Hey all,
This is something of a release announcement (hence the forum - mods, this does belong here!) for a new feature we've added to EVE Metrics.
EVE Metrics now supports the new EVE mail API alongside the existing market order, wallet transaction/journal and other APIs. This means that you can get your EVE mails (no bodies till CCP gives us that in the API) in any browser on any mobile device or from work, home, you name it. We've also added an ATOM feed, so you can plug this right into your favourite RSS feed reader.
What does this mean? Well, it means you can have your EVE mails appear automatically on sites like iGoogle [pic] or in tools like Mozilla Thunderbird or Apple Mail [pic].
EVE Metrics already has over 800 API keys registered, with over 9000 API methods enabled. The vast majority of those keys are full keys, so you can be sure of your data's security. You can enable methods on a character-by-character basis, and they default to off, meaning EM only loads what you tell it to. Corporate security is enforced with EVE's own role and title system.
Getting your EVE mail online and in your favourite mail clients is only a few minutes away. Try it out today! (And yes, notifications will be making an appearance shortly)

So you are saying that there is no possible way that you or another site manager with the proper access can get at the stored full api keys and view the characters info as well as the rightful owner?

No; I'm saying that we're trusted enough for a heck of a lot of people and alliances to trust us with their data. There is of course no way of preventing what you've said, technically speaking. In reality we exercise strict data security over API keys and associated data.
I've rephrased my original post to make this a little clearer; my apologies if this seemed confusingly worded. -- Ix Forres EVE Application Developer EVE Metrics | accVIEW | I Tweet |

Edited by: Isaac Starstriker on 10/12/2009 22:47:05 Does it require the full API? I'm skiddish about giving out my partial api to just anyone.

The EVE mail API requires full API, yes. As I said above, we're trusted API handlers and routinely handle hundreds of full keys, and we've never had a security problem in over 2 years, so we're not 'just anyone' when it comes to this sort of thing!
Of course, if you're still nervous, then don't do it- better to be on the safe side with your keys. -- Ix Forres EVE Application Developer EVE Metrics | accVIEW | I Tweet |

Excellent stuff! Really hoping now that we can get the devs to make the api provide the full evemail body.

Indeed - one day, perhaps. It would be great to get tags and so on, too, but that doesn't look likely so far.
We also added skill training information to the site, so you can monitor training from out of game while away from your desktop. -- Ix Forres EVE Application Developer EVE Metrics | accVIEW | I Tweet |

Sounds cool...can't get to the site though. Error has occurred, etc, etc...etc. I haven't really been able to get on to the site for a few days (page loads and then some kind of error usually shows up). about 8/10 times I can't get to the site features beyond the front page loading. I am a frequent unloader to the site (market data), but I can't see a point where I'll ever actually get to use the site Cool feature though.

Shouldn't this be better placed in 'EVE Technology Lab'? 'My EVE' is to "Discuss the EVElopedia and share your EVE videos, guides, resources, songs, jokes and more!", and an API based player created tool to read EVE mails seems to be using a very broad defenition of "more".
And as for the application in itself, nice, but it's pretty true that the site is slow or just times out often, which is a shame.

Have you started a petition yet, calling for full functionality to be added to the evemail api? I much prefer using this sort of service to logging in 9 times and checking 9 lots of evemails. --- 34.4:1 mineral compression |
