Jump freighters and Orcas can enter hisec space and it occurs to me it would be nice to have a similar displacement combat class vessel too. Maybe that is just more of the evolution of battleships though in the same way battleships of the 19th and 20th century evolved to always be a little bigger with a little more armor and a little more fire power then the previous models.

Hmm, what does orcas and jump freighters have to do with the evolution of battleships? And in turn what do they have to do with motherships?
I'm still sort of clueless as to what you really mean, however I feel compelled to answer with a simple: Black ops. Parrots, commence!

I meant a combat ship that is small by capital ship standards like an orca or jump freighter and thus can be brought into hisec but larger then battleships.
If you think about standard combat ships their are 3 tiers (frigates/destroyers, cruisers/battlecruisers, and battleships) battle cruisers and destroyers are kind of the half step to the next tier and I think it would be interesting to have a half step from battleships that could operate as a small capital but still run in hisec space like Orcas or jump freighters.

anything that is better than a battleship but not a capital is still a battleship, and everyone would fly them instead in high sec for missions etc.
a new mini capital with some specific role could be done, but combat wouldnt be it, or even near it.

yeah, it exists because its a new role.
so if you want another ship inbetween BS and capital it has to be unique, more combat wont work.

i think motherships will return but be possibly even larger than titans and more like a mobile station - insane defence but no real offense at all but you can dock a fleet in the mothership - mothership jumps into hostile system - then everyone undocks and has a battle and a half
would need to limit how many jumps the mothership could do meaning if you jump it in your forced to defend it cause it aint going anywhere for 24 hrs or something and could have it stay on grid even if the pilot logs off - would give invading forces a base to operate from and place to collect new ships etc - would need significantly more hit points than a pos though and probably a reinforced mode too but would be useful even though it would be kinda boring ship to fly - perhaps they could introduce some fleet command system so the pilot could direct fleet operations from anywhere in the system with a better overview of whats happening than on grid fc's currently have

How about the new mother ship has the ability to jump to a cyno, Has a mod like a siege mod, enters the mode, is stuck there for how ever long you have stront, can fit normal ship guns on it but can only be fired by POS gunners, has all the goodies a station has except it can only carry say a fleet of 100 BS max.
Just my two isk.

well if they are to introduce something thats between bs and capital they would definitely have to make it more logistical then offensive, something around the lines of a mini carrier or something that can use maybe only 5 fighters or what not something with very low dps but the ability to use capital rr to some extent, i could see if usefull but the only problem would be people using them for missions hence the very low offensive ability. aka no turrets only bonus to transfers and only allow it to use bs sized armour mods or shield mods so it cant really out tank them, i guess im looking at something along the lines of a domi with no turrets and logi bonuses, thats jst an idea, it could turn into something much more or less.
i guess the above statemnt should be re-worded into one phrase. bs sized logi ships......
AND further more, Carthage must be destroyed!! |
