Not sure what to do although i'm doing a full download for installation again.

Try clearing or temporarily renaming your cache folder to see if this resolves the issue.
If not, please get a logserver log of your client starting up and file a bug report.
We'll be able to assist you better with the info provided in the log.
Bug reports can be made here and more info about logserver can be found here.

Edited by: steveid on 01/12/2009 21:09:29 it basically is still active and just hangs. I've tried renaming the cache file and this has not worked. Would you prefer a log report or the dxdiag info as it doesn't allow me to attach both.
nvm, found a way to add two files. Inappropriate signature removed. Zymurgist |

I never had before, go to your CCP directory, there should be a Logserver thing. Hit open new workspace, and just start up eve, and it should start spamming you with information. Maximize the screen to see it properly, and just copy and paste.

I have the same problem. I get the dominion logo up for a second, the screen goes to black as usual and the music comes on but then nothing else happens and it just stays on a black screen until I have to close it. I've tried just waiting it out in case it was just a slow load but nothing ever happens. I'm running the game on a laptop but my girlfriend is also using a laptop and it works fine on hers...

Same issue: Initial flash, music, black screen....and HANG.
I did a full download just to be sure and it seemed to fix the problem, but then i went into settings to make EVE run with the lowest graphics possible (just to make sure it ran smooth) and now i have the same problem as before (after the reboot for the changes to take effect).

Well after 6 repair sessions I had an error appear on loading that I had some extra files in the CCP Folder which were alut.dll and wrap_oal.dll. It told me to reboot which I done but it didnt remove the files so I manually deleted them and voila it all started working. Bloody annoying but eventually I got there in the end. |

I don't get the BSOD, but do get the black screen. I deleted my settings and such, and now it ONLY happens when I attempt to change the graphics settings, which makes the game unplayable for me. So I can log in, add a new skill to the queue, but can't undock or do anything else without unbearable lag. I have to run everything on "low" and changing this setting screws the client up. Extremely frustrating.

Ok so for those with the black screen issue: Try this- it worked for me as long as i did it in this order 1)Run repair (came up with nothing bad but bear with me) 2)Immediately go to the cache and delete the entire sub folder 3)start eve..accept EULA
For those that had it crash when they tried changing settings: First do not change more than one setting at a time before hitting apply and do not change your shader quality until after changing the LOD and texture first. Changing the Shader first resulted in a crash and then the black screen crap.
Not sure why the order of things matters...but after several hours of fiddling I am back up and running. Good Luck!

Tried this. It's specifically the shader quality option that causes my crash. I was able to switch the other two with no trouble, but shader quality made it freeze. Thanks for the help, at least.

After playing around more I have found that if you disable eve-voice (after you get logged on) before you change shader quality it helps with Eve locking up...and thus having to start all over again. Additionally you can switch shader to medium first, close the setting screen, then go back to settings and change shader to low with almost no problem. I also turned off eve sounds just to run as skinny as possible for my first undock.... didnt help. I froze almost instantly once undocked and had to play this whole game over again. Still have yet to load while in space.
Incidently, I also just found out that I am unable to close Eve without having to run the whole process over again.
So I guess you can still play eve as long as you dont undock and dont mind changing the settings everytime you log on... or pony up for a new shiny computer lol

Logged mine with logserver reports. 87538
In the middle of filling a bug report , but here is what I did to correct the issue immediately. Alt-tabbing still crashes it and changing the shader puts me back to the black screen o' death. No fix for alt tabbing though
Since I got the black screen o' death from the beginning, I couldn't clear the cache from the GUI. Renamed the entire Eve folder under my profile (this is VISTA)
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\CCP
Renamed EVE folder to EVE.old (you can probably go into Eve and just delete/rename the cache folder, but meh)
That let me at least get to a logon box.
=============================
Full writeup of steps tried:
- started exe and auto patched - prompted to reboot, did so immediately - started client, the application does not crash, but sits at about 200K memory and 50% processor and then reads not responding. - Via task manager, kill process. - Browsed forums - saw suggestions for other issues was to remove the path in the Start In field of the executable shortcut. Repeated all steps until manually having to kill process. Started logserver and captured inital blackscreen logon phase and then killed EVE again when nothing happened on screen. -Ran repair utility. No errors found. -Unable to clear cache through GUI. Browsed to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\CCP and renamed EVE folder. -Started client once again. -Made it to EULA screen, but screen resolution looks to have defaulted back to 800x600. Use arrow key to scroll to bottom and accept EULA. Now at a username/password box. -Alt tabbed out to create last entry, Vista reported a fatal error and app terminated. -Relaunched shortcut. Did not initially alt-tab out. Confirmed I could log all the way in. Game loaded and saw station and corp chat windows. -Alt tabbed out to make last entry. Again, greated with message CCP ExeFile has stopped working. Details from dump -Ran Logserver again to capture errors from alt tabbing out. -Next tried to change screen resolution. Was able to successfully change. However, when going to set options for graphics to all low, once again got a appcrash. Text file included. -Attempted to start app back up again, back to black screen. Included logserver for that event. Went back and renamed eve folder under user profile again. -Back to going through the EULA. Changed resolution to highest again. Saw a post about the shader being the culprit on the graphics settings. Changed the other two and hit apply - no crash. - Setting shader to medium just hangs the app, but doesn't crash it. Going from high to low and hitting apply is an instant crash. - Using optimize settings sets u back to the black screen of death

