Hello,
I've been playing EVE for about two years, and until recently, played on my notebook. As of now, I am running EVE on a custom built computer. Here are the basic specs:
Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.67 GHz Memory: 6GB Graphics Processing Unit NVIDIA Geforce GTX 260 HD: WD Green Caviar 1TB OS: Windows 7 (64 bit)
I have EVE graphics cranked up to 100% on everything, and I thought I would be getting at least 100 fps. Instead, i'm getting around 60. Any reason for this? I'm utterly confused.

EVE is not hard capped on FPS as far as I know, I get 300+ FPS..
Although I have to criticize your build, the WD Caviar Green drives regulate RPMs to save on power, the end result being a slower drive. For your main OS/program drive I highly recommend upgrading to a Blue/Black. I'm not saying thats whats holding you back, but its a start.
Also check in the nvidia control panel to make sure you aren't using vsync. vsync caps your FPS at your monitor's refresh rate to reduce/eliminate screen tearing. The views expressed by me in my forum posts are in no relation to my Corporation or my Alliance. I swear my cat made me type them. |

Edit...dam i was too late ^
And ur at 60fps because of V sync, tbh when it goes higher ur find ur screen will get flickery (ur screen can handel 60hz so ur pc runs at 60fps), above that is just stupid and tbh u just push ur grafics card harder than it needs 2

I see many people worried about their FPS, but, I can't really see any different in playing the game with 60 FPS or 110 fps (changing the present interval to immediate)
what difference should I expect to notice?

None, ur monitor can only show 60fps (expect some very high price ones), and tbh even if u could, i think human eyes can only see up2 30fps or something, either way 30fps is good enoth :)

Congrats, you just turned off V-Sync.
Although your monitor can only display 60 fps, your graphics card can produce in excess of that to aid in the feeling of smoothness of the game. The only side effect is that you might get texture ripping, wherein a refresh of the monitor co-insides with the rendering of a frame on the graphics card. So for a 60th of a second, you see half of one frame, and half of another (the appearance of the ripping of a texture). ---

wether it breaks your GPU or not, unless you have a monitor that can display more then 60 FPS (some go as high as 120 now) it is totaly wasted prosessing on the part of the gpu which = more heat for your case to eat.
... to late you edited and said the same thing....

You have vsync enabled. If you want to increase your FPS, go to the escape menu, and change your interval setting from "Interval one" to "Interval Immediate". Please realize that this causes EVE to render the scenes at maximum speed, which places a great deal of stress on your video card. If you GPU does not have proper cooling, you can damage your GPU by doing this. Several people have actually destroyed their graphics cards by doing this. Also please realize that increasing your FPS beyond 60 will not improve your game play at all, as most monitors are restricted to a refresh rate of 60Hz (except for some special monitors which go higher, for example the 120 Hz monitors which are compatible with Nvidia's 3d vision system).
I have written about EVE and the interval settings here. That thread explains when you want to use interval immediate, and when you want to use interval one.
The summary is, that if your FPS never goes below 60, then you want Interval One, as that will be better for your GPU, and will avoid screen tearing artifacts. If you use interval immediate, your monitor will not be able to keep up with the graphics card, and the GPU will draw multiple frames per screen refresh.
If your FPS goes below 60, then interval immediate will allow your GPU to draw more frames, at the expense of causing screen tearing (as it will present the frame whether the monitor is in sync with the GPU or not). If your FPS is below 60, and you use interval one, then your FPS will be some fraction (which will be constantly varying, so your FPS will still fluctuate wildly) of your monitor's refresh rate. ---------- There is always a choice. The choice might not be easy, nor simple, nor the options be what you desire - but, nevertheless, the choice is there to be made. |

le sigh.
I don't know how or why it came to be popular belief that the human eye can only see up to 30 FPS. While the human brain can consciously analyze the information of roughly 30 distinctive visual references per second, the eye can capture visual information in the 10s of thousands of times per second. While 60Hz is "good enough" for a monitor, those of us who aren't absolutely blind can tell there is a significant difference between 60Hz and 72Hz. If your monitor can support higher refresh rates, it's best to exploit them as much as possible... The differences are huge.
And this concludes exploration of semantics for the day. ____________________ CCP: Catering to the cowards of a cold, harsh universe since November, 2006. |

The human eye is capable of being extremely sensitive under the correct circumstances. Tests indicate that jet pilots are able to identify an image of a plane that was flashed in front of their eyes for about 1/220th of a second. This was identification. Merely recognizing that light was flashed in front of the eyes is even easier for the eyes - it is consciously recognized down to a flash that lasts 1/300th of a second. ---------- There is always a choice. The choice might not be easy, nor simple, nor the options be what you desire - but, nevertheless, the choice is there to be made. |
