If you are looking to update your operating system and considering geting windows 7 you will need to buy windows 7 proffesional or ultimate to be able to run all your existing software including EVE as WINDOWS 7 HOME WILL NOT RUN XP OR VISTA SOFTWARE so please bare this in mind when considering. Please let people know if you find a work around. IA now recruiting |

eh?
I haven't yet found a program that my Windows 7 Home installation will not run.
If you are running something really old that needs the XP virtualization mode, then yes you will need the higher end versions of Win7, but if you run mainstream stuff, then you dont.

All versions of Windows 7 are completely backwards compatible with Vista. Assuming 32/64bit is correct. If the developer of the program designed his program wrong to be locked to Vista or XP that is his fault and not Microsoft.
Windows 7 is also very backwards compatible with XP. I have yet to find a progrma that does not work with Windows 7, any version. What you seem to think wrongly is XP mode. This does not function like you would expect. It is instead a Virtulization of XP and i see little point in it unless you are using legacy applications from the early 2000s or late 90s.
The ONLY thing Windows 7 cannot run is 16bit applications as support was dropped. But they are really old applications and the jump to 32bit was made a long time ago. ------------------------------------- Don't click the links or even the forum topics. |

I have to agree with previous posters.
I have not found any programs that did not work, except some older antivirus ( and that was on Vista ) and some overclock tools that communicate in a more direct way with the hardware. But there are fine alternatives or upgrades for these. Some games did not work out of the box, but after setting XP or Vista compatibility and if needed "run as administrator" I got everything to work.
If you want to run old DOS games, you should check out Dosbox, an awesome little program that lets you run about any dosgame with current hardware, pretty awesome. You can even install Windows 3.1 in Dosbox, and thus have 16bit compatibility :p
To the OP, show me 1 program that does not work on Windows 7, and I'll give you a solution or a free alternative :p
p.s. Windows 7 Ultimate or Professional won't help you run any serious game better. The emulation lacks good quality sound and graphics support.
p.p.s. Okay I'll admit, I have currently 1 issue with Windows 7, and that is that the Evemon relocation is not working anymore so I have a small edge whrn running EVE in windowed mode. Looking to find a solution, some others reported it to work.

Confirming, that everything runs fine on Windows 7 machines and that the OP has no clue what he's talking about.

Edited by: Decadre Solydius on 01/12/2009 12:30:49 What he is saying does have a bit of truth to it.
For example; I have a Netgear SC-101 Network Storage device, and Netgear in their infinite wisdom never supported it under Vista 64-bit.
Now that I am running Windows 7 Pro, I can create a virtual XP OS within my Windows 7 OS and use the infernal thing again.
And this Virtual XP mode is only available under Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate, AND only if you have an AMD chip or an Intel chip that supports virtualization.
With that said, I've been playing Eve on my Windows 7 PC with no problems since Windows 7 launched.