The auto patcher for Dominion failed for me after downloading and installing, said "logserver" not found?, anyway this is what I did to play.
I went to my CCP/EVE folder and ran Repair.exe it re-downloaded 550 Mb of missing files.
Ran eve, said it was missing d3dx9_41.dll so I downloaded Microsoft Direct X end-user runtime here.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displayLang=en
Downloaded and installed Direct-X Ran Eve and got into game.
I'm Running Windows 7 64-Bit. I think patch is missing allot of 64-bit DX9 stuff because it only includes DX10 from MS and CCP didn't include these needed files in patch.
Good luck!

Yeah, so I'm having the exact same problem as everyone else (splash screen, music, blank screen etc.). I'm sure there's great advice in this thread, but I'm functionally reta-rded when it comes to computers, so can someone explain what to do in layman's terms for me? Like how you'd explain it to a 10 year old maybe (I'm 32 BTW, just computer-dumb)?
All this "cache" this and "server logs" that confuses me.
It would be greatly appreciated, and there may be a nice ISK reward for whoever gets me logged in...

Ditto on it all...have tried the repair thing and it says there is no prob. Tried manual patch install, it won't work cause it already exists (d'oh!!!). Clearing cache doesn't work.
I have the same computer (well, about 8 months older) as my room mate, and it works fine for him.
I am also "fire bad, tree pretty" when it comes to anything too technical, so nice and slow instructions would be great :)

Tilbert-
Did you try logging into your character, disabling eve-voice, and THEN change shader quality to medium...then low? Its worked for me that way, not sure what difference it makes for the client but it works. Still cant undock nor alt-tab/log off without getting borked as far as i can tell, but maybe the logserver will catch something?
I was in the middle of using the log server to go step by step with all the problem times.... but if you already made and submitted some then I am not sure mine will be useful

Edited by: Reyna Al''Zedra on 02/12/2009 06:13:09 Pretty much similar situation to above.
Can launch and run, but if I ever change shader quality to anything but high(the default) it will force EVE into a black screen, and task manager will show it as unresponsive. When trying to restart eve after changing that it will show dominion splash, then black screen, music will go, but not get to login. I can change all other graphics settings without crashing, but having tye-dye ships and other graphical oddities is annoying. I've deleted the cache and settings folder and still same problem if I try to change shader quality, and removing cache/settings is the only way to get eve to work again after changing shader quality. Also did two fresh uninstall/reinstalls and ran the repair.exe several times and no help.
Run a vista laptop, had absolutely no issues prior to patch, and I've done all updates I've been able to in case that was an issue.

I found something very interesting!
I did the cache clearing and all the other stuff. It said none of the files are corrupt.
I tired one by one hitting the reset settings buttons and...
It gives me a read error when trying to clear the mail logs! This is the problem, folks. There is no ETC (mail) directory in the default install, yet it keeps asking for/expecting it. You can't "clear" it because it doesn't exist until you log in and it syncs up.
Catch-22, infinite crash. It also explains why my alt who has no mail at all logs in just fine.

There is something wrong with the mail cache files. Try clearing the mail cache from the ESC menu and check that the hard drive is not full. *** It's clearly a database or configuration issue - someone messed up on CCP's end here. No mail in-game(flat out broken) and the character is nearly impossible to log in as well. The other character(my alt) works perfectly.
Also, on that character, EVE Mon shows -2 billion SP and most of my skills are random. They are fine in-game(correct), though. But it's clearly that something on CCP's end is corrupt or not synced correctly on certain characters. My alt is fine as expected.
yes i can get that as well, so basically does this mean the new mail system is stopping us logging in? |

Ok, I managed to get logged on and working by deleting my settings file. It seems the bug is based on the shader quality, if you change it it does the black screen on startup. I can still change all the other graphics settings but if I change shader quality I have to delete my settings again to get it to work. The only problem with this is that all my ships are psychadelic colours, but I can undock and do everything normally so I'd definitely suggest giving this a try.

Add me to the list of people who can't play. I just get a black screen and then it crashes. I don't know why it crashes and logserver doesn't give me any info that looks useful. My last line says "starting dependencies for audio". I wasn't expecting major client problems like last time so I only had a 3 day skill in training.

First login after patch succeeded but slowed down within seconds and immediately crashed. After that I couldn't login whatsoever.
Deleting C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\d_games_eve_tranquility\cache did not help. Deleting C:\Users\me\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\d_games_eve_tranquility\settings did help!
I suppose it was only some or maybe a few files in there so it would have been sufficient to only delete those and to not lose all my settings, but I was too lazy for that.

Worked like a charm. Renamed the eve folder again, logged on and changed resolution. Booted all the way into character and then disabled eve voice & all sound. Set it from High to Medium and High to low. Worked great.
Now all that is broke is the alt tab.

