Edited by: CCP Tenitigo on 12/12/2009 16:41:53 Thanks in part to your bug reports and feedback, we have identified and reproduced a client hang issue when attempting to start the Dominion client.
Issue: When starting the Eve client, the login screen will begin to flicker and/or eventually display a black screen. When this occurs, the client becomes non-responsive, forcing the client to be closed via Task Manager.
Cause: We have reason to believe this is caused by the sun being occluded by other objects in space. The issue itself also existed in Apocrypha, but disabling the option ôSun is occluded by shipsö in the settings menu would prevent the bug from occurring. However, this option is only available in the client once the user has logged into their account. As a result the sun on the login screen does not check for this setting when being rendered.
This issue will be resolved in a future client patch.
Workarounds:
There are a number of ways to use the current TQ client despite this bug being present.
Important Note: It is best to perform one step at a time to see if it resolves the issue. If the screen continues to flicker or goes to a black screen, continue to the next step in the list.
- Start Eve using the Safemode shortcut available in the Eve folder or Start Menu. This will force the client to startup using the lowest Shader Quality setting (Low).
- After starting the client, switch to windowed mode. The client can be switched between full screen and windowed by pressing Alt+Enter simultaneously.
- Disable power saving features using the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Mobile.
- Right click the Desktop and select ôGraphics Propertiesö from the right click menu. Alternatively you can also go to Windows Control Panel and select ôIntel GMA Driver for Mobileö
- Under the ôDisplay Settingsö tab select ôPower Optionsö
- Move the slider to ôDisable Power Savingsö
- Apply the changes
- Update your drivers to the latest version using http://www.intel.com/support/detect.htm

That intel driver scan doesn't work for Inspiron 1525.

Eathan, same message. Had to goto Toshiba's website, and guess what... drivers are up to date.
I have to do the stupid delete prefs.ini file thing to get in. Changed my skill training to a LONG one, logged out.
I'll keep checking back to see if it fixed, but it sucks to pay to train offline rather than actually be able to play the game.

Yep. I am able to log on, check mail and change skills. But I can't actually play. Undocking, market, more than a couple of convo's, ANY kind of a session change crashes my client. If I undock and crash... I can clear my cache and settings and log back in. But when I warp it crashes again. Insipron 1525 can't handle all the graphics on high and turning them down.... crashes the client.

No joy either. Driver is up to date. Can only log in if Shadows is on high. But can't play on that setting and if I change it in game the game freezes up.

I have tried all the above and more. splash displays, screen goes black like its going to load. sometimes i hear music, sometimes i dont, sometimes i get a mouse pointer, sometimes not. it all depends on how long the client would like to leave me in the black void before i get BSOD'd please help! never in the 3 (close to 4) years playing have i ever had this problem until dominion. hope that patch is on the priority asap list.

Guys, please make sure you are submitting bug reports. The faster they can see the common link, the faster they can fix it.

Exactly the same here. Running a Dell Inspiron 1525 and getting totaly black screen at log in.
I've managed to sort of get oung it by deleting the "prefs.ini" file then changing these one by one: turn shadows off (reboot client), turn occlusions off, (reboot client) rack the all three "high" spec options down to medium (reboot client) then rack them down to low.
Sometimes it works, but it's a pain in the bum when you're drunk :)

For those getting this message, I had the same issue. Had to go into the Device Manager and uninstall the custom driver from Dell (or what ever manufacture you have). Once I did that and rebooted, went back to the website. It then detected I needed a driver that was the latest. After installing and a reboot, got into eve with no problems. In this case, the customer driver provided from your vendor is outdated compared to the chip manufacturer.

I can't wait to get home and try that. Been trying to upload the Datadump for almost a week and I am having major issue. If this works I am going to hump your leg, then dance a jig, then get really drunk and stay logged in for 23 hours.
So you aren't getting 100% CPU'd out by undocking anymore?

Edited by: KangaWho on 20/12/2009 18:49:40 Demented, thanks for posting that, but it didn't work for me, Im not savvy enough to do it I guess, I deleted the original driver and removed the files then tried to install the generic driver but I aint got a clue which on it was meant to be so I guessed then had to System Restore when it didn't work.
Thanks for trying to help though, if it had worked I was fully committed to sending you all off my iskies (I'm only poor, but it's the thought that counts!)
What works for me is:
For the chap who couldn't find the file I was on about that you need to delete it is here:
C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings\Prefs.ini
Note that the second USER folder in capitals is the name of my PC, your's might be something like MyPC, or John's PC etc.
Delete the Prefs.ini file
Deselect the shadows option. The client will rebeoot.
When you're back in, put the High Quality things to Medium (not low, it'll crash) and it should be ok.
I've been struggling with this for a week now.

It won't ruin it. Drivers are free, and really only for the higher end stuff. You will still see your desktop and such, just won't be able to run movies or video games till you get them downloaded again. But the HARDWARE will still work to run the simple stuff like windows display and such. Things might appear a little "blocky", like you are running everything on Wondows 3.11 :)

It works :) It won't break it dude. Control Panel> CLASSIC VIEW> Device Manager> Remove the video drivers completely. Your resolution will shrink to the default screen rez.... you can still see the screen.... REBOOT the computer and go the the site above that dude listed. Let the Intel site give you the correct drivers and install... Your computer will reboot when it is done... AND IT TILL TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO BOOT BACK UP (it is applying the new drivers, this is normal) when it comes back up... Launch eve.... end of story.... feel free to send me a message in game to let me know you made it and if you have any questions. If there is a secure way to contact me I will give you my vent info or my phone number if you need any other help.

I had to delete the settings and cache every time I wanted to log on. When I touched my settings in game, when I undocked, when I warped, when I tried to jump gates, the system crashed because it shot the CPU usage to 100%.
The Dell Video drivers are OLDER than the Chipset, those drivers are almost 3 years old.
But here is the catch... they will not update with the intel drivers UNLESS THE DELL DRIVERS ARE COMPLETELY removed. Call your local computer shop, talk to your science teacher, call a hardware store, do a google search: Removing your drivers, as long as you have internet, is reverseable. I was livid for three weeks cause I could not log on. I even let one of my accounts expire. And although I don't believe that this patch was anything but half assed, CCP isn't going to fix a computer that isn't their problem. It's not their fault we all bought sub-standard Dell's...
You can do research and help yourself. You can do like me and accept the help of someone on this forum, or you can get a new computer. Long story short, there is nothing CCP can do for you.

Edited by: Ethan Blue on 21/12/2009 23:23:30 Confirming Demented Foe is my personal hero.
Work for 2 more people that I know of. The trick is that you have to completely remove the Dell drivers. the first 5 times I tried this I was scared I would have no picture once I deleted the drivers. This was not the case. To those still having issues, please contact your local computer store if you don't believe me... or just google it. Again, tank you to Demented Foe on behalf of those of us who this worked for. Really can't thank you enough (although I do plan on trying).
