Hello guys,
I have recently purchased a freighter and besides the help i can get with it i was wondering if i can make some profit in high sec with it by carrying misc items for NPC corps. As i don't have any experience in this can you guys give a few hints how should i usually find a good trade route and what is average profit for how many jumps?
Checking NPC corp info on eve online webpage helps? What specific corp is selling and what others are buying? Are you actually supposed to purily check market in every system???

"Hey guys I bought a freighter. What do I do with it?"
No. You know what? You can make profit in highsec with your freighter by selling it. 100% guaranteed profit so long as you sell it for more than you bought it for.

What is your problem?
I know that there are trade routes between NPC corps and you can make slight profit from transporting these goods. I understand it is a delicate matter and no one would give up their route but i am just asking for some hints and average profit you can get from it.

Look, I'm sure you're a pretty decent fellow but you basically came here to say "Hey guys, I just spent a bunch of money on a ship that I don't know how to make money with, can you tell me how to make money, how much I'll make and how much stuff I'll need to move?"
I'll give you one free hint: NPC tradable items change in prices. Look up Long-limbed roes, go to a station and buy a few thousand and move it to a buy station and sell them.. See what happens to the prices.
Now that we have that out of the way here are some interesting facts of Ostiches:
# The ostrich is a member of the ratite family of birds.
# Ostriches cannot fly.
# There are 3 main species of ostriches of which only one, the Struthio Camelus Domesticus (the African Black), is found in captivity.
# Ostriches skeletons and fossils have been found which date back over 120 million years; ostriches are a true dinosaur.
# Ostriches produce the strongest commercially available leather in the world and some of the most beautiful feathers.
# Ostrich meat is a red meat and is very low in cholesterol, calories and is almost fat free. Ostrich meat resembles beef in its appearance and is cooked almost the same way. Ostrich meat tastes just like... well, it tastes just like ostrich meat.
# Ostriches are not an endangered species; there are at least 2 million worldwide.
# Ostriches have the best feed to weight ratio gain of any land animal in the world. They are successfully farmed in at least 50 countries; from the coldest climates of Alaska to the equatorial areas of central Africa.

My problem is that I can no longer remember the number of threads that have been made, all asking what to do with newly-bought freighters. My problem is that you are lazy and unimaginative. My problem, if I have one, is that you either don't know about Eve-Search, or don't care. My problem is that you don't look before you leap, and then you run to the forums for help, rather than asking in-game, say in one of the trade/hauling channels.
The answer I provided was entirely factual and will generate you a profit. To prove that I'm not a complete asshat, here's your free tip. POS eat several NPC goods as fuel.

Edited by: Seby on 08/12/2009 09:04:46 I bought the freighter to carry my personal stuff with it, as i specified earlier, and i was wondering if i can make any profit but you all are too jumpy to criticism than just post something for free if you want or not ...
So i found out that NPC prices are changing, thank you for that and a nice hint that POS use NPC items for fuel which was not necessary needed because as i said i will do my homework once i get some hints from you of how it works but than again you are too jumpy to withdraw conclusions.
PS: i can not launch eve for a period of time so all i can do is search forums and post threads but i didn't know i have to post everything about my personal life and any other limitations to be taken with good will.
What i was expecting to find out from this post is from an experienced guy to let me know something like this: "It is possible to make profit by trading NPC items, you can make easily 2mil profit for a 5 jumps trip and harder (if you find the object to trade) 20 mil profit for a 10 highsec trip. For low sec trips you can expect a double profit. I hope that helped and now get to work at checking prices on market. PS: once you buy NPC items the price will change, it is based on available amount and request or sell orders" so this way i would know the base guide lines and if it's worth it or not.
If anyone has any free hints or guide lines and can spare me of the infantile bull**** i would appreciate the help.

Be careful, you will find a lot of terribly outdated trading guides that make NPC trade routes sound like gold mines - this is not true anymore (at least to my knowledge ).
edit: I don't see what you would need a guide for - just take an alt, visit a few regions and export market logs for NPC items. Then use Eve Market Scanner to look for traderoutes. But since you have read the stickies (haven't you? ), you are already aware of the 3rd party tools at your disposal.

RF investments [Red Frog] do hi-sec freighting and do it very well. If you want to meet fellow freighter pilots then go hit one of them up. I'm sure they'd love another pilot

Thanks for the warning! Yep, i am aware of eve market scanner and what should i do for searching once i will be able to log into game in a few days, i just don't know what's the current status for NPC items trading the only conclusion i can withdraw is that people don't give to much info about it :), maybe thay have something to hide :)

Hey Seby,
if you're comming here for crystal clear answers, you'll be disappointed. The MD will not give you hints to make money, because they're going to create more competition for themselfs.
If you need to know how to maximize profits with your freighter, you should have researched the market before buying a freighter
Only tip I can give you, look at minerals, with a freighter you can buy bulks cheap minerals at one place and sell them at another place for more. ______________________________________ If only EVE could cook, if only.... |

The most sound advice I can give you is to get out of industry as fast as you can.
You have made a 1bil+ isk investment that you have no idea how to make a return on. This does not bode well for your future in industry.

This is probably your best bet. Most freighter pilots make money be moving non-NPC goods (like minerals) or taking on courier contracts to do that for someone else. If you want to do this in a more social environment where you may learn a lot, RF are a good bet. And they have a steady influx of contracts. You could do a lot worse.
Apologies to everyone else for this post not containing ostrich-related flaming.

Ship POS fuel to Jita 4-4. Just not Enriched Uranium, which is NPC sold at that station.