Confirming that I have the issue where I see the Dominion splash screen and then nothing, but I am on Mac OSX Snow Leopard... indicating this could be a larger issue.
I overwrote with my old Apocrypha installer, didn't have the issue, ran the patch, and again the splash screen -> nothing.
Am currently downloading full install.

I had the same problem as y'all with the splash screen/black screen but I seemed to have gotten it working... but there's an emergency reboot right now so who knows if it will keep working or not, lol.
Anyways, the problem was my driver. I tried downloading some, but they didn't work, only thing that worked was going to start/control panel/devise manager/display adapters/mobile intel(r) 965 express chipset family - note that will probably have a different name for y'all depending on your set up./double click that and select the drivers tab/update driver/search auto for new driver. (make sure u are connected to the internet when u tell it to search)
It searches, finds it, installs it all by it's damn self, lol. You will have to reboot your comp afterwards or the screen keeps going haywire - at least mine did, lol. It's fine after the reboot though.

But that is only half of the issue. Even if your graphics are good(this seems to affect HD/DX10 cards more than older gen ones, go figure), something's off with the database itself. There's no other reason why certain characters should work perfectly well and others in the same account are horribly problematic.

K so I jumped through a gate and EVE crashed
so I opened the client again, got the splash, got to the log in but thought it was odd that EVE didn't appear in the task bar. Anyway loaded the log in screen, typed in pass and hit connect. Log in froze and now I can't even exit the screen :( CCP FIX THIS!!!!

Bolded the bit that seems most important. Forced my client into BSOD, then changed shader to 3 (high)... restart of client was fine (with the exception that my ships look like a 4yo painted on them...such is the case with shader qual set to high). Just have to figure out how to work around the shader quality issue. Going to try the driver from Intel, even though i have to force it because of the manufacturer making the driver "custom". BTW Dell's driver (the custom one) is not based on the most current Intel (actual chip)driver, so if you update from Dell you wont fix any issues.

I figure that's the case with Shaders on high while Texture is set to something low, not just shaders in general. I would think having shaders higher than texture often results in bizzare visuals regardless of game. ---- "Sounds like a bad case of pikal envy, if you ask me."

Actually it doesnt matter what the texture or LOD is set to, at least in my case, if the shader is set to high then my ships look like a VW microbus seen at a Grateful Dead concert...

Originally by: Dewa Tukul try renaming the settings folder ..
I have both re-named and deleted the settings folder, both of which allow me to log-in. Once in, I re-do all my settings to the lower graphics levels to get an acceptable framerate (not to mention re-doing my 5 overview tabs ), but when I logout (or crash out during warp sometimes, to be expected for a few days after a major patch), I get the same splash screen to BSOD the next time I log in.
I have to re-delete the settings folder each time I log in . This is kind of a pain. It's seems there's something wrong with the settings file?
Help me Obi-Wan CCP, you're my only hope...
What's the normal ETA and process for CCP to fix something like this? I've filed a bug report that was filtered quickly, but no reponse since then. I'm curious if there's something I can be doing in the meantime - other than deleting the settings file each time I want to play.

Alright, this should work for most of you guys. I had the exact same problems as you guys with the splash screen showing to be followed by the game crashing and disappearing from the taskbar. Try adding /end /LUA:OFF to the end of your eve shortcut in the target line. This changes where your cache is stored, so unfortunately you will lose your cache, but it worked for me and I can finally play the game.

While I'm not going to emo-rage like this guy, I am feeling a little frustrated at the lack of response from CCP.
CCP: can we get at least a response in this thread (or somewhere) about this issue. It seems that there's a fair amount of people having the same issue - at least tell us that you're working on it, and perhaps tell us how long it will be before it's fixed (if possible).
If there's a problem on our end, can your computer experts tell us what we can do in the meantime to allow us to play your game? I know there are a fair amount of people here who are computer experts, but I'm not one of them - I don't know about ini.pref files, logservers, diagdx stuff and whatnot.
If it'll be fixed in an hour or if it'll take till the new year, I'd like to know one way or the other please. Thanks, and keep up the great work!

Uhmmm, what are you talking about? Personal? Where? You wrote a lengthy diatribe and apparently quit, that seems like an emo-rage to me, and that's what I said in my (much more reasonable) post. Can't say I blame you tbh, it is a little frustrating. Don't know why you were taking this personally tho...
However, calling me a 14 yr old brat kinda seems personal, no? Especially since you follow that statement with a suggestion not to make posts personal. And I really have no idea what you're talking about with the avatar comment? I'd ask you to explain, but I don't want to de-rail this thread into you making random comments and me being (even more) confused.
Tho if we get into a flame war in this thread, the mods may have to pay attention to it for a second to lock it, and maybe then they'll pass it along to the DEV team? I'm willing to try anything...

I am having a similar problem.
I start eve and it gives me the splash screen and closes like normal, however it does not even load the login screen. No blackscreen, no music. It then runs in the background but never opens.
I have tried renaming, and deleting both my cache and settings, renaming EVE to EVE.old, reinstalling, restarting my comp(5 times), putting -window at the end of the shortcut target, repairing, looking for the weird files in the CCP folder(they arent there), checking for viruses(there are none). My computer has more then enough of the specs(in some cases double the recommended). This is leaving me completely baffled.

