There are extra files in your EVE client installation. If you've recently applied a patch you may need to restart your computer.

Files are eve\bin\directX\RTA29930

and

EVE\bin\RTA29930

There is something wrong with the mail cache files. Try clearing the mail cache from the ESC menu and check that the hard drive is not full.

It's clearly a database or configuration issue - someone messed up on CCP's end here. No mail in-game(flat out broken) and the character is nearly impossible to log in as well. The other character(my alt) works perfectly.

Also, on that character, EVE Mon shows -2 billion SP and most of my skills are random. They are fine in-game(correct), though. But it's clearly that something on CCP's end is corrupt or not synced correctly on certain characters. My alt is fine as expected.

Its worked for me that way, not sure what difference it makes for the client but it works. Still cant undock nor alt-tab/log off without getting borked as far as i can tell, but maybe the logserver will catch something?

I was in the middle of using the log server to go step by step with all the problem times.... but if you already made and submitted some then I am not sure mine will be useful

Anyways, the problem was my driver. I tried downloading some, but they didn't work, only thing that worked was going to start/control panel/devise manager/display adapters/mobile intel(r) 965 express chipset family - note that will probably have a different name for y'all depending on your set up./double click that and select the drivers tab/update driver/search auto for new driver. (make sure u are connected to the internet when u tell it to search)

It searches, finds it, installs it all by it's damn self, lol. You will have to reboot your comp afterwards or the screen keeps going haywire - at least mine did, lol. It's fine after the reboot though.

I figure that's the case with Shaders on high while Texture is set to something low, not just shaders in general. I would think having shaders higher than texture often results in bizzare visuals regardless of game.

That's what I get, everytime as the last line of the logfile. Clearing the cache didn't help, suspecting the audio drivers were at fault I've physically pulled the sound card and reinstalled windows without it, the machine has NO audio hardware or software onboard now, yet the client still hangs on that audio line.
I've even disabled the native audio on the mobo through bios.

Could you, or someone thats gotten the client working again be explicit as to what directory you moved to root? moving the \ccp and the \ccp\eve\ folders to C: havent sorted it. Did you grab the eve folder, the ccp folder, did you move settings and cache folders only?

Tried this numerous times before and after the windows reinstall. Symptoms haven't changed. It ALWAYS dies on that log server line, despite there not being any audio hardware on the machine. Also, this comp has been running an eve client without issue for 4 years...

Registry, drivers and memory didn't die inbetween starting the Apocrypha client and installing the patch for Dominion, the machine wasn't even shut off in that time.
Tried running the repair tool about a dozen times, all other software on the machine is working just as it has been,

Don't mean to pick your post apart, you just make some points that I've run into in working this problem.
Would be pretty sweet if we could get CCP to weigh in on this and at least let us know they're aware of this problem beyond just tossing the 'clear your cache' line at people,
This problems gone from quirky to mind bendingly frustrating.

AMD xp2000+ / 1.5 gb of ram, running Winxp sp3,
directx 9.0c
ATI Radeon x1650 on Catalyst 8.12, the 9.x drivers aren't compatible with this card anymore, Ive also tried third party driver packs like Omega, wich I ran Apoc under, hasn't changed anything.
Sound card WAS an SBlive gamer 5.1, currently uninstalled and sitting on top of my printer to try to rule it out as a cause of the audio load failing when the client boots.

In the middle of filling a bug report , but here is what I did to correct the issue immediately. Alt-tabbing still crashes it and changing the shader puts me back to the black screen o' death. No fix for alt tabbing though

Since I got the black screen o' death from the beginning, I couldn't clear the cache from the GUI. Renamed the entire Eve folder under my profile (this is VISTA)

C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\CCP

Renamed EVE folder to EVE.old (you can probably go into Eve and just delete/rename the cache folder, but meh)

That let me at least get to a logon box.

It's an offline installer, so you download the whole 2.4gb to the hdd then it installs from there...

It's an offline installer, so you download the whole 2.4gb to the hdd then it installs from there...

Reinstalled the entire program, still no good. I don't even have a cache because I've never logged in with the current client download.

My SiSi client still works. This is a mystery to me, as to why. I'd like to submit a bug report but I can't get anything to appear in the logserver. Any help with any of these issues would be appreciated.

Since I'm not really getting any help from CCP, I'm left guessing and hoping. They say that it might be old drivers for my sound card. Obviously, my computer is 7 years old, so my drivers must be very old too. I have Soundblaster Live 5.1 Platinum. The latest drivers I could find were 5.12.0001.0252 (07/19/2002). Before Dominion, I used to set all my audio off. However, considering I can't even get to the settings screen, I can't turn off anything. I tried running in safe mode (which I would assume uses minimum requirements - and hopefully no sound), but that doesn't work. I tried using audio=0 in pref.ini and that didn't work. Does somebody know how to disable sound without doing it in game? If not, could somebody disable sound and go to minimum settings and paste their pref.ini? Thanks.

Actually, this helped a lot. My driver remains the version from 7/19/2002. The drivers I got from the CD that came with the sound card did not even install. I found these drivers from somewhere on the web. I tried the LiveDrvUni-Pack and it didn't seem to update the drivers. I tried LiveDrvPack_Patch next and it still didn't update. Any ideas why I can't update the drivers or how I can (I got the 2 updates from Creative web site)? If all else fails, I guess I blow another $30 on another sound card.

Yeah, that LiveDrvUni-Pack is the last one i had, and iirc its not so much a driver patch in the update sense as a funcionality thing.
there was a bug before that patch that broke surround sound in windows, so you had to run that to get the back speakers going, and it added some stuff to that mixing tool, but thats all it did as im aware.

which was; clusterName=AndrT-PC@AndrT-PC.

I figured that maybe he was on to something, but instead of changing the name in the prefs.ini file i went ahead and change the name of my computer to ANDREPC (leaving out the *T* and *-* signs that might be causing problems), and now the game runs fine! restarted the game 3 times and no problems so far. =)
