So I am getting Windows 7 64bit later today and going to test it in an emulated environment first. Anyhow, I wanted to ask the community -- how has Windows 7 been for you so far?
Any issues? Good/bad. Did you have a hard time getting Eve setup? Any driver issues? Anything I should be on the lookout for or expect when I set this up?
Thanks!

Zero problems so far.
I highly recommend a fresh install just because there's always that crap which builds up on a computer over time.
In stark contrast to Windows Vista, 7 has actually been a joy to use.

Some games wont work, printer/scanner drivers (lexmark x2670) don't work and I have to go into menus to scan instead of pressing the scan button on the printer. Belkin wireless dongle wont work either.
Besides that, it's a great OS.

Zero issues/problems/niggles/workarounds/whatever running EVE.
Only driver issue was an old HP printer that XP 64 and Vista 64 didn't like, but Win7 64 loved.
And I'm still running the RC-1 :) EVE-ONLINE VIDEO-MAKING TUTORIALS |

Awesome, it's good to know. I currently use Vista Ultimate and have no issues at all with it but I look forward to the upgrade. I also totally agree with a fresh wipe as it's nice to clean off the OS every once and a while.

I'm still using a (slightly altered) build of RC1. It's good enough that I haven't felt the need to install the final build yet. Using X64 version as well. Only hardware casualty was my random 5+ y/o 56k modem for which I can't find 64 bit drivers...but considering I can neither identify the make or model anyway it shows how important that is
There were nVidia drivers available for Win7 before RC1 was even released, and I've never had an issue with gaming really. I couldn't get Hitman IV working, but apparently that's a Vista problem that's carried over (random CTDs/Lock ups during gameplay). City of Villains CTDs now and then in windowed mode, works fine in full screen. Other than those I've played L4D2 (had known issues, now fixed), BioShock, Crysis: Warhead, Dark Sector, Dragon Age, Eve, Champions, TF2, WoW, Mass Effect, Neverwinter Nights 2, all work brilliantly.
Win7 setup is really very easy. You get asked where you want to install it and which version, install RAID drivers if necessary (chances are you won't need to) from USB or CD/DVD (at last the floppy is no longer needed!) and go. Later you can configure country, keyboard, username, etc. It's a nice OS, fast, pretty and rock solid. Network requests work magnitudes faster than XP, it's incredible. And I really like how drivers can be restarted by the OS in case of a lock up, where in XP they'd BSOD (actually a Vista feature, but I skipped Vista so...). -------------

I had the same "problem", a 5550 here. The Beta didn't like it though, but the release version does.

I was running RC1 until a week ago when I bought a new mobo, cpu, and ram, using 7 pro 64bit and so far so good, only issues I've had are the old 16bit battleground games not working, but they didn't work in vista either and both don't support native 16bit apps as I understand it.
To be fair to vista I'm running 64 and 32 bit on another pc and laptop and with the service packs they're ok, but Win 7 just feels like a more complete package out of the box.

Use the Virtual XP mode and run the game inside that, but in compatability mode :)

It's been fine for me although Fallout 3 doesn't like it. I'm getting black textures during cutscenes on my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570. As I'm on a Dell laptop I have to wait for Dell to update the graphics drivers.

Easy install... no application compatability problems. It even picked up drivers automatically for a device I have where Vista and XP used to just turn around and tell me to **** off.
It's very good. Removed. Please keep your EVE signature related to your EVE persona and not that of a real life politician. Navigator |

One BSOD in the three weeks running it. And that was cos uTorrent had a memory leak (MEMORY_MANAGEMENT BSOD).
Works flawlessly. ---

Edited by: Meiyang Lee on 18/12/2009 18:15:13 Running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit here, no major issues at all.
I've had a few games that didn't run the first time, but each one had it's issue solved fairly quickly (usually a minor fix from the relevant tech-support forum).
Other than that it worked just fine, installs very quickly (from disc-boot to desktop in about 25 minutes) and all devices working perfectly first time (then again, this is a brand new PC, 90% of it was W7 certified already).
EVE works like a charm, but that's not exactly picky about the environment it runs in, as long as it can access directX.

the beta impressed me so much i actually payed cash for a copy of it, decided to install the 64bit dvd, and it did so with 0 issues, installed everything, graphics/home network/sound/raid etc, and it's speedy to boot, no compatibility problems so far either, just played age of empires 2 over the net and and it was fine :D
no issues with going 64bit, thankfully, and yay, 4gigs of usable ram!

Went strait from 2GB (old PC) to 8GB when I built my new PC a few weeks ago, although I have to say I haven't come anywhere near maxing it out yet. Highest I've seen so far is a bit over 30% used. Guess fitting my PC with that much was a bit over the top.

If there's anything that you normally do that requires more than four gigs of ram then you can go with 64bit. The differences will be minor, except for the occasional issue with installing unsigned drivers. 64-bit doesn't allow you do unsigned install drivers. This happened when trying to run Peerblock.
I've used 64-bit video drivers from nVidia and they work absolutely fine with any game/program I've used. All the drivers work, plus most of the 32-bit drivers should be compatible with 64-bit windows. If you have a 64-bit driver available for your hardware, i.e. video card, install that instead of the 32-bit client.
Since it is already out there just go for it and upgrade to 64bit Win7 if you haven't already upgraded to Win7 yet.

Only issue I've had is some setup software for my new robot wouldn't work under 7, so had to use my XP laptop to do it. ____________________

XP mode didn't get it to work either? Considering that it is, for the most part, XP Professional SP3 in a virtual machine integrated within Windows 7. It is a separate download though, and only available for Professional and above.