So i have a simulair problem:
I login to eve and get accepted by a corporation, the alliance windows doesn't load so i relog eve starts i enter my username and password when i press login my pc freezes (this happends often). So i reboot my pc and start eve. I get the dominion splash screen (or how it's called) after 30 seconds it disapears but eve doesn't start. No error.
I try repair.exe nothing found and eve still didn't worked. I tryd to clear the cache file's and start eve nothing happend. I uninstalled eve and redownloaded it installed it and the same problem. I cleared the cache files (again) and it still won't work. I had the problem 2 days ago but i already played before that on the new patch (1.01).
I'm running vista 32 bits.
Anyone has a solution?

1. deleted cache/settings...still broke. 2. removed client and then downloaded again....still broke. 3. realized i had a video and audio driver out of date...updated...still broke. 4. disabled audio...still broke. 5. played with about 5 trillion different combinations of settings....still broke. 6. reviewed dxdiag before and after issue as well as reviewed possible issues with working hardware...nothing found. 7. only times i can even log into a station is when ccp states they have ended my character's session with the server and naturally the geniuses that they are they did it with a character on another account that i DIDNT file the petition with as i just named that character in the petition. 8. they have stated that they were not able to recreate my issue on their computer...well no sh!t sherlock. they state that my issue is literally on my end although i have literally gone almost mad attempting to find something wrong with my system. now they wont respond to my petition so im on my own..

ok guys, i found a fix for me.
Physically move your:
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\
assuming its in the default location to C:\
just go to where the file above is located right click on it and "move to" and select C:\. this cleared up my black screens at character log in and lag etc.
good luck..god knows i was begging for luck last 4 days.
lars out.
p.s. this is on a machine that runs XP Larsonist > i still enjoyed the pew pew though, all the pos sh!t ive been doing lately had me feeling like smeagle without his precious. |

while the rest of us arent able to fix anything, its something to do with the boot process, and re installing doesnt work, so at this point the only thing we can do is either find the .dll that kick starts the program or simply wait for CCP to fix it, being that nothing the rest of us have done works. and thats the hardest part is waiting.... ><

I have discovered an excellent solution to my current problems with logging in. Here's what i did, I reactivated my dormant WoW account and crushed out a Naxx 10-man, and guess what? Not a single problem or bug or lag!!! Muahahah ( flame away)

Edited by: Kuragathix on 06/12/2009 00:47:26 This is random, but I got EVE to run properly, no lag, no problems when I copied my CCP folder from my program files to an external hard drive. I lost all my overview settings and whatnot, leading me to believe that it doesn't go to the standard cache/settings folder when run externally. (Somehow.)
Edit: I also tried just deleting the CCP folder in the program files folder, and only having the EVE folder in there. Works fine too. The standard setup still crashes.

Some odd suggestions out there, but that's what we are resorted to when we can't get direct help from the people we buy the game from. None of them work for me yet, so I'm going to keep starting it up, letting it crash, and sending the report. I also did a bug report, but I really don't expect them to get back to me in a decent amount of time.

Aye, the workarounds really are a pain.
Just to get logged on I have 1.> Modify the settings folder 2.> Logon and disable the eve voice. 3.> Set the shader to 1. 4.> Run in windowed mode if I want to cycle back and forth between gaming and other pc activities.
I saved a shortcut to the settings file so that I can go and change it before launching eve every time. At least now I can get logged on and fly -> but I'm sure as hecht not "playing" until a fix is in place. It's really a pain especially with sov changes about to take place...going to miss out on the initial run.

Why don't you guys try creating another computer administrator account, logging into it, locating the game install directory, and run eve.exe.
Voila. Works every time.

Was the line your client died on the same as this:
4102009.12.06 02:18:33:763starting dependencies for audio, which are: []
That's what I get, everytime as the last line of the logfile. Clearing the cache didn't help, suspecting the audio drivers were at fault I've physically pulled the sound card and reinstalled windows without it, the machine has NO audio hardware or software onboard now, yet the client still hangs on that audio line. I've even disabled the native audio on the mobo through bios.
Could you, or someone thats gotten the client working again be explicit as to what directory you moved to root? moving the \ccp and the \ccp\eve\ folders to C: havent sorted it. Did you grab the eve folder, the ccp folder, did you move settings and cache folders only?

Listen. If you rename the EVE installation folder to EVE_Fix and then go in and load Eve, it will start up the client with default settings specific to your system's config. This is the same as renaming or deleting your cache/settings folders. This is the solution to 99% of those affected by the splash screen failed startup. If this doesn't work for you, try logging into another admin user account on your system and starting Eve on that one. If that still doesn't do the trick, then you've either got a bad registry, bad memory, outdated drivers, missing updates, broken UAC, etc. There could be a thousand different reasons. And a thousand more solutions. Who knows.

