given the removal of the only resolution that works for me, i now have to scrap my perfectly good monitors and go ****ing shopping. cheers for that. why remove resolutions you dozy ****s, was it really such a game breaking issue to have more than 6 choices on the list?

Edited by: Lork Niffle on 01/12/2009 23:01:12 EVE does not have resolutions hard coded into it.
In fact no game has had that for a long time.
It's part of your system's own settings. Try reinstalling your GPU drivers and/or your screen drivers.
Also try up or downgrading your drivers and ensureing the connection you are using supports the resolution.
Also swearing and name-calling will get you no where. Post system settings, specifications and drivers to actaully get help and not banned. ------------------------------------- The system issues man. |

well forgive me for not being a "fornicating" engineer. i just switch the thing on and load up the games, i dont know how they work its a magic box full of wires and "excrement". the only thing thats changed on my machine is the eve patch, everything else works just fine. oh and test server hasnt had my resolution for several years while tranq has allways had it. loading sisi or loading tranq changes my computers inner settings?
and if you dont like the way i talk then that isnt my problem. i swear all the time regardless, its called language. id advise against looking in the dictionary, it may harm your delicate sensibilities. |

If you believe it is a problem with the eve client, give details a to your problem.
1. What resolution has disappeared for you? 2. What operating system are you running? 3. What graphics card do you have? 4. What happens when you use a different resolution? (perhaps post screenshots) 5. Is the list of available resolutions the same regardless of if you are in windowed or full screen mode?
With that information we might be able to help you figure out why you are having a problem no one else seems to be having.

Edited by: Wet Ferret on 02/12/2009 13:34:34 Anyone saying it isn't a problem with the client must have missed a few patches ago when several resolutions disappeared from the list for most of the playerbase (1152x864 being at the top of the complaints list). Yes they can and have messed up and removed support for certain resolutions from the client.
OP would be much more helpful if he stated which one he lost though.
But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started. |

ive no problem admitting im a gormless **** and dont know the first thing about computers. give me something electrical and ill have it broken in a matter of seconds, but a plumbing or carpentry job ill get it done. wires comfuse me lol.
1. What resolution has disappeared for you?
well, plenty of them. there was about 12 in my list before, now theres only 6. the one im worried about is 1280 - 720, its the one that works on my screens.
2. What operating system are you running?
vista, whichever version is the cheapest im not made of money.
3. What graphics card do you have?
2 x gts 250's
4. What happens when you use a different resolution? (perhaps post screenshots)
half my screen is missing, the closest i have is 1280 by 768 which means i cant see my password box on login, cant see the undock button in station, cant see the low rack on my modules.... ive got about 2 - 3 inches of screen missing.
5. Is the list of available resolutions the same regardless of if you are in windowed or full screen mode?
im allways in windowed mode because i run 2 accounts on 2 screens, if i go full screen then one closes when i tab to the other one and i may as well just have 1 screen and switch, which is a ****ing nightmare when one character is scouting the other.
look, i know i come off as confrontational but thats just me. im not looking for a fight im just irritated that the patch has ****ed things up at my end. maybe its just me and im too much of a nuckle dragging ***** to understand what i should be doing. but seriously, if im a **** then tell me im a ****, ill do the same as i allways have. and to me, the lable has fitted ccp for the last 5 years ive been here.

Hmm, observations:
I only have 3 available resolutions 1024x768, 1280x768, and 1280x800. My current resolution in windows is 1280x800 My resolution choices are the same wether in full screen or windowed mode.
If I close my client and change my windows resolution to 1280x600 then reopen my client: I get a 4th option of 1280x600 in Eve
Changing my windows resolution while eve is running causes misalignment of mouse hitboxes and the graphics. It is not advised.
Hmm, actually, workaround discovered:
1. Set your windows resoution to a resolution with the same widht but smaller height than you normal resolution 2. Open Eve and set its resolution equal to your new windows resolution. 3. Close Eve 4. Restore your windows resolution back to what you normally use. 5. Open Eve and DO NOT change your resolution in game again after you have found a desirable one.
Hope this helps
As for your attitude, the fact that you answered questions presented to you makes me like you more than half the people I had to deal with during the 2 years I worked tech support.

orly? And you're complaining about buying a new monitor that will cost LESS than any of the above?
I run 3 clients windowed at 1152x864 just fine on a geforce 8600 and on another pc with a 9800. You've got a vista or video driver problem.

If you "swear all the time regardless" then why did you stop swearing? And being polite usually does get you more help from the people here who take the time to think on your problem and try to assist you. Whereas spewing out expletives like you have a bad case of tourettes will just make people want to antagonize and belittle you, which is no use to anyone.. least of all the mods.

