I have been wondering for a long time if the agility of your ship affects the propablility of being hit or does it only help the speed for changing directions?

Not sure anymore.
Had this discussion with others recently. I originally thought that agility helped you turn better, which affected the chance of being hit and how hard the hit. The faster you turn, the harder it is for people's weapons to track and land a good hit.
But others have been reporting missiles missing them while travelling in a straight line towards the launcher because of higher agility amounts. So I'm no longer sure myself...

Yeah.. I think it helps more for in close combat. If you can turn faster you can maintain much smaller orbits around the enemy making tracking near impossible.. Haven't heard about the missle part yet..

Agility would be great if tracking speed had any effect. At the moment it doesn't seem to. A 450mm gun appears to have exactly the same tracking speed as a 125mm gun, ie. they both have equal chance of hitting a small, fast moving target.
Tracking is either not working as intended or the difference is so miniscule that you can disregard it completely when putting your weapon selection together.

Jash, if they were pirate missiles, it has nothing to do with agility. I have seen pirates shooting missiles at me but fly past at about 10km away, that is in a moa and stood still. I have also seen pirates carry on shooting missiles at people that have already warped out. Main Everlasting Vendetta Veteran Member of the Stain Alliance |

Yes, agility and maneuverability play a major role in taking damage or being hit. We have tested this and as of June 25th, 2003 it is still in effect. Max out maneuverability skill and load our ship with nano fibers etc. then go fit a low level pirate (Which you should know what kind of damage the usually deal, if not, fly out there without the gear and test). You will be amazed, plus depending on your bonuses in agility and maneuverability you can doge missiles, but current speed also playas a part in dodging missiles.