Tried this numerous times before and after the windows reinstall. Symptoms haven't changed. It ALWAYS dies on that log server line, despite there not being any audio hardware on the machine. Also, this comp has been running an eve client without issue for 4 years...

Good idea, didn't work though. Originally by: UVPhoenix2 If that still doesn't do the trick, then you've either got a bad registry, bad memory, outdated drivers, missing updates, broken UAC, etc. There could be a thousand different reasons. And a thousand more solutions. Who knows.
Registry, drivers and memory didn't die inbetween starting the Apocrypha client and installing the patch for Dominion, the machine wasn't even shut off in that time. Tried running the repair tool about a dozen times, all other software on the machine is working just as it has been,
Don't mean to pick your post apart, you just make some points that I've run into in working this problem. Would be pretty sweet if we could get CCP to weigh in on this and at least let us know they're aware of this problem beyond just tossing the 'clear your cache' line at people, This problems gone from quirky to mind bendingly frustrating. |

AMD xp2000+ / 1.5 gb of ram, running Winxp sp3, directx 9.0c ATI Radeon x1650 on Catalyst 8.12, the 9.x drivers aren't compatible with this card anymore, Ive also tried third party driver packs like Omega, wich I ran Apoc under, hasn't changed anything. Sound card WAS an SBlive gamer 5.1, currently uninstalled and sitting on top of my printer to try to rule it out as a cause of the audio load failing when the client boots. |

Open up cmd prompt and type services.msc. Then find the service "Background Intelligence Transfer Service" and disable it. Make sure "Windows Audio" is enabled and set to automatic. Then go to C:\Documents and Settings\*user*\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\*install folder location*\settings\prefs.ini and set hdrEnabled=0 bloom=0 and bitsCancelled=1.
Try now.
EDIT: Also:
shaderQuality=1 shadowsEnabled=0 textureQuality=0

Im trying to find a prefs.ini or shortcut switch to totally disable sound in game, i know -nosound or /nosound used to be an option for the shortcut run line but neither seems to work anymore, and I can't find a list of valid entries. |

Add this to prefs.ini:

If that doesn't work, try setting shaderquality to 3.

nope and nope, though the shader isnt whats killing it, i'd bet a pair of dry socks on that, let me elaborate on what I'm seeing when it dies.
double click the executable, splash screen pops up with a 'eve' element on the taskbar and chills out for a moment, now a second 'eve' element appears on the taskbar, this closes the splash screen and its related taskbar element, and the second new taskbar element, this one for the login screen and the client proper, starts to slide over to replace it, but immediately dies, this is usually accompanied by the screen flicking black as it tries to take me to full screen by default. What im certain is happening is that its trying to start the audio for the music you get when the login screen comes up, thats dying, and sinking the whole process, so what i need is a way to disable sound for the client, without getting into the client to do it, cuz i cant. |

Man I don't know what it is. Try turning off all audio hardware acceleration. Update DirectX: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=04ac064b-00d1-474e-b7b1-442d8712d553
Remember you could also try doing a system restore to before you installed Dominion. Also going in your eve install directory, opening start.ini and changing "premium" to "classic" might work.
It could also be a corrupt exe. Try starting it up with just exefile. Try re-downloading the full client and reinstalling it. Enable bios audio. Keep trying different things that may fix it. Even consider deleting explorer.exe and letting it re-create itself.
I'm done posting for the night. Good luck.

I'm in the small group where the Dominion splash screen pops up, and once it goes away to open the login screen, the login screen doesn't open. I've reinstalled, updated all drives, disabled audio hardware ect ect. It seems, people with Realtek audio hardware/software are having troubles (which i have an onboard realtek audio device). This could be the problem, but I don't have the money to buy a new audio card, not in the mood to buy a new audio card (especially when it works with every other game i own), And I'm getting more ****ed by the day that such a thing is preventing me from playing.
Other specs: Dual screen Nvidia 7800 Gtx 2 gig ram windows xp.
could it be the dual screen or 7xxx series video cards or both/neither that could be affecting this?

Have you run the log server to see exactly what its crashing on, that'll be kinda key to troubleshooting your problem |

Originally by: Ferahgo I'm in the small group where the Dominion splash screen pops up, and once it goes away to open the login screen, the login screen doesn't open.

Well, I only have single screen, nvidia geforce 3 (with 3d analyze) and then nvidia geforce 6200, 1.4 Ghz CPU, 1 GB RAM, Creative SounderBlaster Live 5.1, windows XP (7 year old computer).

