Hi! Yesterday we had a little discussion while mining. Since last update of the mining laser visuals we have a nice look on the close up of mining lasers and zoomed out only the "blue rays". This looks a little bit worse than the "yellow rays" of the old visuals.
We had some thoughts about how to improve visuals while mining:
1. We have different types of mining frequency cristals, each with a unique color. Why not swap the color of the mining laser to the color of the frequency cristal like seen with energy turrets. This would help miners a little bit, because they could see by the ray color whether it's a T1 mining module or a T2 mining module and what ore's crystals are currently used. And it looks much more interesting than only the blue rays... ;)
2a. Currently while mining the lasers point on one spot on the asteroid all the time. It would be great if mining Lasers would walk on the asteroids, because the ore is not hidden on only one spot in the asteroid. It's all over it. This would be a little more realistic.
2b. Currently the asteroids are standing in the belts without any movement. Why not adding a little self rotation of the 'roids? It looks a little bit more realistic than 'roids standing still. Really nice would be, if the rotation speed of a 'roid is random.
2c. It would be really nice, if a roid being mined on looked like been mined on. When mining a 'roid I think about cutting pieces out of the 'roid and pulling the material to the mining ship via the tractor beam of the mining laser. Maybe it is possible to change the look of the 'roids, we can see larger holes and so on as a 'roid is more depleted.
3. When switching targets with mining lasers and looking close on an mining ship I experienced that the mining laser turrets/strip miners don't turn to the new target but instantly swap directions. This is only a small detail. I think most users didn't ever see this, because not looking on close up while switching targets. I think it would be great if we could see the turret turning (fast/slowly) to the direction of the new asteroid. I think this would look much more realistic than the instand direction change.
I know all of this ideas are small changes in visuals, but I think they could resolve in a more real mining feeling. In addition to the tech demo of what EVE could look like in the future this would make EVEs mining experience extraordinary. In the current engine it would make it much more interesting because not only many blue rays on black ground. ;)
Thanks for your time reading this. I would be glad if other players could think about additional visual changes that could improve mining experience. |
