sent me there. Had to earn their respect so I could trade in probes for some of those special ones they make. The mission was to seek out rogue drones and destroy them all. Simple enough.
That drone - the one with the entity near it, was the only drone that appeared normal, like a basic Gallente type that we all use. The other drones were the typical rogue drones we are used to putting out of their misery.
I could understand if the rogue drones managed to find a means to disguise themselves with holograms and tried to pass themselves off as our own drones. That would be nasty if they could pull that off too. Imagine if one of those got into your drone bay. But of course considering that drones have only half the intelligence of a slaver hound, that would be expecting too much. So much that I doubt they are trying to generate holograms or "sensor ghosts". I would expect this to be a sensor ghost, like when you see ships on the overview that are not there, but again, I never saw such a thing so detailed, symmetric, and purposeful in movement. This was no glitch, and no sensor ghost.
After that one normal looking drone was destroyed - and it only looked normal - the Friend or Foe identification in the overview tagged it correctly from the start meaning that the rogue drones cannot fool this mode (yet) - the entity was on the wreckage. Why that is is not known. Was it looking for something? Perhaps retrieving something? Maybe whatever it was it was carrying out an experiment on the drone, or maybe it was programming it.
It looks like a big bug. There I said it. And drones are found in "hives" and their behavior, especially in blue star systems and their isogen collecting habits, is very insectlike. I have brought up before, and will again, that there is some kind of insect-like intelligence behind this.

This is a very clear and present danger and it is one that will only get worse in time.

Some of the structures I have seen have led me to believe that there has to be a controlling intelligence behind the drones, or perhaps a colonial network of intelligence. In any fact they seem to have a emergent system coming out of them that I am sure their Gallente creators did not program into them (while we may be at war with them I have never seen the individual Gallente as stupid). I for one am worried about what they could someday become if they complete their mysterious projects.
Jokingly one of my Corp mates and I spoke of what would happen if the Sleeper Drones that we have recently encountered decided to copulate with the Rogue drones in our own space. Seeing as the only reason that we have not been overrun by the sleepers is their seeming inability to deviate from their programing (something rogue drones do very well it seems) and their inability to produce more of their numbers (as far as I can tell sleeper drones do not build new sleeper drones there are just huge numbers of them from the time of their creators whoever they were... then again perhaps I am wrong most of my studies of sleepers is while hoping my shields hold out).
I have not seen an entity like this before and I can certainly hope that it was some kind of fluke either by your sensors which may have been enlarging some other image or perhaps accidentally sending a signal from some other source. The drones are a nuisance at best at the moment, but if they truly begin to refine themselves more perhaps we have something to worry about.