I've even done the logon as another admin and tried that as well - again, same errors. (even went as far as to rename both admin windows profiles to see if that helps).
It is not that a lot of us can't get the screen to come up if we set everything to high and don't touch the settings, it is that you _should_ be able to set these to low and you cannot. If not, take them out of the game, require everything to be able to run at max settings, and just tell everyone you have to have better systems. If that is the fix, I'll shell out the cash. However, if this is a coding problem or a dependency problem, I don't want to just shell out cash for something that may be the same problem on a completely different system.
Logserver, dxdiag, crash files, etc have all been sent. It's been added as a defect - "Reported by tilbert . This report has been attached to a defect."
While I'm all about going after the last thing that changed on the system when beginning to troubleshoot, I think a lot of us have gone above and beyond what any software company could ask of us to do. Short of buying new systems - even that which I'm now contemplating - we've done what has been asked. It is just the waiting game.
So, if you've done all you can - and documented it all through your logs, there is not much else you can do at this point. Without the code and knowing how the different files interact with one another, a user cannot *fix* this issue, short of perhaps buying new hardware, and that is not even a given (as I've seen the complaints vary from bare min specs to mid/high level specs).
Just make sure you have filed your reports and attached all the necessary logs. Unfortuntely, like most things - you have to show numbers before issues get worked. If everyone files their reports and includes the necessary data, it makes the numbers rise and provides more cases they can study to find the culprit (if they don't know already).
Just going to have to be patient.
As long as I can logon and change skills, I can wait it out.

Same boat as everyone else. Yes I have tried everything in the Known Issues, Yes I have tried everything listed here. Yes I have contacted the manufacturer of the computer. It would be nice if we could get an acknowledgement from CCP that they are either looking into it, or if they are denying the issue and part of this group emoragequits the game and the rest of us go buy new computers and pray it works. Seriously, a comment from CCP, even if it is "GFYS" would be nice.

Same problem, splash screen up for a bit, then just goes black with some music. Tried reinstalling eve, didnt work. Interestingly, deleting the settings file made it work and i was then able to login etc. However, the game crashes when i try and change the shader quality. Also, tried logging back in, game crashes exactly as before, just the splash screen and then black screen with music.
i mean i can login atleast and change skills but i can't fully play. And it would be pretty frustrating if i had to delete the settings file everytime i want to play...guess all i can do is wait and see if CCP responds...
P.S. Also tried the repair.exe, no luck there either.

Welcome to the club Dr3xl. Same. I can delete my settings and cache, but I have to do it every time. I can only stay on for 3-5 minutes before everything locks down because I can't turn down the Shader Quality... time to do some computer shopping... the worst part is... I got this computer for the Apocrypha expansion..

Edited by: Larsonist on 06/12/2009 21:35:03 Ok all those that used my option to fix the problem i apologize. if it has worked for you then awesome. i am having the issue reappear after log off.
When the:
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\
is moved to say C:\ this does infact fix the problem. It fixes it where say deleting and/or renaming the cache file does not.
Problem: once the game loads and im sorta computer stupid so forgive me the default cache file is placed back. Now you have the moved file and the newly placed (automatically mind you) cache file which just starts the process over. i.e. i have to delete the file i previously moved and move the new one...
LOL
CCP ROCKS!
p.s. after doing this the other day i logged in and eve ran sooo sweet. now after the hickup and the repeating issue when i do load up...the client is lagging out and using up 90+ % of my cpu load on a quad core...windows xp...nvidia 8800gtx all drivers updated and dxdiag showing no issues.
Larsonist > i still enjoyed the pew pew though, all the pos sh!t ive been doing lately had me feeling like smeagle without his precious. |

This worked for me.
In XP it's C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP
Just delete the "EVE" folder or rename it. It resets your UI.

Idk man, you have to be more explicit than 'i cant get it to install' is the installer just crapping out, are you getting a bad crc error on the install file? if its a bad download and you arent getting a good file from the default installer, than yeah, i'd def. try to download the whole file and run it from the hard drive. |

I had this problem yesterday and have been trying to fix it since. I only get the splash, after it goes away, nothing. No eve.exe task running, no black screen, no music. Reinstalled the entire program, still no good. I don't even have a cache because I've never logged in with the current client download.
My SiSi client still works. This is a mystery to me, as to why. I'd like to submit a bug report but I can't get anything to appear in the logserver. Any help with any of these issues would be appreciated.

well right around the time it gets to output folder: c whatever using local file step 2/3 verifying files
then it extracts a good 1/8th of the files, i get this: archive extraction failed, canceled

which to me is redundant seeing as how this IS the one i downloaded manually :\

When you run the logserver, you go to file => new workspace and the box comes up in the right hand pane of the logserver window? yes/no? Once thats running, when you start the eve client it should start filling up as the exe reports back through the bootstrap. Also, you most likely do have a cache dir setup, its one of the first things the exe does, my bad machine still makes cache folders despite never getting anywhere near the login screen |

Tried deleting or moving the cache, no success.
What did work is renaming the settings folder (or delete, though seemed horribly permanent) where the cache folders were.

I have the same problem
I tried to get my Eve to run for over 10 hours now. I uninstalled and reinstalled Eve twice now, one time with online Installer and one time with the offline Version, nothing works. Only get the Dominion Picture, no Process, no login Screen... nothing.
The only thing that can get me to login screen is to delete the whole cache files but when i try to change a setting (graphic, sound, whatever) eve won't start again.

