Kestrel can be fast with a mwd , can crap missiles for great damage ( or rockets at close range ) , and has a good cargo so can do level 1 and most level 2 courier missions fast as well.

Rifters a nice ship, fast with mwd, good weaponry, ok cargo (better off with a probe for hauling tho)

main 2 frigs would b kestral or rifter depending on ur class and skills. Kestral for missiles

Sounds like we're talking standard frigates?
The Incursus, too, is a really nice all around ship. It makes a nice catcher, does a good amount of damage, and can be (gah!) fitted for mining if you so desire.
