Just a heads up to everyone about this:
http://store.steampowered.com/early-holiday
A new set of games are having their prices slashed every day and most of them seem to be pretty recent A+ quality titles. Run my children and give valve your money so that Episode 3 might come out faster!

already got that THQ pack earlier for 50 bux, so far sorely disappointed by dawn of war II, but overall seems like very good value for the amount of games in it.

Are those prices only for today? When did the promo start? Seems like some good offers...can't believe the price of DA:O on there, and they are A grade titles. That THQ pack seems pretty great value. Does it have all the WH:DoW games/exps? Seems to be missing Stalker: Clear Sky tho. Is Far Cry 2 worth it? And what happens on steam if you get a package that contains a game you already have? -------------

Edited by: Tara Moss on 26/11/2009 10:35:39 Just bought Dragon Age: Origins for 25% discount.
Also got Osmos for $2. What a little gem of a game.
Anyhoo, when Steam says 1 day only they tend to mean it so you'd best hurry if you want in on the action.

You can gift the 2nd copy to a friend who has steam, it comes up with a little 'gift game' button after you install the game.

I have two copies of HL2 and there will come something up, that you cannot miss in the games tab, a button of some sort that lets you transfer it to anyones account. Pretty much straight forward.

Thanks Tralna and TRD. I went ahead and got Osmos, GRID and the THQ pack, but despite owning Saints Row II already before today, nothing has appeared on the games tab to give any indication of that. Will keep my eyes on it and Email their support if it doesn't change. No point in letting it be wasted, would rather give it to a friend. So much gaming, not enough time The THQ pack at least is a great offer....whole lot for less than the price of just one game by itself. I forwent Far Cry 2, couldn't decide if it was worth it. Oh well, let's see what the other 4 days have to offer! Originally by: Xanos Blackpaw How hard is dragon age: orgins on the computer? mine is oldish but i can run things like eve and oblivion...fallout 3 work good to.
Oblivion, and F3 (which I beleive uses more or less the same engine) aren't particularly intensive for current gen GFX cards, and Eve not much more so if at all. DA:O is current gen in every way so will tax an older GFX card if you have it set to high. There is room for playing with GFX settings however so I don't doubt you'll be able to run it, you might however have to lower a few things. But take my word for it, it's a great game that's well worth buying particularly at the price on offer. Hell if I had to I would build a PC just to play it on. I paid ú40 for it as a pre-order (and ú35 for Champions they're selling for ú12.50) so it's a very good price. -------------

Also, one very important thing about Dragon Age: Origins- It is currently suffering a horrible memory leak. After 1-2 hours of play loading times start taking forever and the graphics get a lil choppy sometimes. Tabbing out of the game for 10 seconds and back in fixes it for me and is faster than restarting the whole game. So if that happens, its not your computer being underpowered, its just an annoying memory leak bioware is trying to fix

Based on the great fun that Mass Effect has been that I got for $9 off steam I went ahead and got the deluxe DA for $47 especially as one of the armors can be used in Mass 2 which I will definitely be getting.

Negative! You can only do this for a couple of the Valve packs, like the Orange box. I bought the THQ complete pack, and already owned Saints Row 2, didn't get another copy to gift away unfortunately.

If your really wanting to give a friend that extra copy then contact steam support seeing as you did pay for it. They were very helpful in getting my three guest passes for shattered horizon when they didn't show up in the gift menu.

Get it! It's really good. It'll shock/startle a little at first but after a while you'll get the Doom III effect where you stop being surprised after a time. It's nicely atmospheric tho and plays well, along the lines of RE4/5. The limb thing is novel and takes surprisingly little time to get used to...and every now and then you'll still instinctively aim for the head...
It's not a chilling, finger down your spine horror like FEAR, much closer to the RE style. Dammit, I think I might buy it now for PC despite having it on 360 already... -------------

Hey now I'm taking breaks every so often to watch Serenity / play TF2. I just bought L4D2 and currently shoping for a good monitor.
Anyway, back to losing my life. I want to buy ME2 for PC, since I seem to like it better on PC than when I had ME 1 on my xbox, but I want to continue my save from that game :( ________________________________________________

I played one level on Easy, it was actually challenging (I was getting back into it, and I played the demo). The physics used to make wounds on zombies depending on where you shoot them and with what is beautiful. I like using an axe and looking at the giant gash in a zombies chest with blood squirting out. Each of the special infected are unique and best part, not so overly hard. each one has a quirk to killing it.
The Defib is a great tool to have, no doubt, being able to res a teammate before a tank fight can save your hide. The boomer vile grenade is the most hilarious, throwing it on a tank or other common infected and watch them chase each other.
The textures on each of the zombies have darkened exponentially, and it is sometimes hard to tell the difference at distance between the zombies, so you'll have to go by ques in the soundtrack or vocals.
I played only one game, so I'm no judge, nor am I a critic. We'll see if it was worth it, but I'm glad even if it wasn't, it was a good 25% less of a hit on my wallet, and it is christmas. ________________________________________________

Aye I got confused, there is a 14 day normal trial going round and the steam 21 day trial I think it was conformed in the other thread that you could use the 21 day trial and upgrade to a full account getting the first month free.

Total steam noob here... Do you have to pay subsciption fees just to continue to have access to games you purchased? I get it if you are playing eve and other games that already charge subsciption fees.
Take for example if I bought that THQ pack with a boatload of games in it... Would I have to pay a monthly fee to continue to access those games on any computer or would I have able to access them for free indefinately? or at least until the rapture.

If the game you buy is some kind of MMO or subscription based game you will need to pay any subs to keep playing the game after the time packaged in the deal expires, if its a normal game like the ones in the THQ pack or something like L4D2 you do not need to pay anything extra as the steam client is free.
You do need to carefully keep your steam account info though as all games will be tied to the account you purchased them on, once you have games on your account you can download them as many times as you want or need for no extra fees (unlike some digital purchase services )

Follow up question as I'm scouring the steam site for all info, I can probably get an answer get much faster. The subsciption fees will be prominently displayed prior or during purchase I guess? The only subsciption game I saw was FFXI and I didnt see a clearly displayed fee or notation.

I couldn't tell you tbh I have never bought a sub based game from steam but I'm guessing once you buy the game from steam any account management after would be via the games developer, like if you bought EVE you would get the steam deal and then once the 30 days is over you would have to pay CCP via credit card or plex.
It probably depends on the game you buy as to how the subs are managed either via credit card or game time codes via 3rd parties.

I don't think Steam displays the monthly subscription pricing during the process. When you buy an MMO on there, like Eve, PotBS or CoH, you get a month free a key to create a new, full account and the game added to your Steam games list.
Beyond installing it from there however, updates to MMOs are thru the game client. Also you need a seperate account, like your Eve-O account for the game. I purchased CoH two days back when it was on offer just to get it inmy steam list. I gave the key to a friend who also subs to get the freebies and log in as I did before. -------------
