I'm hoping WoW will be the game that returns Blizzard E to glory. All they've released in the past 5-6 years (in my opinion) is absolute trash. Even when i played Diablo II for a short while and had my account banned along with 30,000 others because we were all apparently using "maphack", which i wasn't. And seeing as maphack was an entirely client side based program, and there was no way they could detect a user having it without committing computer crimes, it's obvious they banned those accounts at random to set an example. That's pretty low. Blizzard sucks. But because of Warcraft II, Diablo (original) and most of all Starcraft, i'm willing to give them another shot. WoW just might be a really great game, if you can get over the 50-poly characters.
On the other hand, my EVE subscription lasts for 5 more months. I'll probably be sitting in a hangar making the most of my implants for a little while, and just play other games in the meantime. WoW might be one of them. ----------------- "It's funny the way most people love death. Once you're dead you're made for life. WoW since the Shiva patch will take a while to deploy, not to mention the server stability issues that will come up post launch. Long skill training should be in place. _______________________________________________ Eris Discordia: On the scale of funny and constructive it scores low, real low. |

Did you play the beta? Is it that crap? I really don't know anything about the game, like i said, i'm just hoping it will be good.
And yes, if you feel like sifting through old blizzard news (it's in there somewhere, before the release of patch 1.10), 31 odd thousand Diablo II accounts (not CD-Keys) were banned on the same day for using a completely client side hack known as maphack. I'm not necessarily saying they were all innocent, but me and a friend were, and just the fact they would have to be looking into your PC files to even know if you were using the hack means they just banned them to set an example for others. I'm sure some other people who might have played the game at that time could back me up, because i don't make **** up on the spot for no reason. I know it sounds outrageous, but i assure you it's completely true. -edit (spelling) ----------------- "It's funny the way most people love death. Once you're dead you're made for life. WoW is having some really bad problems with lag atm. So I doubt that it will be a smooth release so whatever your concerns are about shiva stability it will be the same with wow most likely at that time.

Guess we're screwed, what with Half Life 2 due out next week or there abouts too. And I think Metroid Prime 2 is coming out around that time also (finally, a multiplayer metroid game). We'll be lucky if exodus comes out before christmas. --------------

Nothing gets on my nerves more than having my account banned for no reason back then and then people saying i'm speaking nonsense on top of it. I don't know if those accounts were mostly inactive accounts but i suspect that they were, and blizzard just piled them ontop of the original bans to set a bigger example. But i know that i was banned with no explanation other than i was using "maphack" which i didn't even have on my computer, along with a friend of mine. After that i completely lost my respect for blizzard, but i'd like to try WoW still. I'm hoping they treat their customers better this time around.

Aha - i searched through the old news archive: http://www.battle.net/news/0306.shtml
I was wrong, there were a lot more accounts banned than i thought. ppft. nonsense ey?
Quote: Diablo II Accounts Closed Tuesday, June 10, 2003 Numerous additional accounts were tied to the use of a hack or cheat program while playing Diablo II on Battle.net. In keeping with our aggressive stance against cheating, we have permanently closed over 112,000 of these accounts and documented the CD keys with which they were used. Please note that repeat offenders risk having their CD keys disabled, which would result in permanent removal from Battle.net for their copies of Diablo II.
We have also identified those accounts with which a "map-hack" program is being used. Map-hack programs give players who use them unfair advantages over other players. As with any third-party program, using them to affect play over Battle.net violates our End User License Agreement. Accounts that continue to be used with a map-hack program are subject to closure, and the CD keys with which those accounts are being used could be disabled.
We will continue to monitor Battle.net for cheating and take action as needed. To report additional instances of hacking or cheating, please contact us at [email protected]. A false report filed by one player against another will not result in the actions described above.
As always, thank you for your continued support; with your help we have been able to keep Battle.net a fun and safe place to play Blizzard games.
I was among those people. my CD-Key wasn't banned though. I used no hacks, not even hacked items, completely legit. Blizzard sucks. ----------------- "It's funny the way most people love death. Halo 2 rules!
Skill jmp from heroic to legendary is to big tho i feel. I spent a lot of time doin the original halo missions on single player legendary, a nice challenge on some of the levels, but by all means beatable
But I was playin legendary with another halo vet and they ****ted on us :/ we scoped in on another wave coming out of the drop ship and saw 8+ elites, cant w8 to do the game on heroic and give legendary a go __

Quote: And yes, if you feel like sifting through old blizzard news (it's in there somewhere, before the release of patch 1.10), 31 odd thousand Diablo II accounts (not CD-Keys) were banned on the same day for using a completely client side hack known as maphack
.
I played Diablo2 for two years, and I can say that this is true. I didnt' get banned, but used maphack for about a year. I remember over 100 thousand various accounts getting banned over the two years that I played.
This person probably got banned for duping items, or using some other hack. Which happened a lot since it was a free game online.
I would rather try Guild Wars than WoW. GuildWars looks very promising.

Having played all of the games mentioned here, I'll let you in on my opinion.
Half-Life 2 was released 8 hours ago. I played it constantly until I had to go to work. It's pretty damn amazing, and FUN as hell too. Definately reccomend it for people who likes fps. (And the release at 12:00 am WORKED!!)
Halo 2: Fun, a little on the short side (well, a lot on the short side) but added a bunch of new stuff, and expanding multiplayer is always good. In Halo2 vs HL2, they're not really in the same league of gaming to me, but I believe HL2 to be a clear winner for where to spend your gaming time and dollar.
Guild Wars: This has a lot going for it in the pvp area, and has a lot of very quick and very dirty fights. Also has some awesome server mechanics in it, you won't get separated from your friends by being on different servers. Has several new innovations to the slasher MMO, will be fun to keep an eye on it as it grows. Beta is quite fun.
WoW: This game actually has very little in it that's new and exciting. That being said, all the stuff they borrowed from other games is extremely polished, and in top form. There is never a dull moment, and its constantly fun. Does involve a bit of the ole xp grinding, but mostly you can just quest your way up, which is fun. Raids and epic mobs round out what looks to be a great multiplayer experience that will last several years. There is concensual pvp in most areas, unless you're on a pvp server which operates in much the same way Eve does to my understanding. If it's WoW vs. Guild Wars, I'd play WoW. You could play both, but you'll never be truly great in either one if you do. :D
So, there's my brief rundown of the impressions I got. This is all opinion obviously. Too many good games released all in the same month, so I'll be playing in this order: HL2, Eve, WoW, Halo 2, GW.
Eve is such an entirely different game from any of these that I'll be keeping it on my hard drive for a long time to come. I'm definately looking forward to Exodus, should be a blast. I need 72 hour days for gaming. :/
Whatever you decide to play out of this bunch, you won't be dissapointed, you'll have a good time. Enjoy!! |