I've updated from a 7800GT to a 275GTX a few days ago and I started getting computer restarts just as the login screen is supposed to turn into the chaacter selection screen ... now I've noticed some ppl have BSOD's at that same point so here's a quick workaround that might help some of you at least play the game until ccp fixes this crap (and no it is not a hardware issue since everything else works pristine including some high end / load 3d applications and games)
1. on the login screen go to settings and change to windowed mode 2. exit settings and type in your username and password but don't hit enter yet 3. get your pointer onto the minimize button 4. hit enter and IMMEDIATELY (before progressbar reaches right end) minimize the eve client 5. wait for it to load the character screen (you will here a different music) 6. maximize and play ...
apparently there is a problem in switching modes between the login screen and the character selection screen that causes (dx10) cards to go bonkers and BSOD / Restart system ...
I hope ccp fixes this soon because I've forgotten to do this procedure countless times so far in the past days and had to endure loosing some work in the process.
This obviously doesn't work for the guys stuck on the black screen of death (which is supposed to be fixed by Dominion 1.0.2 released today ...

Edited by: Reyna Neens on 09/12/2009 00:45:05 Since I'm not really getting any help from CCP, I'm left guessing and hoping. They say that it might be old drivers for my sound card. Obviously, my computer is 7 years old, so my drivers must be very old too. I have Soundblaster Live 5.1 Platinum. The latest drivers I could find were 5.12.0001.0252 (07/19/2002). Before Dominion, I used to set all my audio off. However, considering I can't even get to the settings screen, I can't turn off anything. I tried running in safe mode (which I would assume uses minimum requirements - and hopefully no sound), but that doesn't work. I tried using audio=0 in pref.ini and that didn't work. Does somebody know how to disable sound without doing it in game? If not, could somebody disable sound and go to minimum settings and paste their pref.ini? Thanks.
Seriously, there are no sound requirements for EVE.

Nope, still doesn't work. At this point, my skill training has been over on one account for a few days and my skill training for another account will be over in a couple days. My subscription will expire around Christmas (so they still have a couple weeks to fix things), but I've been playing on PLEXes for a year, so they're not going to miss me anyways. I just wish that if it truly is a sound card issue, then they should have either the option to still run without sound or at least a minimum sound card requirement. I mean I could go out and buy another sound card for $25 or whatever it is, but how am I supposed to even know if that is the problem or the solution? I already wasted $50 on a newer video card (so I don't have to use 3D Analyze anymore).

Honestly man, i dont know that the sound card is your problem, I have a similar machine right next to the bad one, both of them were running soundblaster live 5.1 gamer cards, one works one doesnt, drivers are the same, theres something else missing here, and i'm at a loss to what it is. Hell, my bad comp right now doesnt even have a sound card, or any audio drivers of -any- kind, and it still hangs like this. |

From what I can tell, I did most of the things you did and I see the same things you see. The pieces of evidence that make the sound card suspect is the logserver file that shows the audio line as the last time, the details of the crash file reported to Microsoft that shows audio2.dll as one of the first things shown, the fact that I get no sound after the splash screen when I should be seeing the login screen, and that the bug report I submitted suggested that I update the audio drivers (which I replied to showing them the drivers that I updated to, that it still doesn't work, and they still haven't responded).
Since you are also running soundblaster liver 5.1 cards, what version are you using?

after i turned it into :

it worked !
seems +,-,_ and other letters not according to english language could cause problems.

The last update i had was that live drive update from 2003, i've not seen anything more current for the cards. Though i find it interesting, i physically removed the card from the machine, then re-installed windows, so theres no drivers for either that or the onboard mobo sound, wich ive disabled in bios to try to further rule out, Im not sure what else, if anything can be done to keep it from tripping over that audio dependencies line, especially when the comp right next to me has the same card and drivers and works like a champ. |

Edited by: Phraktle Dasari on 09/12/2009 20:54:34 Edited by: Phraktle Dasari on 09/12/2009 20:53:40 I deleted the settings subfolder in the EVE folder within the %USER%... folder, and the program loaded, so I think its a definite fix, but its only a one shot boot as after exiting (and the client re-creating the settings folder) it dies again after the splash screen when I started to re-run the client.
So it definitely has something to do with the update putting some toxic stuff into the settings folder. I guess until it will be addressed by CCP in another patch, what one can do to play is first deleting the settings folder, then starting up the client...
For reference, I am using a Win7 32bit, but as one can already figure, its not an opsystem-dependant problem.

I actually fixed the startup problem on my computer. Here's what worked for me:
What RB Nathanian wrote made me take a look at my own clusterName in the prefs.ini file, which was; clusterName=AndrT-PC@AndrT-PC. I figured that maybe he was on to something, but instead of changing the name in the prefs.ini file i went ahead and change the name of my computer to ANDREPC (leaving out the *T* and *-* signs that might be causing problems), and now the game runs fine! restarted the game 3 times and no problems so far. =)
Hope this helps some people. |

Actually, this helped a lot. My driver remains the version from 7/19/2002. The drivers I got from the CD that came with the sound card did not even install. I found these drivers from somewhere on the web. I tried the LiveDrvUni-Pack and it didn't seem to update the drivers. I tried LiveDrvPack_Patch next and it still didn't update. Any ideas why I can't update the drivers or how I can (I got the 2 updates from Creative web site)? If all else fails, I guess I blow another $30 on another sound card.

