I recently acquired a large number of assorted ships, some rigged some without. to transport these I assume I need to use a freighter / jump freighter?
How many battleships can I transport at once.
Would a carrier be a better option?
Thank you so much

A carrier is pretty much going to be your only option. You can fit several packaged battleships in a freighter, but no freighter can moved rigged ships.

No longer true, Kalrand, at least assuming the patch notes for Dominion were correct. They increased the maximum size of a courier contract to match the maximum size of the cargo hold in a Charon.
Basically the rigged ships have to be docked in a station. You make courier contracts to move them from Point A to Point B. The size of the package will be the full size of the assembled ship, meaning a full sized freighter could at most take two battleships and I don't think a jump freighter can take any at all. ______________________________________________________ Isn't it enough to know that I ruined a pony making a gift for you? |

I'm fairly certain you can't put unpackaged ships in a freighter's hold regardless of the size.

well, to use a carrier you would need to be in low/null sec space... and if this is the case, it might be the best way to move them.
if in high sec space, you can move dozens of frigs and cruisers that have rigs, even more than don't have rigs.
as for rigged bc's and bs's, the limit is much less. not sure on the exact size as i have not tried moving any post dominion... if they don't have rigs, just package them and you will be able to carry a decent amount in a freighter.

You can also use an Orca. Not as much space as a carrier, but can go through high sec.

Haven't tried it with a battleship yet, but I know that we've had people send cruisers via courier before. It works because the ship gets wrapped in the courier container, which bypasses the "is this an unpackaged ship?" check.

I'm happy to report that Dominion has increased the courier contract size to 981k m3 (divide by relevant ship sizes to figure out how many of each type you can move). This is also the volume of a Charon with Freighter V.
Rigged/Assembled ships can be transported through courier contracts. I should note, however, that assembled/rigged ships can NOT be placed into the hold outside of a courier contract.
With the increase in volume, everything up to battleships can now be transported assembled/rigged in a freighter/jumpfreighter using courier contracts.
Red Frog Freight can help you move ships if you don't have a freighter of your own. Though, it sounds like the ships might be outside of hisec, which is outside our delivery area. |

No, but you can now courier contract battleships, the cap has been raised on the contracts to a max freighter load.
To the op, the freighter can move one bs at a time, as theyre all at least 500k meters, but you can also stuff a battlecruiser or two or some frigs in there along with it to cut the number of trips down. |

LOL .. what a great work around.
Really this should go out as a call for a "Transport Container", maybe small, medium and large sizes, that can fit a single rigged ship and then get stowed in a normal cargo hold.
There are a number of calls for a smaller Carrier style ship for moving around rigged ships, but if you can do it with a secure courier container, then why not have a standard container for the same purpose. That way, any ship with sufficient cargo capacity can move rigged ships. "Ozone is blue and smells faintly of geraniums." (Qi, BBC TV) |
