Hi all, I'm a relative newbie to minmatar ships, can't yet use T2 large projectiles or missiles, but I'd like to start using a minmatar BS for missions.
I imagine many of us are in the same position.
Who has a good, effective minmatar BS setup for missions in Dominion? That works with T1 weapons?

Highs = 1200mm's Meds = 1xXL SB, 2x SBA, 2x Invul(or mission specific hardeners), 1xCap recharger/cap booster Lows = Cap mods & damage mods
Or
Same fit with 800mm Repeating artillery and TE's in lo's and an AB in Med's
I find using 1200's in highs to be best for non-angel missions where they will orbit at 20km.. then use t2 hammerheads to kill cruisers.
800's have insane damage at optimal... but the maelstrom is slow and you'll spend 1/2 your time chasing after the BS's then u got to salvage all that crap.. i find sitting in mission letting stuff come to me much easier so tend to use the 1200's

Since you can't use T2 guns yet, use artillery on a Maelstrom. AFter that you can train up t2 autocannons and switch to those with Barrage ammo, and make the move to the Vargur.

I'm not convinced the Phoon won't actually be a better overall mission runner than the Mael.

DonŠt think so. The Maelstrom tank & gank is far superior for Angel missions, especially when you consider native shield resist to explosive versus armor. And the relatively insane burst tank on the Maelstrom.
Boils down to being able to fit 2xTe and 3xGyro on a Mael, vs 2 or 3 dmg mods on an armor Phoon. Might be slightly better against Amarr, tho.
Different storyu when it comes to PVP, tho.

The Maelstrom is also insanely easy to fit with tons of powergrid and CPU, so even a relatively new BS pilot can put on a reasonable fit - the same cannot be said of the Typhoon, which I have found can be a challenge to fit appropriately, and in the hands of a newer BS pilot is hard to use effectively. --Vel

Eah. I'm still messing around with it, but I have a Cruise Phoon fit with 720ish Ranged DPS going right now...it still needs kinks worked out, but it's looking pretty good stacked up to the Mael.
Even after the changes, the Mael starts losing enough DPS in falloff that the Phoon could overcome it after 30KM.
I think when all is said and done, the Phoon would post better missions times than the Mael, and could give the Raven a run for its money. That says nothing about the stupid amount of time you'd need to spend training for it however, which might be reason enough to go for the Mael instead.

Good point. My fitting and support skills for shield, armor, capacitor, etc are excellent, and I have AWU 5, but I don't have T2 large projectiles, T2 missiles, or T2 heavy/sentry drones, and it seems like I'd have to train all three to fly the Typhoon well. Right?

This is much less true with the new slot layout. It's one of the reasons I campaigned so hard for it.

With Dominion I use these modules in my highs:
2x Large Artillery 5x Cruise Launchers 1x Drone Link Augmentor (boosting my 5x Sentry Drones)
This means that I don't have to emphasize gunnery skills nearly as much as before, since cruise missiles and drones make up a larger percentage of my damage than was possible before.
On the flip side, if you want to go with 5x artillery and 2x launchers, you can do that too.