Yeah, that LiveDrvUni-Pack is the last one i had, and iirc its not so much a driver patch in the update sense as a funcionality thing. there was a bug before that patch that broke surround sound in windows, so you had to run that to get the back speakers going, and it added some stuff to that mixing tool, but thats all it did as im aware. |

The LiveDrVPack_Patch does not update my drivers. In fact, it causes the sound to stop working (and don't show the driver as updated). Therefore, I uninstall the drivers, restart, let Windows find some driver (not Creative's), reboot, installl LiveDrvUni-Pack, reboot, and I can get back to the 2002 Creative drivers. You say you have 2003 drivers from the LiveDrvUni-Pack? I tried downloading a WebPatch.exe which supposedly has the 2003 drivers, but it says that it cannot detect any Sound Blaster audio devices.

Maybe if enough people file, they'll realize that it's a problem with their software and they'll put a fix in the next patch.

Exactly the same problem here - been playing a bit today (reactivated my account after quite a while), then closed eve and later tried to start it again, but only the splashscreen pops up, then nothing (automatically closes). Running it on WinXP.

Install eve on a virtual machine.
If using VMWare (this is the one I would suggest): 1. Follow these instructions to launch a WMWare image with windows installed. 2. Install Eve on the Virtual machine 3. Tell us if it runs.
This will be a several hour process and other better tutorials might exist. You can probably get a pre-configured virtual machine off a torrent from any number of torrent sites, but you can't always trust those.
I would really like to know if this works or y'all. I have used this trick to get some other apps to work when there were hardware conflicts in the past but it does not always work. I have also used eve as a benchmark of sorts for testing the performance of a remote VM at work and it performed well (about a year ago).

I'm getting the same situation... I guess. I get the splash and then black screen and then it crashes.
I don't know if sound works or not, going to try it tonight.
This is the last line from the LogServer: 7022009.12.11 06:14:30:666Timeslice warning order 5, 4939ms in tasklet: entering 'Trinity::_WndProc' from '<NO CONTEXT>^<bound method Login.LoadScene of <blue.BlueWrapper object at (snip)>>'
And the MS Crash I get says it dies in _trinity.dll
I've tried a few of the things including changing prefs.ini and it made less error ands crap before it got here but it still dies here.

I'm at the same point. With my old Soundblaster card they said it's old drivers. I bought a new Diamond sound card, they asked for the minidump and I've been waiting quite a while for their response. Looks like they ran out of excuses.

I know. I bought a new video card in the last expansion because they wanted to get rid of classic client. I bought a new sound card for this expansion to try to fix the issue. Maybe I'll buy a whole new computer and cross my fingers and hope that I can play. No thanks. I'll buy a new computer for my own reasons when I want to, not for this game.

I had the same problem of a blackscreen after splashscreen... no hints in this thread worked for me.
...but I finally figured out what my problem was: somehow my DirectDraw and Direct3D Acceleration in the DXDIALOG had been disabled, I really dont know how this happend but after manually enabling those options everything works perfect
You can check the status of your Hardware-Accelleration by typing "dxdiag" in the run-prompt of your windows and search for those options, its in the 3rd tab^^

Can anyone recommend some freeware for me that can tell if any of my devices are using old drivers? I went to Device Manager and clicked every device and did Update Drivers. I went to the company website for at least my audio drivers. I also found an update for my audio driver through Windows update.

Nice try, but I don't have a laptop, I have a desktop. I don't have an onboard video driver, I have nVidia 6200. I don't have an onboard sound card, I had a SoundBlaster Live 5.1 Platinum and later bought a Diamond Xtreme Sound 5.1. I can't get the login screen at all, even in safe mode.
[Edit] I found this in the Eve requirements. "Audio hardware must support SSE and be Direct Sound compatible." I know my sound card is Direct Sound compatible. How do I tell if it is SSE supported?
I also used a tool called Device Doctor and confirmed that I have the latest drivers.

Solved my problems, turns out Toshiba was the one that was throwing a wrench into the mix... sorry if graphics is not your problem though. Ok, this made me crazy a bit, and I'm sure not everyone will have had my specific issue, but here's mine for anyone it might help...
OS: Windows XP SP2 Client: Steam-based
Problem: Would show the splash screen and nothing more. The log server tool seemed to suggest that it couldn't get blue.dll to work.
First attempt: I ran the Repair tool, and let it finish. Re-loaded EVE, same behavior,
I ran EVE in Safe mode, and it complained about D3DX9_41.dll not being available. After a lot of searching I found the requested file in "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\eve online\bin\DirectX" (your location may vary, especially for non-Steam installs) and used WinRar to extract the D3DX9_41 file from Mar2009_d3dx9_41_x86.cab.
Extracting it into the same folder did nothing to help, and the game was upset about 'extra files'.
Working: I copied D3DX9_41.dll into my C:\Windows\System32 folder where there were a lot of other D3DX9_##.dll files. Ran EVE in Safe Mode, up it came. Ran in normal mode, logged in fine.
I'll hope this helps some folks!
