So when exactly did the last nullsec capship fight over an outpost last only 3 minutes?

This is a MMO so truthfully you can have those battles but it depends on one thing the players.
Granted it will never look like it does in the trailer but then again just like a war movie and any other battle in a movie it looks incredible and glorious when they are done but the reality of it is a lot different.

Well then the trailer is pretty effective.
Trailers are not actually meant to demonstrate gameplay. Or show you what you can do in the actual game.
Although, in fairness, if you got enoug RPers together this trailer is rather realistic.
Veal, murder. Baby Carrots, healthy snack. Food hypocrisy at work. |

Basically it comes down to the weapon systems and how they work.
In EVE, they are 360 degree weapons. You can hit someone from any direction. Sure transversal, speed, and so on make a difference, but basically we hit from any angle.
In the trailers, you tend to see formations(Which we don't have yet), with smaller nimble ships always firing forwards(like a fighter jet does today) with the Battleships firing broadsides(like the old wooden sail ships used to).
This makes the movement in the video's a lot more exciting. I mean really. If you saw a ship hightailing it AWAY from the hostiles, while firing, sure it looks ok, but it's not nearly as pulse pounding as when they are diving on an enemy all guns a blazeing.
In EVE, distance and transversal mean more then angle of attack. And it makes for boring looking fights.

Try being in a Real alliance and then you'll get those battles.

While the details might be different, the trailer did remind me a lot about the last big battle in TP-RTO during the droneland war.
Stop whining and enjoy the idealized view of EVE for what it is.