Edited by: Tenlan Raal on 02/12/2009 22:16:31 TLDR version: I don't know how to work my PC and will swear and stamp my feet in CCP's general direction because this is somehow their fault. When this is pointed out, I will show no apparent humility over acting like an especially immature 10 year old.
Edit for clarity: Someone not knowing the ins and outs of their PC is fine - not everyone is technically inclined. I take extreme issue with people who try to make this the responsibility and/or fault of someone else, however, and no "sorry but that's me" bull**** will convince me not to.

before the patch, everything worked fine. after the patch, my screens dont work. what am i supposed to think? if applying a patch makes the thing not work, im going to blame the ****ing patch.
anyhow, (lack of) progress report: i tried changing my windows resolutions around, didnt get any new options inside eve but i can match up windows and eve resolutions to make the screens fit. the problem there is that changing them to fit to eve means every other program is now off instead. so back to square one but with 10 - 12 buggered up instead of just 1.
oh i allmost forgot, feel free to "belittle" me all you like, name calling and saying im an idiot just isnt going to cut it here im afraid. frankly your insults just arent insulting to me so knock yourself out.

Yowza, you really don't get it.
The reason people respond to you like that is because you talk like this all the time! It's called Common courtesy, you be nice and they will be nice, you treat them like crap and that's what you'll get. No one cares how you act in game because eve is a place where people can act however they want and get away with it but if you want help with something they you should take a deep breath and realise that there are (albeit few) people who take the time to help others with problems such as yours, don't give them crap and expect gold.
And so far I haven't called you any names, said you're an idiot or tried to insult you.

I'll try and be a little more helpful then the posts above me. You can get any resolution in eve by creating a custom resolution in your graphics control panel.
To do this (since you are using NVIDIA), right click any empty area on your desktop and click NVIDIA Control Panel. Then, go under the display tab on the left -> change resolution. After that click on add resolutions -> create custom resolution and input your desired resolution then test and click yes when done.
Finally, exit the graphics control panel, load up Eve and enjoy. |

Dude you can get some nice 21" screens with 1680x1050 res for like ú90 each.
Why the **** have you 2 gts 250's in SLI when you have such poor screens, 1 card would run them both fine.
To get custom resolutions for Fullscreen and Windowed modes in EVE: 1) Open up your video driver (on using NVidia control panel, you can do this by right clicking on the desktop and selecting Nvidia control panel) 2) Inside the NVIDIA control panel, switch to Display -> change resolution, Add resolutions 3) Click Create Custom resolution and accept the blurb, then enter the x and y measurements (leave everything else alone unless you know what you're doing, especially leave the refresh rate alone - you used to be able to break monitors putting the wrong number in here and probably still can), either press the "test" button (and when the yes/no question comes up press yes) or simply hit the red x in the top right corner without going through the whole test thing. 4) Open EVE, press escape, change to the "Display and Graphics" tab, change the resolution (and perhaps whether you're going to run in fullscreen or windowed mode), apply.
This method applies to the latest Nvidia control panel and drivers on a windows 7 setup, although all versions of the Nvidia drivers - OS have this option.
To create smaller resolutions you just need to follow this method although the minimum acceptable res for eve is 1024x768....I think.

create the resolution in nvidia? its allready in nvidia, ive been using the bloody thing for years and its still right there. where its not, is eve. ive got **** tons of resolutions for nvidia (my native one is listed as 1440 - 900, but i use 1280 - 720 cause im a blind squinty old git), 16 i just counted, so why are there only 6 in eve and none of the ****ers i actually want to use? how do i get the things to synch across from nvidia into eve?
right thats for the last posters, everyone else: if your not here to point my dumb ass in the right direction or to suck daddys **** then you should know ive been around too long and taken too much crap to be fazed by a bunch of ***gots circle jerking over a game forum because they found someone new to shout at. by all means go ahead, but dont expect a rise. im not the type you usually deal with.

1) Set a custom resolution of 1280x720 in the nvidia control panel 2) Then use it as your desktop resolution, 3) Restart computer 4) Start eve up. 5) look in your eve ingame settings and you will now see the custom resolution. 6) Select your custom resolution. 7) Make an appointment at the optician 8) Attend anger management class 9) *Optional* If you cant make any of the above work it may be time for an Emoragequit (Dont forget to mass flame this topic and blame CCP for your lack of ingenuity)

Your failing to account for the amount of people capable of helping you that simply wont because of the attitude you display, your problem would have already been fixed by now, if you had at least a little bit of respect.
Operating a PC is like driving a car, you dont need to know how the car works just how to drive it, but when it breaks down knowing how it works will help you, I wouldnt recommend phoning the AA and saying "Come fix my f***ing car!" People should need to pass a basic familiarization test to use a PC.

to those who did offer advice and tips ill say thanks, though none of it seemed to work, im still having issues but ive managed to make the game at least playable for now. so you can all go have a cry and a whinge on whatever website is popular this week and try to forget that there are people out there who dont want to be friends and dont hide their contempt for you.
and because i know people will complain that i only swore once in this post: **** off. one of the *****s i know is watching can lock this now (and ban me too if you like, lot of ****ing use this place is), im done with you.

Ahh ok, thats np.
Im not sure why these methods are not working for the OP, I have made 1366x768 and 1440x900 for my lappys using eve and win 7 one with a 9600GT and one with a ATI HD4850, albeit in the catylist drivers for the ATI card ofc.
With my machines once a resolution is set driver side it automatically syncs with eve.

purely for the sake of closure:
setting custom res didnt show up in eve at first. BUT, i switched the primary and secondary monitors around (christ knows why that made a difference they are the same ****ing screens) and there they were, my customs showed up right away. i dont claim to know why having one or the other as primary should make a difference but it did and then the things you posted actaualy worked.
